THIS is the dramatic moment when Doctor Who “dies” — in a desperate bid to save the life of the woman he loves.
The Time Lord, played by Christopher Eccleston, sacrifices himself to rescue sidekick Rose Tyler after an epic battle with the Daleks.
Rose (Billie Piper) faces death in the final episode called The Parting of the Ways, to be shown tomorrow night on BBC1.
The only way the broken-hearted Doctor can save her is by giving up his latest incarnation in an energy switch — before he regenerates into a new Doctor (David Tennant).
Eccleston’s dying words before the change — illustrated by our own artists below — are: “Rose, I was going to take you to so many places. I was going to take you to Barcelona.
“Not the city Barcelona but the planet Barcelona. They have dogs with no noses there.”
But following his transformation, Casanova heart-throb Tennant’s Doctor begins his role with the words: “Hello. New teeth, that’s weird. Now, where was I?”
The revival of Doctor Who, which began in 1963, has been a fantastic success for the BBC. And bosses revealed yesterday there will be a THIRD series in 2007.
Before that, there will be a Christmas special — The Christmas Invasion — and a series next year.
