I'll deal with this one here as I watched it as the movie form :)

Wow. :o

From the start it's obvious this is an all new DS9 - and completely different from the series that started less than 3 years previously.

I'm still not happy about Worf joining though - having been with the DS9 crew for the last 3 years he feels superfluous, and seems to just be a gimmick to get TNG viewers to watch (and his made up job at the end of the episode reinforces this - if a 'Strategic Operations Officer' is so necessary, why haven't we had one for the last 3 years? :)

It's nice to see the Klingons also become the bastards we knew and loved from TOS. :D

And finally al ovely little touch - when warning Gowron and Martok of DS9's weaponry, they comment it's a ruse using thoron fields - which is just what Kira and O'Brien did do on Emissary. Of course, this time round Sisko proves it's no illusion... :)

I remember thinking this was an amazing season opener the 1st time I watched it and I haven't changed my opinion this time round

Love Siskos new barnett and own beard as opposed to strange felt one

I can see where you're coming from but I always liked Worfs character and I think he adds an extra element to the show, so I'm happy to see him introduced. Plus without him we might have missed the "nice hat" scene :)

Interesting that the Klingons are the current bad guys - I remember thinking the 1st time round that perhaps the Dominion were going to be shoved in to the background........

I remember back when I started properly watching DS9 (as opposed to catching odd episodes on Thursday evenings on BBC2), this was the first one I watched. And it was great then, and is still great. :) Was also the first time I saw the Defiant, and I was most impressed, and am still impressed. :) I'd want one if I had somewhere to patrk it. :p

Have to agree with Phillip about Worf, though - in retrospect, his role does feel very "shoved in". He certainly works well for this episode, though.

I'll comment in part two, seeing as I watched it as a "movie" :)
