Title: The West Wing On C4 No More

Season five of the American TV drama The West Wing has gone straight to DVD after a run on E4, Channel 4’s digital channel. Season six will then simply go on the channel’s new More4 network after its autumn start-up, so neither series will be aired on Channel 4 itself. It’s the beginning of the end for those great US dramas, like Six Feet Under and The Sopranos. I hope the money saved on buying them is put into equally well-made and long-running, home-grown series.

Does the world need yet another entertainment channel?

No wonder any of these shows can't build an audience if you can't tell from one season to the next if, where or when they will be shown.

I hate Channel 4, they keep doing things like this. I'm totally reliant on them to show the final three seasons of NYPD Blue and there's still no sign of them. And they never had any clue how to schedule The West Wing or any of their cult shows

I think it's best for me not to write down my thoughts on this atm since it's a family board

I used to watch it regularly, until C4 decided to move it around the schedules and hide it in the graveyard slot.

Can anyone tell me what the point of Channel 4 is these days? I never watch it anymore. Ten years ago, it was probably the best channel. Now, its on a par with ITV.

If you take out all the bought in American shows then your not left with much are you ? Shameless, Peep Show .... not much else I can think of.

Um... Countdown, 15to1

Channel 4 can keep doing this until the cows come home for all I care. I love The West Wing but I can honestly say I don't think I've ever watched an episode on C4.

Terrestrial Channels pushing their shows onto satellite/cable is only having the affect of pushing yet more people into downloading.

I'm still waiting for the American networks to hit upon the idea of streaming their shows across the net. As soon as that happens British networks are screwed on the drama front.

OK I'm now calm enough that my post will not be 100% swear words <_<.
I hate C4, I really really do. I'm worried about getting into Lost when it airs next week because if I like it, C4 will screw me over.
What did they expect to happen to TWW's ratings with their atrocious scheduling of the show. I can't really remember much about S1's scheduling but S2 was on Sunday at 9pm which was perfect imo. It was S3 when C4 screwed up. Saturday at 8pm, unsurprisingly the show didn't fair well there. So they took it off air for about a month or two iirc, then dumped it at 11pm on a weekday, with no advertising to tell fans what had happened to it. I had some hope when they brought S4 back at an hour when it was still daylight outside but oh no .
First Angel, then Alias, then Nip/Tuck and now TWW. As Toby once said "I have hatred in my heart", that's how I feel towards C4 *spit*.

Outta Sight - August 3, 2005 06:56 PM (GMT)
Channel 4 used to lead the way in American imports and had a cracking run with Friends/Frasier/Will & Grace etc but in recent years they've seemed to lean towards the whole Wife Swap/How to sell your house ad nauseum type shows which I guess has gained a good audience for them from a certain type of demographic group :ph43r: I guess they chose to stick with these since they brought in the ratings and therefore guaranteed them the revenue as well

As a result the US imports fell by the wayside and those of us too impatient to wait for them to show at some ungodly hour, went out and either got ourselves digital/cable tv or started to download them

I'm hoping, with the new USDs they've bought recently, they're going to get back to a more rounded schedule of shows  but I worry that they just won't get the audience on C4 due to their already establised viewer base and the few of us who do tune in will be disappointed when they decide that "How to do up your house in 24 hours and sell it at a hugely inflated Price" is better value to them than the likes of Lost et al :(

Channel 4 :p I think it all started back in the olden days when they hid the superb Homicide : Life on the Street at some ridiculous hour. <_<

:o   I really enjoyed the last season on channel 4 too <_<

Laura, I'm a bit worried about Lost too :ermm: I really hope they don't mess that up as well.

I can't remember the scheduling of the first season either, but that's the only season I've watched.

S2, as you say, was Sunday at 9.00 which was directly opposite 24 on BBC2! Why they'd put something in direct competition with one of the most hyped shows around I'll never know  I watched 24 instead and never got into it again because of the crap scheduling.

I remember it being on just before 24 :ermm:. I remember watching TWW then switching channels for 24.

They were trailing the final season of SFU last night as being shown only on E4.
