Title: Marsters Comes to Smallville

Outta Sight - July 23, 2005 09:32 PM (GMT)
Just read that James Marsters might be starring in season 5 as a baddie  but subsequent reports won't confirm but say that Dean Cain may make an appearance as well

jamiearmour - July 23, 2005 10:51 PM (GMT)
The phrase "Bad to worse" doesn't spring to mind at all with those casting rumours   :lmao:

Jamie you not a fan of James? :o
If it's true i'm ecstatic. :p

jamiearmour - July 24, 2005 06:29 PM (GMT)
James I'm sure is a nice guy. But I will forever associate him with the character of Spike. The most annoying individual (apart from Dawn) that ever graced the screen with Buffy.

As for Dean Cain? well, as eye candy goes, he's OK, but he can't act to save his life. (except for the movie "The Broken Hearts Club" the script of which is so perfect even he couldn't f**k it up)

But then again, eye candy has always been more important than acting ability in the Smallville casting room hasn't it? (And don't we just love the show for it  )

prophecy girl - July 24, 2005 07:23 PM (GMT)
are the writers running out of idea that they to bring special guest to play big bad? :ponder:

Meiowwww PG :guns:

Jamie at least we can agree that SPike was a very annoying character. :lmao:

I think JM would be a good big bad(Again).

laughitupfuzzball - July 25, 2005 08:43 AM (GMT)
I liked James in Cool Money this year, he proves he can do different roles without left over Spike traits, I may even watch his eps :)

But Alex, if you start watching it it'll get cancelled :fear:

Ah, now I see what you're up to :p

Personally, I think James Marsters appearing would be dreadful. It would be a shameless ratings grabbing exercise, which would undoubtedly get more people watching (even if it's for the wrong reason), but he brings way too much baggage with him as far as I'm concerned.

A small cameo for Cain would be fine, so long as it was small

I hope these just stay as rumours. The set up for season 5 in Commencement was too good for them to mess it up (but then how many times have I said that about cliffhangers on other shows only to see them wasted <_< ).

Psycho Jack - July 25, 2005 12:42 PM (GMT)
Well, it looks like it's confirmed, James Marsters will be in Season 5 of Smallville.

Marsters is joining the cast of "Smallville" next season as professor Milton Fine, whom comic book geeks know as Brainiac, one of Superman's greatest foes. He has committed to a number of episodes, according to the accompanying press release.

Though I wonder if they'll put him in green make up

Excellent news, sorry but I like JM

Add Dean Cain into the mix also and I'll be in heaven, can't have to much eye candy on the TV  I need to get out more :lmao:

He needs all the improvement he can get :lmao:

I wonder if it was Brainiac that crawled out of the ship at the end of Comencement :ponder:

I would prefer it to be the Eradicator though. That would fit in perfectly storywise, with what they've built up so far.

The Eradicator, for those who don't know the Superman mythos, is a sentient computer program that is sent to follow Kal-El to maintain the Kryptonian way of life. This usually takes the form of murderous rampages killing any humans who are having a bad effect on Kal, i.e. teaching him to be emotional and all the nasty things like that

Seems like the kind of thing that Jor-El would send to Earth don't it?

MINOR SEASON 5 SPOILERS

JAMES MARSTERS VISITS “SMALLVILLE” AS THE EVIL BRAINIAC

Burbank, CA July 22, 2005

James Marsters sinks his teeth into another juicy role for The WB when he joins the cast of SMALLVILLE for multiple episodes. Marsters will portray Brainiac, a classic DC Comics villain and one of the Man-of-Steel's most formidable enemies.

Marsters plays college professor Milton Fine, alter ego of the uber-villain Brainiac. Possessed of a vast, superior knowledge limited only by his hubris and emotions, Brainiac comes to earth armed with a secret about Clark's biological family and the truth about Krypton's demise. Brainiac's presence in Smallville will have a devastating effect on Clark and Lex's already deteriorating friendship.

Marsters first appeared on The WB in the critically acclaimed hit series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” as Spike, the vampire who first tries to kill Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar), but ultimately falls in love with her. After five seasons on the show and Spike's untimely demise, Marsters' character was reborn as a ghost on the series spin-off Angel starring David Boreanaz.

Marsters began his professional career in the theater, performing in stage productions including “The Tempest” and “Red Noses” at Chicago's renowned Goodman Theatre. In addition, Marsters revisited the stage in Los Angeles with a starring role in an original play produced by Noah Wyle, titled “The Why.” Additional television roles include a guest appearance on “Northern Exposure” and the series “Strange Frequency” for VH1, as well as on Gene Roddenberry's “Kev Trek.”

Brainiac is the latest DC Comics character to appear in SMALLVILLE. The Flash, Mxyzptlk and Perry White have all made appearances during the series run. Last season, Lois Lane (Erica Durance) joined the cast.

Reinterpreting the Superman mythology from its roots, “Smallville” was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (“Shanghai Noon,” “Spiderman 2”), based on the DC Comics characters. Gough and Millar serve as executive producers, along with Greg Beeman, Ken Horton, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins and Joe Davola. The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions, Millar/Gough Ink and Warner Bros. Television Production Inc. SUPERMAN was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster.
