When Vedek Bareil is critically injured during negotiations, the only thing that will keep him alive long enough to complete the meetings is a radical operation that will turn him into a half-man, half-machine.

Some interesting ideas here, but on the whole it's a but pants.

What doesn't help is the fact the main plot jars completely with the b-story, and the whole thing just comes off badly...

Not an earth shattering epsiode but watchable enough for me :)

Not sure if Bareil was written out at the actors request or to accomodate the growing XXXX/XXX mistake

Doesn't further things too much but does reinforce Winns amorality and ambition.

I think Bareil's departure was more on the production team's side because they weren't sure just what to do with the character any more, plus they got the impression he wasn't overly popular.

Amusingly, when it was announced he was leaving, a previoulsy unknown group calling themselves 'Friends of Vedek Bareil' contacted them to reguister thir disapointment. They say there's a fan group for everyone these days :)

Edited for Spoilers.

Hmmm, not at all sure what I thought of this one :ermm:

On the one hand I enjoyed Winn's usual political manoeuvering, on the other I found the whole Bareil side of the story pretty awful and underplayed. Where there should've been lots of emotion with him and Kira there was just laughable medical technobabble. Okay, it was nowhere near as bad as Ethics, but still...

A disappointing exit for a decent character, which is a great shame.
