Whoa, these past few weeks have brought some news about big box sets, but this one takes the cake. Fox has announced plans to release the complete run of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in a 40 disc limited-edition box set releasing on November 15 (the same day as the complete Friends set).

You'll get the previously released 7 seasons of Buffy (39 discs), plus a special bonus disc containing a brand new documentary featuring Joss Whedon. Each box will be individually numbered, and will contain a signed letter from Joss Whedon, and a comprehensive book filled with episode listings and memorable Buffy quotes. This will set you back a suggested price of $199.98 ($349.98 CAN).

Annoyed by this new set because you already have the seven seasons? Here's a quick suggestion; dump your current sets on eBay right now. Amazon.com is selling all 7 seasons in a package for a suggested price of $399.86, and their price of $231.01 (big savings). When this set hits stores it'll likely go for $140, so if you could get $120-$150 for the sets on eBay then you'll be laughing when you pick up this special boxed set. If you've never sold on eBay then go into a local DVD store that deals in used DVDs and see how much they'll give you for all 7 seasons.

my my, all that just for one added "brand new documentary featuring joss whedon" :ponder:

how naive do they think we are?

They don't think people are naive, they think they're stupid and I'm not sure I'd disagree with them.

And by people I mean fans as a whole not anyone individually.

Grrr.

I remember that after the first box set sold out there were some people on the beeb board considering paying horribly high prices on ebay, and gnarled voices of wisdom saying not to, as Buffy would be in a box as soon as, but I didn't think it would be so soon...

This is evil. It is fleecing the young (who haven't yet worked how these things w**k- I let myself be taken in with these sort of things (limited edition records and the like when I was young, this isn't a slagging off thing), and the frankly mentally illl, who will buy anything. The buggers.

i suppose a limited "collector" box set has an effect on people :ponder:

If you're like me and only ahve half the seasons on DVD and half still on Video (remember those?) it may be worth getting the box set of all seven seasons but I would never get the collectors just for one more disk!

A good point for those half comleted collectors is that if a new set comes out then the previous seven seasons will be cheaper!!!!!

i think they released some "budget" box set (around £20)

for more info

That's a R1 release so you would have to have a multi-region DVD player for the disks to w**k :)

I got the original Collectors edition boxset last year, because i didn't have any of the seasons on DVD and it was cheaper that way than to pay for all eps together than to buy seasons separately. I did have the eps i had taped on video, but with the number of times i was watching them, the videos wouldn't last. I think these all in one boxsets are only worth getting, if you don't have any seasons on DVD already. If you have them all on DVD anyway whats the point?

Ems :)
