Hey guys, Quint here. We've been getting email after email demanding why we're not covering this huge revelation recently regarding SPIDER-MAN 3 and the villains old webhead will have to deal with. Well, there are a couple reasons...

Originally, about 4 weeks ago, the rumor was started saying the main villain in SPIDER-MAN 3 will be Chameleon (Thomas Hayden Church). We also received this letter from, I'm guessing, the same source (it was word for word the same as what was printed later that day by DV-H.com) as Development-Hell, who broke the story, but we didn't run it. We've reported our own rumors on SPIDER-MAN 3 and what our sources were telling us just doesn't jive with this information.
There are also other rumors that have been floating around since Topher Grace was announced as a villain claiming we were going to see him slip into a certain alien symbiotic costume. Even we here at AICN ran a rumor about this, but I'm really skeptical about this one.

Does anybody look at Topher Grace and see Venom? I know I sure don't. Sure, it could be possible that Sam Raimi would approach the character differently from the books, make him more of a mirror of Spider-Man, a kind of Bizarro Spider-Man. That would be true if Raimi hadn't done dozens of interviews stating that he doesn't like the character of Venom, preferring the old cache of villains. Could this have been a multi-year in the making slight of hand trick? I suppose so, but it just doesn't feel right.

I think there may be a possibility of Spidey appearing in the Black Suit in the film... and that could possibly be the source of all these Venom rumors, but even that I'm dubious of. I only give it any credit because there have been so many reports of Venom and various other "black material" being sighted around Sony's wardrobe department.

The more recent rumors come from Rich Johnson, who looked into the DV-H.com rumors of the Chameleon and found something that would be a big spoiler if it pans out. I'm betting it won't pan out and I'll tell you why.

The rumor says that BOTH Thomas Hayden Church and Topher Grace will be playing The Chameleon. The twist is that the shapeshifter has been this character warming up to Mary Jane on the sly as the affable Topher Grace. On the surface this sounds not only good, but pretty damn cool. However, wouldn't that make The Chameleon the main villain for Spider-Man 3? Isn't that a kind of weak follow-up to Doc Ock? And isn't The Chameleon a bad choice considering X-MEN's Mystique has been on screens doing the shapeshifting thing for almost 5 years now?

What doesn't make sense to me is that according to Rich Johnson's rumor this is supposed to be a big secret, yet when the casting of Grace was announced it was known he was going to play a villain. If this was supposed to be a big twist in the movie, why would they announce Topher Grace as a villain? Even Avi Arad confirmed his villain status at Comic-Con this year... when asked who the villains were going to be in Spidey 3 Arad answered, "Thomas Hayden Church and Topher Grace" to many "Awwwww"s from the audience. Doesn't make any sense to me.
This also doesn't jive with what I've been hearing from many people close to the production. From the most trusted sources I'm hearing that the villains will be Sandman and Electro. Sandman I'm pretty sure of. I trust in the source who said the second villain was Electro, too, although I've had many different sources who tell me Sandman is in and not so many on Electro.

It's also quite possible we'll be seeing an appearance from Green Goblin 2, but I'd doubt he'd pop up in a big way if there's already 2 confirmed villains, even with these rumors of a changed up Gobby costume and "surf-board-like glider" are to be believed. I'd hope Raimi would slowly build Harry as a character so we really enjoy seeing him on that glider in the 4th film. And for God's sakes change his mask!

Who knows where we'll fall? I bet Raimi and Arad are having a great time laughing at all the rumors flying about. Anybody who has listened to the commentaries on one of the 135,209 different editions of any of the EVIL DEAD movies knows that Raimi can be a bit of a sadist. Instead of him whipping the shit out of Bruce Campbell, he's watching the fan community squirm.

Am I right about the villains? Or am I dead wrong? Could Sony be going forward with Chameleon as the main villain? I honestly don't know for sure and I won't know until they make the official announcement. I like Sandman a lot and the recent appearance of Church on Jay Leno where he revealed he's bulking up for his role makes me think more and more of him wearing that tight black-striped green shirt. Not in a funny way, just sayin'...

Ultimately, we won't know jack until that pre-filming press conference at the end of the year where they plan on announcing the villains. If I hear anything solid in the mean time I'll be sure to pass it along to you good folks. All I know is there's something fishy about a lot of these rumors. What do you guys think of all this? Let me know in the talkbacks below.

Topher Grace - Venom
Thomas Hayden-Church - Sandman

There. I have done my predictions. So judging by all my other ones I will again be completely wrong. :tear:

Here we go again... More SPIDER-MAN 3 rumors...
Ahoy, squirts. Quint here with yet another spin around the rumor merry-go-round on the identity of the villains in SPIDER-MAN 3. I almost didn't run this because it's getting kinda boring. Since back in February of this year we've run the rumors of the villains in Spidey 3 being Venom, Sandman and one of the Goblins. I wrote a piece about a month ago gathering all the rumors in one place and applying a little logic to them (read that article here). This had mainly to do with the Goblin, Chameleon and Venom rumors.

I was hoping that'd quell the rumor mill for a while, but it's up and spinning again, playing a very familiar tune. My sources with-in Sony are sure the villains are Electro and Sandman, with Franco taking steps toward the glider. That jibes with Raimi's interest in classic characters. But now Freeze Dried Movies claims they have an anonymous source that says the villains are for sure Venom (Topher Grace), Sandman (Thomas Hayden Church) and Hobgoblin (James Franco), except this is the first time someone who has reported that Franco was playing Hobgoblin actually acknowledged that's a departure from the comics since Harry Osbourne became the Green Goblin again in the books, not Hobgoblin.

