Title: BBC Message Board II
Hovis - June 11, 2004 05:29 PM (GMT)
In case my last post on the Beeb board goes, here's a copy.
I'm posting here under my 'real name' as it seems Hovis has been placed in pre-mod. There was no indication on the email I received from the mods, but they are taking so long to appear on the board, that's the only explanation. This is going to be my final post on the Beeb boards, as a) I feel I've been treated badly by the mods and B) I can't stomach Carl any more. Rest assured, that Hovis will be alive and kicking elsewhere.
I had this post rejected earlier. I’m not happy about it because other people have posted messages that are far stronger that have been left intact. If it means I get banned, then I get banned. Its unfair that certain people are allowed to say whatever they like and attack and insult whoever they like, but when they get a response, the response is pulled. A certain select few are exempt from the ‘golden rules’, it seems.
If you don’t like it Carl, complain again, but at least have the balls to tell me you’ve done it, ok?
*****
“Hovy baby?” Please Carl, Hovis or Andrew will do.
I was going to respond to these and other posts that you’ve made, but I can’t be bothered. Your playground taunts and childish responses are going too far. You’ve insulted me, insulted Angel and insulted the intelligence of everyone else on this board that has the temerity to suggest that there may be viewpoints different to yours that are just as valid.
You’ve set yourself up as a Spartacus figure, now a noble hero. What next, the Second Coming? The only noble hero you resemble Carl is Don Quixote.
I ignored the calls on the message board last week about getting you drummed off this board, but now my patience has been pushed past its limit. To (mis)quote a character who truly deserves the tag of ‘noble hero’: “Get the hell out of my message board!”
Andrew
****
Thanks to all my friends on the Beeb boards, but Hovis will be posting here! Bowed, but not beaten!
Crichton Kicks - June 11, 2004 05:38 PM (GMT)
Hi Andrew, I'd already seen the Beeb post, rest assured I've made sure it comes to the Mods' attention. I was placed in "Pre-Mod" mode yesterday, hence the change in username over there. Carl however, appears unscathed. From what we've heard about the closing of the WHO boards it's evident that the Beeb have no idea of how to handle a trolling situation, and now, like then the guilty go unpunished whilst the innocent have to pay the price. As I said, your post has been bought to the attention of the Mods, let's see what they do, or don't do as the case may be. I was seriously considering similar action yesterday, if nothing is done about the little Naughty word ;), then I'll be right behind you on the way out of the door.
Hope you're not feeling too down, probably angry, and rightly so, but the rest of us were delighted when you joined our ranks here Andrew and continue to appreciate both your input and friendship.
Take care,
James

On the Buffy boards we've found that when the Mod's limits are reached results can achieved by contacting the cult team (ie the Hosts) via the contact us thing on the left hand side.
Crichton Kicks - June 11, 2004 05:55 PM (GMT)
Cheers Neil. I'm off to investigate :)
Hovis - June 11, 2004 05:56 PM (GMT)
Thanks, James...
Feeling a little bitter and twisted at the moment, but hey, thats life!
I don't hold out any hope with the mod situation... they seem to be universally panned whatever Beeb board I've looked at and contributed to.
I'm sure Hovis will relent and post again on the Beeb boards, once I calm down!
Take care,
Andrew
Crichton Kicks - June 11, 2004 06:01 PM (GMT)
I'm making a complaint. The Mods will do nothing for the simple reason that their powers are limited and they don't have time to read all the boards, as such they more than likely have little idea of what a little sh*t Carl really is.
Let's see where this gets us.
Of course if we all complained about a certain someone in particular I'm sure even the Hosts would have to take notice and take action :)
Hovis - June 11, 2004 06:08 PM (GMT)
Just had another message from the mods... my repost has gone now! Must have lasted all of 15 minutes! Lol.
Andrew

Just to back up what Neil said, the beeb Hosts are generally pretty reasonable and will take action if something is brought to their attention.

Tell you what, they're a bunch of idiots. I flagged the message to the Mods with the "Complain about Post" thing. I then get a message back saying that they've looked at it, it doesn't break the house rules, so it can stay. And now they remove it. Does the left hand even know what the right hand's doing over there ??

