Title: Plot Holes! Or Things They Simply Forgotten
Maria - June 28, 2005 08:32 AM (GMT)
Us die hard fans can pick up on most errors etc in the buffyverse but what actual plot holes are there?
The things that you think weren't explained / could have been explained better / were missed out.
We have convered quite a few from general topics but can we think of them now and put them on here?
The most obvious one I think many will agree is School Hard, Spike referring to Angel as his sire. Luckily the producers quickly got out of that one with Dru etc.
We have also just mentioned the one about Faith being the next in the Slayer line.
Any more?

the all buffy/dawn blood stuffs (the monks make dawn out of me so i have to jump to close the portal) ... ok love the gift but still
Maria - June 28, 2005 09:21 AM (GMT)
What about the whole curse thing? Come on Claire, I thought that would have been your first one!!!!!!
I don't think I will ever fuly understand why the gypsies decided to make him almost human :lmao:

What money was Giles living from when he was no longer a paid Watcher or a Librarian before he got the Magic Box, and how could he afford the lease
Why was there no mention of Willow and Tara paying board in season 6?
How come Buffy's father never paid any money towards Dawn's upkeep and why wasn't he first choice to look after her
How could Anya suddenly start school and get a job etc when there wouldn't be any records of her
How did Buffy do well in her exams when she missed so many classes, rarely had time to study and lets face it, wasn't the brightest academically.
:ponder:
Maria - June 28, 2005 09:26 AM (GMT)
God Alex, you have got loads!!!
I always wondered anout Anya, which leads to Angel. He was always well dressed, had nice furniture and was able to move to LA and set up there!
prophecy girl - June 28, 2005 09:28 AM (GMT)
in angel, giles mention there is no much mention of angel/angelus and yet kate (in angel) found records and books quiet easily :ponder:
Entirely Pointy - June 28, 2005 09:31 AM (GMT)
vampires -if they dont breathe how do they speak/smoke/get drowned for torture
also angel doesnt eat - but spike likes the onion thing and wants spicy buffalo wings? (possibly containing garlic)
faith - (i dont know if this is what you have already mentioned) is the real slayer so why was the first so bothered about not killing buffy till all the potentials gone?
prophecy girl - June 28, 2005 09:37 AM (GMT)
amy and rack ............. spike knew him ......... explain why he never mention him during the past seasons
the difference about the waking up of the vampires (the day after or a few hours later ............ see the watcher who wake up a few hours later zachary turn him)
"I am my thoughts" - June 28, 2005 09:38 AM (GMT)
If vampires have no reflection, how do they know how to apply hair gel/make-up?
If there were so many deaths in Sunnydale, and a large number of vampires , how come the human population remained pretty healthy?
How old WAS Jonathan? :ermm:

Something that has always bugged me is in Season 7, when Buffy Wood and Spike are driving to the high school Wood clearly looks into the mirror to look at Spike while talking to him, wouldn't he had noticed then there was no reflection
He doesn't find out Spike is a vampire until later :ponder:

Always bugged me!
What about Vampired 'other' bodily fluids? How can they sweat / cry do other things? - Which I'm sure Spike and Angel do very well. ;)
Entirely Pointy - June 28, 2005 09:53 AM (GMT)
where did willow/xanders parents go when everyone left sunnydale? would they really have left their kids behind?
prophecy girl - June 28, 2005 09:57 AM (GMT)
xander parents: without second thought (he embarrassed them enough at the no wedding day)
willow parents: don't seem to talk much to her after they met tara (the killer in me), iirc

Excellent
I didn't realise there were so many!
I think we should complain to Joss and force him to put these things right with at least another 3 series'.

Brilliant
Got another one:
In Graduation Day Anya tries to talk Xander into coming with her by telling him that's she got a car outside but in Triangle she doesn't know how to drive :ponder:

It wasn't a mistake in School Hard. It only became a 'mistake' when they decided to change it and for no discernible reason.

:lmao: Sounds like a plan
For a series that uses lots of obscure hints and nods you'd think they'd have done better. I suppose thats the problem with TV shows though, they are always made in a hurry. :)

It's such a nice day, I'd like to be gardening, and wondering how the garlic is coming along at my mum's (along withthe other herbs)- Spike and the onion things: onion and garlic are the same family, why does one w**k on vampires and not the other? Some Spanish onions are extremely pongy and  and much could be said for the offensive properties of ALL the alium family- you could brain a vampire with a large string of French onions, trip them up with the sack full of rolling pickling onions, poke them in the eye with a sturdy leek. Not sure about chives yet, but I'll w**k on it.
And I'm sure you're right about the buffalo wings recipe.

You could plait the chives to make a sturdy rope then throttle........ah........Mmmmmm :ponder: you could load them into a lorry and run them over with it?
Mehitabel - June 28, 2005 02:21 PM (GMT)
The lorry thing would w**k, as a delaying tactic at least- and I've encountered some rock-solid garlic bread in my time, the purpose of which seemed to be much more balistic than actually edible.... and the skidding properties of garlic butter were seriously underexplored in the show, come to think of it...
ant - June 28, 2005 04:04 PM (GMT)
Everyone except Buffy and Giles' parents.
The amount of times they get caught by the police, and the next day it seems like nothing has ever happend.
Not very good ones, I know... :ermm:
Eldred - June 28, 2005 05:40 PM (GMT)
Surely the point of garlic is to eat loads of it and then you can breathe heavily in the face of any attaching vampire. This should give you a few seconds to make a run for it, a few hopeful seconds, not much I know but when you are about to die even a moment of hope is better than nothing.
I have been gardening, planting runner beans round a wigwam of poles. I've been hearing thunder in the distance for some hours, yay for rain! Watering the garden is such a chore.
prophecy girl - June 29, 2005 08:37 AM (GMT)
no one noticing it has been the same guy as the mayor of sunnydale for a century
the governement building an underground HQ in between season three and four ... and not a small one
the governement guys asking for that HQ to be destroy and in season seven discovering nothing has been done.
season four: spike doesn't have a clue what happened to him, the killer in me: oh yeah i remember stuffs

Going back to the garlic, I thought somewhere along the line Angel says that sleeping in a coffin and garlic is a stereotypical myth? Maybe he says it in Angel the series.
Come on Claire, you usually know things like this.

You’re a demon and you don’t know anything about vampires?” Barney: “Only what I’ve learned from TV.” Angel: “Vampires don’t sleep in coffins. It’s a misconception made popular by hack writers and ignorant media. (Gets up) In fact you know, we can and do move around during the day, as long as we avoid direct sunlight. No mention of Garlic  I am 100% sure that someone says it! Could it be Spike?

i am not sure there ever was a discussion about garlic in the show, maybe in one of the book :ponder:

Well I always thought Giles was from a rich family after all he went to Oxford (I think) which doesn't come cheap I would think :ponder: Perhaps Watcher's are paid well?
I assume that the reason Hank wasn't involved was because they couldn't find him after all Buffy says he didn't even return her calls when Joyce was ill in season 5, I thought Dawn would want to stay with Willow, Xander and Tara.
How did Buffy get into college? well Dr. Gregory said she could think on her feet, she did study while slaying maybe Joss just wanted something nice to happen to her for change ;) I'm not very bright and if I can get into uni surely Buffy can!
If Sunnydale was going to be destoyed I don't think Anya would let the small detail that she couldn't drive stop her from make a quick get away.

I bet Giles was well paid and he hardly had time to squander his money! Afterall, he kept the same few tweed suites!!!
I bet he had a pretty good best egg. Either way, in case his slayer died (which I know he never would have thought much of) he would have had to keep a little away as he would basically be immediately redundant.
