Title: The Defenders.

jamiearmour - July 22, 2005 09:39 AM (GMT)
Here I am again, with my weekly reccomendation.

This week I'm going to prattle on :ph43r: about the virtues of a new Defenders series from Marvel comics.

Three of the greatest comics creators ever, (Keith Giffen, J.M. Dematteis and Kevin Maguire) have jumped ship from DC for this mini series. I got the first issue yesterday, and have barely stoppped laughing since.

The Defenders (a defacto team) consists of Dr Strange, The Hulk, Namor the Sub-Mariner and the Silver Sufer.

Dr Strange calls his team mates to arms when he discovers that the Dread Dormammu is planning another invasion of our reality. Dormammu has made a pact with his sister; Umar the Unholy and have petitioned the "Pan-Dimensional Oversight council" on the grounds that our realities mystics are weapons of Mass destruction :o . The council didn't agree, so Dormammu ate the council members. The newly elected council members agreed (wisely) with Dormammu's plan.

So Strange has to bring his allies together to fight off this planned invasion.

Namor: Egocentric ruler of Atlantis, get's annoyed easily, i.e. when Bruce Banner takes the p*ss out of the wings on his feet

Bruce Banner/Hulk: Also gets p*ssed off easily, and you won't like what happens then.

Silver Surfer: Former herald of Galactus, holder of the "Power Cosmic" and possibly the most verbiose heroes in existence. Trouble is, he seems to be stuck in a pocket reality where he has become the ultimate "surfer dude"

And the invasion has just started :fear:

It's funny, very funny in fact.

Go buy it, you might like it.

The creators are the main selling point of this book, as the blurb says:
QUOTE
Well, they've desecrated one comic book Universe....  And now they're coming for yours.  Keith Giffen, J.M. Dematteis adn Kevin Maguire are here to do that thing they do--and the Marvel Universe will never be the same.  (Okay, so maybe we're exaggerating...But wasn't Marvel built on a Foundation of overheated Hyperbole?)

But it's no hype. The book is great.