I've made the complaint, let's see how far that gets.

Angel, I had to laugh when you know who tried to weedle out some support from you against you! :D

I'm not a violent man by nature, but I have to admit, I'd gladly take a baseball bat to the little Naughty word ;)
Persephone - June 11, 2004 06:37 PM (GMT)
Hovis, if you're still around, you have my every sympathy. I've seen some of Carl's posts and the only conclusion I can come to, is that he must be related to one of the mods or something. How his posts remain, I'll never know. :(
Crichton Kicks - June 11, 2004 06:43 PM (GMT)
Mass complaint time guys. It's time Carl was gone.

I've PM'd this idea to the people here who use the Trek boards, but anyone else wanting to lend a hand, please feel free :)
goth willow fan - June 11, 2004 09:46 PM (GMT)
I would help, but I'm not sure I'm closely enough involved, knowing the full facts to be much help.
Crichton Kicks - June 11, 2004 10:42 PM (GMT)
Don't worry about it Paul :)
I'm having another bash at getting his passwords. Let's see if the little sh*t takes the bait

I just wanted to let you know, that quite a few of your friends from the Trek board and the Buffy Board are leaving messages for you, in your thread. You're very missed. :(

Just had a look on the Beeb's Buffy board at your messages... thanks to everyone for the wonderful things they've said.
I will be back, but I want to see Carl's reaction to all of this before I do. Assuming he hasn't been banned of course! Or assuming I don't get banned myself! It's nice to know I've so many good friends on the boards, although I do realise that a lot of this is anti-Carl too. I haven't notice Jamie posting on these boards, so I would appreciate it if someone said 'hi' to him on my behalf.
I enjoy the Beeb boards very much, and I can't see myself being away too long!
Take care,
Andrew
Crichton Kicks - June 12, 2004 06:04 PM (GMT)
I'd like to get Jamie over here. Unfortunately he never joined the old Yahoo group, so the only way we can direct him is on the Beeb boards. I don't particularly want to link him on the Trek board for obvious reasons, and the GC wouldn't be a good idea right now either given the run-ins with their trolls at the moment.
Perhaps one of the infrequent users of the GC board could link him. If I, Paul, Lisa or Eric linked him there we'd likely attract a few that we didn't want finding this place.
If anyone can think of a way, by all means.
ken1701e - June 12, 2004 06:34 PM (GMT)
I have complained about the way HOVIS has been treated and the way Carl behaves to everyone I can think of that is linked to the star trek board.
Hopefully it will do some good!!
Crichton Kicks - June 12, 2004 07:40 PM (GMT)
I think we'll see how far the complaints get and then we'll take Tony's advice and just ignore the little sh*t altogether, just don't even acknowledge he exists at all.
Phillip Culley - June 12, 2004 09:39 PM (GMT)
Just to add, Hovis (since I'm not usually online during the BBC's oipening hours) that it's a shame to see you feel forced off the boards - while some of us got dragged into this bitch-fests, it was lovely to see you do your best to avoid them completely! :)
Crichton Kicks - June 12, 2004 09:42 PM (GMT)
Indeed. In many ways Hovis is the best of us. I wish I had his patience, alas the little Naughty word ;) winds me up too easily

Thanks for bringing this matter to our attention. We are currently looking into it...
Oh my god!! A message from a host!!!
Here's hoping they'll sort out your troll problem for you.

NJS - June 13, 2004 04:29 PM (GMT)
I hate to be harsh without knowing the person but that Emily B must be the laziest w*rker at the BBc and thats saying something.
In the two years I've been posting she must have "appeared" about 7 or 8 times max - compare that with some of the other boards where the hosts actually start and take part in debates.