Spidey Villains Revealed
Kirsten Dunst has spilled a few beans about Spider-Man 3 at a recent press conference, finally confirming rumours that have been circulating the web ever since Doc Ock got his tentacles in a twist at the end of Spidey 2. "We have really great people as the villains in this film, Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace - Venom and Sandman," she told reporters. "Maybe I wasn't supposed to say that."

Pushed a little further, she admitted that Church, last seen in Sideways, is stuck with the unfortunate Sandman role. He can turn himself into sand at will, which is useful for getting through doors but makes for itchy bedsheets. Grace, meanwhile, is Venom, a kind of anti-Spidey with a lycra suit who is really a nasty alien in disguise.

Dunst Ditches Damsel Duty
Kirsten Dunst is shedding the wet t-shirt. Easy boys, we're referring to sad news that Spider-Man's favourite damsel-in-distress is exiting the franchise. "Unless they pay me an exorbitant amount of money, this will be my last one," she tells Teen Hollywood. "If there's more of a story to tell and [director] Sam Raimi is on board, and everyone is, then maybe. But this is what I am signed to do - three."

Although Raimi has made it public knowledge that he doesn't plan to direct a fourth Spider-Man film, those voracious Sony execs are keen to carry on the series. Of course no decisions will be made until Spider-Man 3 hits cinemas in May 2007

Lester Snared For Spidey
Star of BBC ONE's Hustle Adrian Lester is set for a turn in Spider-Man 3. What's On magazine recently featured an interview with the actor who revealed, "I'll be going straight from promoting Hustle to filming Spider-Man 3."

However, writer/director Sam Raimi is typically tight-lipped on the matter - even keeping his cast in the dark. "I haven't even had a script yet," explains Lester. "All I know is that I'm playing a research scientist who tries to cure the baddie of whatever badness he's got. I don't even know who the new baddie is!"

Much Ado About Venom & SPIDER-MAN 3...
Hey folks, Harry here - Seems that according to the following person, Topher is VENOM and will be in a very complicated outfit... But here's the thing just about all of this is countered by another report I received that wound up over at COMING SOON that swears up and down Topher is playing ELECTRO - and that the black costume Symbiote outfit is Peter's only in this film, but we get hints of something more coming. I love battling rumors, they're so much fun. Sony, Raimi and Avi are having a blast throwing out conflicting tales and I think placing these things around the web to confuse and tantalize us fans. Enjoy the latest round of gossip...
Marcus Howard Blog

3) It is impossible for spider-man and venom (both wearing the symbiote's) to go head to head?

I did not say that they were both symbiotes, i said that each character would be wearing the costume that was developed for them, i.e both wearing black in this sequence, which does not mean to say that Tobey's costume is a symbiote. I have said enough.

Marcus here, i got like a million e-mails and this site only went up today and the moment i mentioned Spider-man 3 i had to block the comments coming in since their were so many. So for the sake of it i thought i might just drop you little tid bits involving Mr Grace, since im w**king for him as Costume Assistance, which is a job that does not involve me communicating with him believe it or not. Im not allowed to say too much, but i doubt this would do any harm if i was to tell you about my job in more detail and about the 'Venom' costume which james is w**king on.

We are w**king on tobey's black 'symbiote' costume, which is refered to as 'SYMBIOTE#01' because the second version will be worn by Mr Grace. The second version is more advance and we are considering to use motion capture technology, i believe that this would accompany the CGI that was done in the first spider-man movie as i have been told. However you should not expect Venom to be wearing a costume as such because their isn't any, we are considering that he would be wearing a green suit, so that with the CG the 'SYMBIOTE#02' design can be overlayed on him. Sony has spent billions apparently over the years on the whole franchise, but with new developing technology such as pixar's renderman, the job is getting easily done. The fight scenes between tobey and mr grace are also something which we (well them) are looking at, the script is complete and their will be a huge fight which involves tobey getting his portion of the suit (SYMBIOTE#01) completely weakened by the more stronger suit worn by mr grace (SYMBIOTE #02).

Their are about 60 more people w**king as costume assistance's and ideas are being contributed in all the time, as they are also improving, however these ideas do not effect the script as thats carved in stone, but they only improve it visually. I've said enough, so just dont start passing this info around because the last thing i want is to be thrown out of something big. And remember this could all change. That's all i could tell you...right now but keep checking back for the plastic cast results from mr grace.

According to an article in the New Haven Register the Cheshire Marching “Ram” Band will be teaming up with none other than Spiderman himself! That’s right, it seems that there is a marching band sequence on fifth avenue involved in Spidey 3 . It seems that the band originally scheduled to appear in the sequence dropped out at the last minute and Sam Raimi needed a band ASAP and turned none other than the award winning marching band of a small town in Cheshire. Pretty cool news, eh?

The Band will be recorded in a studio and the music will be dubbed over the footage shot on location. No word yet on any story details but I hope to milk them out of my significant other’s siblings. Oh but the coolest news about it all? Seems the band will be marching to the beat of the Spiderman theme song! More on this as it breaks!
