Title: Angel S5 First Half
John Brawn - July 22, 2005 07:00 PM (GMT)
Now that my new computer is up and running finally I can now post about AS5 which I have been watching on and off recently.
I must say I have quite enjoyed it even if the quality is variable to say the least. Conviction is pretty good though the next couple of episodes up to the sweeps episode are pretty poor.
The more standalone aspect is much easier to digest than the impossibly convoluted S4 though obviously S4 delivered in a way S5 does not.
I am looking forward to the next 12 episodes as I am relatively unspoiled though I am aware of a few major events to come. sk

i like a good story arc in place of standalone episode (just stake harmony .... life of a party is kind of funny but for a lorne episode, it's a little lame)

I have only seen the first half of S5 and I must say. WHAT IS GOING ON!! There has only been one reference to Cordy. One to Connah and none to Jasmin!!
When will S5 pick up! If it wasn't my loyalty to the show I would turn off!!
I do not like alll the new changes and can see why it was scrapped. Although I would gladly watch another 20 seasons of Angel I fail to see when it will get better.

It gets better and upsetting Maria.
I don't know why people don't like season 5 as much. It's a lot better than season 4, IMO.

Connor, Cordy and Jasmine were part of the memory modification thing in Home, and so they were not mentioned as nobody (apart from Angel) remembered their existence, or why Cordy landed herself in a coma.

It does get better. From utterly cr@p it improves to average, with two or possibly three decent episodes.
smellyphagor - August 26, 2005 11:50 PM (GMT)
I love the thing, myself, as I've pointed out before. But I don't want the thread over run with anti s5 coments.
Bill The Bloodless - August 27, 2005 10:53 AM (GMT)
Anti s5 comments! They shouldn't be allowed. ;)
Maria - August 30, 2005 07:37 AM (GMT)
I really don't want to be anti s5. There are things I love about it such as Spike but I do want to keep on enjoying it. Well if you guys tell me it will get better then I have faith in you
melian - August 30, 2005 11:02 AM (GMT)
Personally I love Season 5.
It's funny and heartbreaking throughout.
I know there are some poor episodes, but what show or season doesn't have them ;)
Krazy - September 20, 2005 03:41 PM (GMT)
I personally prefer the last 12 episodes to the first 12 episodes of season 5 ;)
IMO it has like 2 decent episodes but other then that the season is weak. :ermm:
Maria - September 20, 2005 10:10 PM (GMT)
I'm scared to watch it now :ph43r: I will watch some more next week but the slower I take it the more I will enjoy it. Here's to the next 12 episodes.

Hey, mellow out, the only opinion that matters is your own. Some of us like it, some of us didn't. Ignore us idiots, just try to watch the thing om your own terms.
(Sorry if this seems patronising, didn't mean it to.)

I love season 5  Brought it the moment it was available. As Karen said it's got great heartbreaking and funny moments throughout :)

Oh petal- you've made me even happier now! Cos I bought the lot only yesterday and have watched the first box in one very happy and caffeinated sitting and loved it muchly. Even characters I'd like to slap (so far), newcomers I'm not taking to and the house rule that old time sidelicks returnees must have (apparently) Very Bad Hair Indeed to qualify for reinclusion...nothing matters compared to the total and blisssful Jasminelessness... I've waited so long for these, and I'm wallowing in the happiness right now.

:yahoo:
It's 'enjoyed' now. I'm recovering from a compulsive marathon view-in, having used up my entire weekend by Friday this week...
Recovering is probably wrong- floating in narrative Angel-space. Not Angel overload, but very very full...It's so GOOD! Didn't say I was in any way making sense yet...but processing happily.
Must pootle around everything folk's have already said on the subject... but I am very clear on one thing already- Wesley is not dead. The medical opinion of strange blue ex-wossnames counts for nothing in Harley Street, s I have decided to back the professionals. Hence, didn't even cry at the bizarre implausibility that this was meant to be taken seriously by any consenting paid-up viewer.
Feeling better now.

i am sure illyria had not study human body but ok she also doesn't have first aid skills so it's kinda hard to tell (even if she does have some of fred memory)

I'm very glad to have Mehitabel in the liking S5 camp... it sometimes seems lonely here...
But it is, all in all very entertaining. And, if I remember rightly from the beeb board days, Mehitabel wasn't so keen on s4 (like meself), so I'm thinking she has the very best of taste. If you liked the one in the submarine we should form some sort of club, or something.
Only Firefly to go now. :)

my problem are the standalone episodes (harm way, the tale of numero cinco, most of ghost spike)

They did leave a lot to be desired. Whereas Disharmony was brilliant because it had its own specific jokes to tell leaving Harmony as a mere incidental Harm's Way did not w**k because it focused too strongly on Harmony herself which is clearly an almost fatal weakness.
I must admit I did find her piling up the bodies in the closet pretty amusing but that was about it. sk

The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco had to be the worst episode in both the history of Angel AND Buffy <_<

Coo!
I've been feverishly avoiding spoilers for so long that I think I never twigged that likers are a minority. :ponder:
Also, huge compliment muchly appreciated - much more of s.4 grew on me once I gave it house room and got my head round it. Certainly not all. Not originally helped by pyschotic terrestrical scheduling decisions. Now that was a BIG financial and ethical poser for another long time- 'I hated that so I must buy it and try harder' - not usually a successful commerical ploy I understand.
Submarines- what's not to like? (Saturday morning underwater series of my exteme youth...with chaps on a submarine that went reassuringly 'bip' and 'ping' through their many adventures. WISH I could remember its name...) Only regret is that submarines without killer squid is a bit of a soft-peddle... the demolition of slavering Nazi killer squid by Spike in an underwater wrestling sequence would have been funnier than anything in Titanic..dont you think?
I can take Mexican wrestlers or leave them (the grannies in the front row waving their umbrellas at Jackie Pallo etc were always scarier (and somehow more macho anyway).
But does anyone (cos I'm so new to the watching series 5 concept let alone surfing the joy of having liked) ANYONE see any reason for Eve? Arrgh!
Firefly: if it's anything like the film I like it already. In theory. But where, when, how? (Sigh)

Probably Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea - early 60s Irwin Allen series.

I second that. I would go so far as to say Eve was just about the best thing in S5. sk

OK I'm still going on first impressions, but I though: default bimbo, adding up to not very much interest, contribution or overall purpose.
