| We're still rounding up news out of this past weekend's Comic Con in San Diego, and there's some sort-of bad news out of the annual event for Young Indiana Jones fans. Back in 2002, we told you how show producer and LucasArts executive Rick McCallum said that DVDs were in-the-works, but that it was a very long project and "won't be ready for 3 or 4 years". Based on the time of the quote, Oct. 2002, that puts the release firmly between Holidays 2005 and Holidays 2006...still a ways off. The Digital Bits website has confirmed yesterday that the release is still not quite here yet, but also states that the release is now tied in to another much-anticipated Indy Jones production. Bill Hunt, who runs TheDigitalBits.com, was at the Comic Con all weekend long (and ran a highly praised panel of DVD Producers; congrats!) and posted a round-up of news tidbits from the event. Among them was this: Two years of w**k has already been completed on an eventual DVD box set of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles: The Complete Series, but it likely will not be released until the eventual theatrical or DVD debut of Indiana Jones 4. That's not entirely unexpected, but since the long-awaited fourth Indy movie isn't entirely launched yet (the latest rumors that have reached our ears is that they are still finalizing the shooting script), it means that we probably won't have the film in theaters by the end of 2006...meaning that the DVDs of the TV show won't be getting released by then, either. It's not an unexpected marketing move, though, and it gives the DVD producers more time to do even more with the historical documentaries which will accompany the episodes. Stay tuned for more on this whole thing, as we'll update you on developments. |
