Thomas Riker poses as his twin William in order to steal the U.S.S. Defiant and hand it over to the Maquis, of which he is a member.

I wasn't really looking forward to this one too much, but on watching it I found it to be better than I remembered :)

The Sisko and Dukat scenes worked really well and the Obsidian Order having a secret base with their own ships seems fairly significant ;)

Probably the least enjoyable aspect of the episode was Riker, who just seemed shoehorned in to pull a few viewers in. (Having said that I liked the idea of picking up the Tom Riker thread, just not how it panned out  ).

All in all not the greatest ep but pretty good.

 didn't quite manage to see all of it but agreed about Sisko and Dukat.

Riker is always a little bit smugly annoying

Riker's always been one of my favourite TNG characters, and I loved the Maquis thread in DS9, so this one gets a big  from me :)

How interesting - in this episode Kira swears to Tom Riker that she'll free him from the Cardies, yet after this episode we hear nothing! (and apparently in the brief sent out for potential writers, Tom Riker was on a list of subjects not to use - perhaps they had some plans for him that never came through?)

I get the feeling Kira just couldn't muster up the effort to bother with him.

Were this an Enterprise Season 4 episode, of course, you can guarantee there would be a 3-part story arc written about him :)

The Tom Riker thread, like that of TNG's Sito Jaxa was one that they often tried to go back to, unfortunately, the right story never came up at the right time :(

Gits.

Didn't they deal with Sito in one of the novels somewhere? (not that it counts for anything, of course :))

Don't know offhand Phillip, my Trek reading's gone by the wayside over the past 5 years

It's a shame, she was a pretty decent character and The First Duty and Lower Decks are two of my favourite TNG episodes. Of course had they bought Sito back on DS9 then the impact of Lower Decks would have been forever undermined so it's a double-edged sword I guess
