Ok I didn't enjoy this as much as the others it was a little more slow paced other than towards the end.

Julian frelling Sands, he is so cr*p, I didn't realise he was going to be in it but when he started talking I instantly recognised his stilted speach :fear: shame it could have been a strong character.

Best bits, Vala eating the apple & then putting it back in the bowl when the priest walked back in

Vala also accusing the priest of torture by rhetoric "we won't crack - well I will "

Why couldn't he have just told them where the device was for goodness sake  it was only round the corner and hardly well hidden.

Loved Mitchell bringing the Ori pilgrim back to reality with his grandma stories  again Ben was sparkling even though he wasn't around much.

Lots of tension as this time they both had to face the fire and Mitchell finally getting his wish to unplug the device & throw it through a stargate - doesn't matter which one, such abandon

RDA was totally cringeworthy what was the point of those scenes

Setting up tension between the Jaffa and Earth with their new leader Gerak. I really like Landry though, good fighting talk - bring them on. Looks like their plates are going to be full.

I like the idea of the Ori, frightening bunch but their acting could have been a little better :ermm:

The sets looked fabulous though :)

I hope this is going to set us up for some great episodes to come :)

I thought it was OK. I wasn't very taken with the Ori last week, but this episode gave them a good backstory, and made them seem quite sinister (although the costumes look a bit silly).

The new characters seemed to fit in more this week. I suppose it takes a while to get use to them. Vala grew on me, as did Landry. The new Doc seems good too. Wasn't that taken with Gerak though. I think they should lay off Jaffa stories for a while. They've had a lot of exposure recently. If they're not careful, they'll become as dull as the klingons.

Overall, I thought it set up the new series quite well. I'd had my doubts before, but it looks like its all coming together.

I wonder if the Ori are in the Pegasus galaxy yet? An Ori/Wraith showdown could be quite cool.

I thought that he destroyed the device in the stargate backwash, so it didn't really matter where the gate went.

I'm sure if they were in the Pegasus galaxy already we'd have heard about them by now. As good as a Ori/Wraith showdown might be, it'll never happen, it's Star Trek's Borg Vs The Dominion thing all over again

I loved this episode. So far, over the three episodes things have got gradually better. I wasn't too keen on the first one, Avalon II was better and this one looks to have set up the rest of the season perfectly.

Agree on the point regarding Gerek, sorry but again, the Goa'uld/Jaffa should both have been pensioned off at the end of season 8 IMO. It's not even like the Jaffa have been particularly interesting in the past, so why give them more focus ??

Agree with the comments about RDA as well, what was the point ?? If they've contracted him for a specific number of appearances then surely you'd make them memorable. This one was completely wasted. By the time he eventually appeared I'd forgotten he was even going to pop up.

Julian Sands I thought was ok. I took his emotionless performance to be deliberately calculated. Both he, and the Ori in general came across as being particularly sinister.

Given that the Ori are this season's big story I'm looking forward to seeing this one play out. Over the past few years it's all been about either the Ancients, the Replicators or the Goa'uld. Nice to see them eventually shake of that old dogma at least for a while. I like the 'crusade' theme as well. As Mitchell pointed out it's not going to be enough to stop the Ori alone, but rather the message as well. It's a fascinating subject matter. Can't wait for more

:ph43r: I just hate Julian Sands, he is the same in every film, his monotone voice is haunting me again
:frusty:

maybe he will come to a violent end :shifty:

Can't remember seeing him in anything recently so he's not trying my patience yet

Just finished watching this.

Very good it was too.

Though..... Did anyone else notice the similarities between the Ori and the Pah Wraiths from DS9? Was it really just me? The whole fiery posession and glowing red eye thing was a direct rip off IMO. But hey, if you're gonna rip something off, it may as well be one of the best sci fi shows ever

As for RDA, well, his scenes just screamed "contractual obligation" to me. The writers had to come up with some way to use him, a pity they chose such a half arsed way of doing it.

:ponder: now you mention it there are quite a few similarities.

I'm going to have to rewatch it whilst ignoring my urges to smack Julian Sands

Yeah, I can see what you mean. Mind you, the first thing "Do they really need another villain who can possesses people and make there eyes glow and their voices go funny?".

jamiearmour - August 5, 2005 09:23 AM (GMT)
Many may see it as a comment on religious zealots as well.

Overall, I'm enjoying this storyline. It's well thought out and well constructed.

The schizm between the Jaffa nation and Earth. The new enemy. All bodes well for the future of the second best current sci fi show, (BG just pips it at the post I think)

Though I am left to wonder, why they weren't mentioned by the Ancients. You know, a little warning, or even mention about their existence could have been helpfull

I'm not convinced that the Ancients concealment of the Ori was flawed. If anything it plays to Human nature. Had the ancients given notice of the Ori's existance the chances are Humans would have set off in pursuit of finding them.

We're not really that stupid a race are we? :ponder:

Oh wait, yeah, we are. :stoopid: :stoopid:

I agree with most of the comments already posted. Thought it was very slow until the last few minutes.

Daniel and Vala are still both great fun.

I knew RDA was going to be in this ep, so i was looking forward to it, but i was so disappointed, i mean what was the point of him being there, he wasn't relevant to the storyline and flying with Mitchell - why bother? Although he still was fun in the scene with Daniel saying he was scared and Jack replying "I'm hungry" and with Mitchell the whole thing about Teal'c counting. It was fun but not up to Jack's usual standards seemed like a quick scene they wrote in 5 or 10mins to tag onto the end. If this is the last ep he is in this season, it isn't very memorable, so hopefully if he's in S9 more, he'll get a better storyline or have a relevant part to play cos i miss my fave character, and this ep didn't make it any better, made it worse, cos it seemed like Jack had changed.

Anyway, i'm a little clearer on what or who the Ori are now , although i was completely confused during the first half. You all keep mentioning Julian Sands, which character did he play, was he the guy that was like town leader and became a Prior at the end? If so then i agree with what you have said, can't stand him.

I also really liked Vala and the apple, along with Mitchell understanding that prior cos of something his grandma told him.

Also i share the same concern as Daniel, i doubt the ancients will interfere if and when the Ori come to preach on earth.

Wasn't hugely impressed with this ep, but everyone i talk to suggests it gets a lot better. I can't believe i'm saying this, but i like Atlantis better at the moment.

Ems :)
