We've gotten word from sources on the contents of the 2-disc DVD set (tentative street date 10/18), which we now expect to include anamorphic widescreen video, Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, audio commentary with director Christopher Nolan and co-writer David Goyer, 10 behind-the-scenes featurettes (including The Journey Begins, Genesis of the Bat, Path to Discovery, Shaping Mind and Body, Gotham City Rises, Cape and Cowl, The Tumbler, Saving Gotham City, Reflections on Writing and Digital Batman), the film's teaser and theatrical trailers and at least a few Easter eggs. Most of this information appears to be confirmed by a quick search of the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) website. The BBFC reviews film and DVD content in advance of release and issues ratings (much like the MPAA does in the U.S. for theatrical films).

Warner's finally gone and done it. They've officially announced the DVD release of Batman Begins for 10/18, as we've been expecting. You'll be able to buy a single-disc regular edition (SRP $28.98) and a 2-disc Deluxe Edition (SRP $30.97). Each will include the film in anamorphic widescreen video (2.40:1), with English and French Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. We believe there will be a full frame version of the regular edition as well.

We don't have all the details yet, but we do know that the 2-disc Batman Begins: Deluxe Edition will feature 8 documentaries (including Genesis of the Bat: Batman Incarnations from the Mid-1980s to the Present, The Journey Begins: Creative Concepts, Story Development and Casting, Shaping Mind and Body: Fighting Style, Gotham City Rises: Production Design, Cape and Cowl: The New Batsuit, The Tumbler: The New Batmobile, Path to Discovery: Filming in Iceland and Saving Gotham City: The Monorail Chase Sequence), several Confidential Files featurettes (broken into Characters and Weaponry), an interactive Inner Demons comic book, theatrical trailers, a photo gallery, Easter eggs and DVD-ROM features (including a Batman Begins "mobile game demo"). The set will also include an exclusive 72-page comic book containing 3 reprinted issues/stories that influenced the film (including Detective Comics #37, Batman: The Man Who Falls and Batman: The Long Halloween). There's no word yet on possible audio commentary, and additional extras are likely TBA.

Here's a look at the cover art for both editions. Each is available for preorder now at Amazon.com (just click on the cover art)...

Blimey, do you live under a rock or something?

If you know nothing about Batman, Batman Begins is quite a good place to start. Its all about his origins, and it actually does it well (pretty much unheard of for a Batman movie). Forget about the George Clooney movie, as its just awful, and the Val Kilmer one isn't much better.

I wanted to see it again at the cinema, was supposed to be going on July 7th but couldn't, for obvious reasons, and never had the chance again.

So I can't wait for the dvd. I'll be preordering it tonight

Incidentally, according to CD-wow the region 2 version is due on 21st October :)

Preordered the region 2 version last night. Hope it's got the same or better extras otherwise I might have to review that decision :ponder:

HMV are going to be selling the dvd with an exclusive 3D slipcase and mini graphic novel. I'm guessing this is the same as the comic book mentioned above, that comes with the r1 deluxe edition :ermm:

willowroolz - October 21, 2005 08:14 AM (GMT)
I love the way the extras are presented on the dvd - like an interactive comic book

Only £14.99 in Silverscreen.
However, I like the fancy case and extras with the HMV copy.
I also got a £40 voucher for there recently so will be snapping up Bats and Magnum P.I. series one. Woo Hoo!

Dan Brown - October 22, 2005 03:24 PM (GMT)
Is the comic book and special sleeve you get with it in HMV worth the extra £3?

Then you should be getting Bats for £12.99 (reduced price if you spend over £30 in HMV ;) )

The graphic novel is identical to the region 1 version :)
