Thud /thud/ n. 1. a low dull sounds like that of a blow or something that does not resound. 2. the sound a body makes when it falls. 3. the title of the new novel from bestselling author Terry Pratchett

It started out as a perfect day -- the sun was shining, the birds were singing, and Commander Sam Vimes of the City Watch shaved himself without a single nick. And then he went to w**k.

THUD!

Suddenly, Vimes is in the thick of looming disaster -- he's got an unsolved murder to crack, an impending war born of age-old animosity to avert, a new recruit he'd really rather not hire, not to mention a pesky government inspector asking all the wrong questions.

Right there with you Karen. But as it's from an American site, I can't be sure about the release date.

Of course Amazon will have it wherever it's released :D

Why do the Yanks get an English authors new book almost 3 weeks before we do?

That's just sick and bizarre. :o

Synopsis
Koom Valley? That was where the trolls ambushed the dwarfs, or the trolls ambushed the dwarfs. It was far away. It was a long time ago. But if he doesn't solve the murder of just one dwarf, Commander Sam Vimes of Ankh-Morpork City Watch is going to see it fought again, right outside his office. With his beloved Watch crumbling around him and war-drums sounding, he must unravel every clue, outwit every assassin and brave any darkness to find the solution. And darkness is following him. Oh...and at six o'clock every day, without fall, with no excuses, he must go home to read 'Where's My Cow?', with all the right farmyard noises, to his little boy. There are some things you have to do.

Synopsis from the UK Amazon - very different to the other one.... :ponder:

What? An unsolved murder? Age old animosity? Sounds identical to me, just with different wording.

Yay, the troll/dwarf war has begun.

I`m guessing that`s the US version which Jamie posted - they`re very different to our covers. Ours are better, of course. :snooty: Just looked at the UK Version and that`s a whole new style, too.
