Title: Piggyback Off Lost?
Dan Brown - September 6, 2005 01:23 PM (GMT)
Well there have been questions on this forum like when is channel five going to show ALIAS season 4 etc. And these are just and important questions but what I want to know is that doesn't any broadcaster know what kind of gold they have if they have ALIAS especially now.
Lost has opened the bridges one of the most highly rated shows on channel 4 and it had and still has more people watching that channel on that day at that time than any other channel..it is a ratings success.
But think about it channel five or whoever has the rights to this fantastic show if marketed and advertised in a very good campaign like channel 4's Lost (hell they had adverts at the cinema!) this could be a hit if you link just one thing the name JJ Abrams.
Think about it....the advertisment could be as follows...
'Watch the programme which started the career of the man who created the hit show LOST and is writing and directing the new Mission Impossible film. Watch his first hit show ALIAS which is as thrilling as LOST etc etc...'

I think Felicity was the first hit show - anyone ?
Saw something about Flextech ( they own Bravo, Living, etc ) possibly being taken over by other networks - ITV was mentioned. Might be good for Alias in the UK if that happens, with a larger budget for adverts ? :ponder:

Yep, Felicity was his first show :)
I think that it would have been a good idea for the distributers to sell Alias s4 and Lost together (as opposed to Lost and Desperate Housewives being sold together). That way the UK networks could have marketed them both as JJ shows and maybe capitalised on Jennifer Garner's high profile, and this might have given Alias a better chance in the UK. It's just a shame that now if people (like me) who don't have Bravo want to see Alias s4 they have to splash out around £40 on the boxset. Not that I'm bitter or anything :snooty:

Aww ! :D
Those boxsets seem to sell so well in the UK, it`s surprising that the show hasn`t been picked up to the extent it deserves.
Paula, would you have got the DVDs anyway ?

I`d complain if I had to wait months for the DVD while other people were enjoying the series on Bravo. ;)

I did know about Felicity, but was that a big of a hit as ALIAS, in my opinion ALIAS is the show which got JJ more publicity and more praise.

When S1 of Alias was originally shown on Channel4 it should have been promoted as much as Lost is now and put on in a decent primetime slot - at least 9pm. I think it's main downfull has always been that it was put on at 6pmish. Five had a better idea when they aired it at around 8pm but I don't think it helped that they aired S2 and didn't put S1 on before. It didn't help that they kept moving the timeslot and taking it off for weeks on end <_<.
If S1 of Alias was airing now I think that it would get treated a hell of a lot better especially off the backs of current hit ABC shows like Lost and Desperate Housewives.

I`d imagine it will do well in re-runs, when the show ends ( ), if it gets picked up by someone like Channel Five ; they picked up Buffy Season 1, I think. :)

I think you have to face it that Alias's chance in this country has gone. :tear: Its been on 4 different channels and for whatever reason hasn't really taken off, its a bit late in the day to try and get people into S4 on the back of Lost especially as Alias is a pretty complicated show to get into as it is. Add the fact that S5 is probably gonna be the last it just wouldn't make sense to spend any serious money on it.
Certainly if I was Bravo I'd put ' from the creator of Lost ' in my promos but sadly its just a little too late for Alias imo.

Channel 4 pretty much screwed Alias right from the off by putting it in a completely inappropriate time slot and cutting it to ribbons then going the other way and putting it on way too late, so Joe Public never got the chance to really get into it.

I got the S4 boxset for Christmas and there is a big sticker on the cover saying "from the creator of LOST". Also one of the ads for Mission Impossible 3 says "from the creator of LOST and Alias", so why can't channel 5 do something like that as well - sadly i gave up on waiting for channel 5 and got the boxset for S4 which of what i've seen is very good.
I think Alias is actually better than LOST, and it shouldn't have to be advertised like this.
Ems :)