Don't beat yourself up over it my friend.
Trust me, it takes a lot to wind me up but that little fcukwit seems to be doing it.
Still, it takes a rare talent p*ss off Us, Hovis and Ken
Crichton Kicks - June 13, 2004 04:53 PM (GMT)
Now that we have the Hosts attention let's just hope they make the right decision.
Only problem is they're just as likely to ban the whole lot of us
Number Six - June 13, 2004 05:06 PM (GMT)
Well, this seems a more than pleasant place to post :D
PS. I've joined your club. The odious one had one of my thread pulled. I feel like I've arrived
Persephone - June 13, 2004 05:14 PM (GMT)
Maybe the message is finally going through if a mod had responded, although I've never seen a message from Emily B anywhere but on the GC board

Iirc, she has only posted once on the Buffy board in the year and 4-5 months I've been on the beeb board. And that was just to plug that ludicrous Connector "service".

What's the betting that they come back and tell us there's nothing they can do as "technically" he hasn't broken the rules ??

I've been around on the Trek board since time began, a good 7 or 8 years now, and I can't ever remember a Host appearing on the Trek board, we've changed that if nothing else :)
TV Yank - June 13, 2004 09:14 PM (GMT)
Here's a message I PM'd to Angel in response to his PM to me. I thought everyone should see my reaction. And, Andrew, I know the feeling. :weird:
Hi James.
I reviewed those threads and I gotta say that my complaint isn't with Carl as much as with the Moderator who almost seems to be a good friend of Carl. I can put up with Carl's lunacy. Having my posts removed without justification annoys me more.
To put things in perspective, on the BBC Science boards there's a kook called Ese Callum (?) who posts Chicken Little alerts that make Carl look like the genius he claims to be. Recently, a Host posted an email to him asking him to desist but specifically reassuring that this was not a prelude to dismissal.
I'm not sure what "pre-mod" is, but if it's a consideration for being dismissed from the boards, then it is a case that the Mods are being once again arbitrary. You might, similarly, make the case that Carl breaks two of the House Rules:
| QUOTE |
* No disruptive, offensive or abusive behaviour: contributions must be constructive and polite, not mean-spirited or contributed with the intention of causing trouble. [Remember the couple initial posts that taunted you and me and others to respond?]
* No spamming or off-topic material: we don't allow the submission of the same or very similar contributions many times. Please don't re-submit your contribution to more than one discussion, or contribute off-topic material in subject-specific areas.
|
I think the best way to deal with Carl is never to respond to ANY post he makes, whether innocent or incendiary. I'm sure that Carl loves to stir up controversy because that's the only way he gets attention. And he's idiotic enuf to think that he's skillfully handling his opponents--nothing will convince him otherwise. If, on the other hand, he's invisible to others, he'll get unconfortable. What's more, if posters occasionally talk about him (indirectly and subtly, of course) as psychologically deficient, he'll be deeply wounded. I would.
--John
Crichton Kicks - June 13, 2004 09:16 PM (GMT)
Given Emily's post to the board, and given Tony's previous advisement as well, I think should the complaint route fail, the silence/ignore option is the one we'd be best going with. Before we do it, we'll need to subtly let the rest of the board know what we're upto. The post will obviously need to be as subtle as possible so as to not draw a complaint from Carl, or more importantly (because he WILL complain), let's give the Mods no reason for taking it off. The post will have to be aimed at trolls in general, we'll just have to hope that the other posters over there can read between the lines :)
TV Yank - June 13, 2004 09:33 PM (GMT)
Ooo, I'm getting into this...
Another annoying tactic would be to post a thread on an issue that Carl is interested in, such as "Is Star Trek predictive?" and take the antithetical position--and never respond to the inevitable Carl post. Sure, newcomers will reply to him, but if you and your co-conspiractors write the bulk of the post yet don't reply to him, it'll probably bother him.
Crichton Kicks - June 13, 2004 09:47 PM (GMT)
Now that's a cracking idea :) And we can still link it in with "ignore" as well. I'm liking that one John !!
Hovis - June 13, 2004 10:23 PM (GMT)
Good post by John, and I think he's absolutely right in what the tactic should be, should the complaint route fail. Personally, I think its encouraging that we had a post from Emily, and its good to note that the Mods are paying some attention to the complaints and messages we've all sent.
I did try the ignoring route a couple of weeks back, but young Mr Rylander has a habit of slipping my name into his posts, and I can't let his misrepresentations stand unanswered. But it would be fun if we all ignored him completely, even if he was responding to anyone else's threads!
Andrew :upside:
