Title: Did You See It Coming? Or Were You
Description: that oblivious until it was in your face
Maria - August 18, 2005 03:10 PM (GMT)
I have asked this on the Buffy Board so thought I would ask here as well as we don't seem to have many posters on here :(
Have you ever seen something coming on Angel that you knew was going to happen?
For me it would be Angel getting paired off with Cordie. It just seemed like, hey here's two attractive people that have yet to get it on. Let's pair them up!
Saying that, in contrasty I didn't see Wesley and Lilah getting together!

Ditto, saw that one coming :)
laughitupfuzzball - August 18, 2005 03:51 PM (GMT)
Darla getting pregnant  certainly didn't see that coming
and Connor's return as an adolescent :o
endgame - August 18, 2005 03:55 PM (GMT)
Wolfram & Hart bringing Darla back at the end of season 1 was a shocker, then finding out in season 2 that they brought her back as a human :o . Didn't see that coming at all.
Krazy - August 18, 2005 04:17 PM (GMT)
I'm with Maria and Endgame, i think Cordy and Angel's relationship was more a when then a if. I mean 2 attractive people w**king together day and night, seeing as this is a show, they were bound to put them together. <_<
^^^That word w**king just doesn't look write there.
But the writers of Angel did surprise me alot, so i'm glad to saw it was worth watching knowing it wasn't predictable.
prophecy girl - August 19, 2005 09:51 AM (GMT)
i thought wes and fred ... never saw fred and gunn
angel and cordie was kinda obvious
darla coming back was a surprise .... her being human too ......... but knowing the show, there was no way she was gonna stay that way (but dru being the one was  )
the return of angelus was expected but it took a little while
connor return <_<
Maria - August 19, 2005 12:33 PM (GMT)
I didn't see the end of S4 coming when Skip tells everyone the past few years were planned. I thought that was pretty much a cop out TBH!
I didn't see any of the Darla situation coming but when Darla arrived pregnet, I did know that she would stop actig frail and turn on the guys. I guess she could call it hormones. I didn't think she would stake herself though :fear:
Overal, I guess Angel is (was) much more unpredictable than Buffy?

i'm not certain about the cop-out, I do recall just thinking 'how did you know?' 'how did they plan all that stuff'

A few times I was fooled and a few times it was predictable...
Didn't see Darla coming back.
prophecy girl - August 20, 2005 06:06 PM (GMT)
lylah being killed but i thought it was going to be angel ......... totally wrong

er ok I think? sk( I loved one of the surprises in S5 but I will not go into it here. Try and remain spoiler free if you are one of the poor souls waiting for Ch5)

I agreed with your original sentiments Laura but maybe it is better to say nothing. sk
prophecy girl - August 21, 2005 08:05 PM (GMT)
well maybe the thread should be in the angel season five files
Laura - August 21, 2005 08:12 PM (GMT)
I think it's fine where it is, as long as appropriate spoiler warning are used :ponder:
prophecy girl - August 21, 2005 08:30 PM (GMT)
holtz killing himself (well ok justine helped but still)
endgame - August 21, 2005 08:35 PM (GMT)
Doyle's death, didn't see that one coming at all :o :tear:
prophecy girl - August 23, 2005 10:34 AM (GMT)
wesley coming back and then wesley turning to be a fantastic guy (took a little while but that was a fantastic "journey")

 I agree with that!
If you compare Buffy S3's Wesley to Angel S3 there is a BIG difference!
Mehitabel - August 26, 2005 03:42 PM (GMT)
Have we had Cordelia going blond, and shortly after...useless?
prophecy girl - August 27, 2005 02:35 PM (GMT)
that was a blond wig :lmao: ... ok she did have a lot of different hair style in 4 seasons (she kinda comment about it when she came back from wherever she was without her memory)

Hmm- no excuse in my opinion... by coincidence I watched The Prodigal last night- having retrieved many many boxes of Buffy and Angelness from my oldest friend: She had them for the last couple of months of her pregnancy, the baby is heading for her half birthday: patient or what?
Point is, ewhen Cordelia wore a tacky wig disguise in that episode, I think the message was clear: she can't carry blonde without comedy- whuch was better when it was deliberate than accidental...
Darris - October 19, 2005 12:52 AM (GMT)
I agree with endgame - Doyle's death was a complete shock, killing of such a major player in a pilot season, and slap bang in the middle of it too. I did know Wesley would be joining the cast of Angel but i never thought it would be as a replacement.
I also sighed when Skip revealed the past few years was all planned. Was that the best explination for Charisma to be absent during her maternity leave?
prophecy girl - October 19, 2005 08:54 AM (GMT)
the writers were probably running of good idea .... come on 9 months to think about it and we end up with skip turning into a bad guy
gunn problems with angel reappearing without warning in "that old gang of mine"

Too right! Utterly grim in its feebleness, unfortunate in its consequences for the rest of the series- can you begin to imagine how bad the rejected options might have been, if that was the winner?
I mean, with the trouble her parents were in with the IRS, couldn't they have found an excuse to bang Cordy up in jail for something?
jamiearmour - October 19, 2005 03:19 PM (GMT)
The arrival of a certain new cast member in S5 (No spoilers, no names)
I saw it coming. Wish to the Gods I hadn't, but it was inevitable  :tear:

>penny drops<
it was just announced wasn't it - like it was a good thing :ermm:
jamiearmour - October 19, 2005 03:34 PM (GMT)
I didn't read the announcements Nick. I always tried to stay spoiler free when it came to Angel. It used to be so much fun, just seeing the story unfold, instead of sitting waiting for the events you've read about to happen.
Nick - October 19, 2005 04:07 PM (GMT)
I was spoiled by a Sky trailer, I think it would have been impossible for me to stay spoiler free
prophecy girl - October 20, 2005 09:44 AM (GMT)
faith reappereance ... i would have thought the writers would have make a mention of her trial but it was a nice idea to have angel visiting faith at the end of the first episode of season two.
Mehitabel - October 20, 2005 10:24 AM (GMT)
A mildly annoying aspect of brilliant surprise returns of unexpected characters would have to be the 'Guest Starring X' over the opening credits. Tends to undermine the writer's good works- like the appearances of Faith and Willow in series 4...
prophecy girl - October 21, 2005 08:44 AM (GMT)
they only did once and it was for giles in buffy
probably due to the lack of deal on their contract or too much last minutes idea from the writer in season four :ponder:
TV Crazy - October 28, 2005 05:34 PM (GMT)
I didn't expect Doyle to die, that was probably the biggest one for me as well as the resurrection of Darla and the whole Connor storyline. I also didn't expect S5 to end like it did.
I did expect that at some point Angel would become Angelus again, and in S2 i expected Angel would get back with Cordy, Wesley and Gunn, but i didn't think he would w**k for them.
Ems :)
prophecy girl - October 29, 2005 02:57 PM (GMT)
i didn't expect wesley and lylah ... more like lylah and angel (well she was kinda attracted as seen in season three :naughty: )
Aud - October 30, 2005 12:31 PM (GMT)
i expected Connor to grow up real quick cos I didnt think for one minuite they would have a baby hanging around.
Also him hating his dad
couple of things in season 5 but again spoilers wont discuss
prophecy girl - October 30, 2005 06:18 PM (GMT)
i was expecting holtz death but definitly not like that

They possibly have the best line in the shows history. The one about I wasn't thinking about you while you were here. In general the whole idea was a brilliant conceit. sk
