Title: Episode 4.22
Description: Before the Flood

Psycho Jack - May 29, 2005 11:16 PM (GMT)
:o

Christ!

JJ Abrams once again proving that he is indeed the king season ending cliffhangers. It literally made me jump out of my seat. The whole scene was cleverly disguised, good lighting, excellent weather, romantic music, a happy couple… BANG! It just made the shock just that bit more shocking! I loved the fact that the camera was inside the car and captured the ferocity of the crash. It was very reminiscent of The Bourne Supremacy’s fantastic car chase.

Pretty strong episode overall. Although it offered nothing new in terms of atmosphere. It was all very influenced by the zombie (Resident Evil/28 Days/Dawn of the Dead) genre. Nevertheless, it gave a good background to what was happening in the foreground with the sisters Dervko and the rest of the gang. Weiss and Marshall didn’t handle the APO side all that well imo. Another face was needed to be running the operations, say someone like Kendell.

I almost feel cheated that there Nadia is still alive. They made such a point of saying that there was no cure for the disease. If the 10/15 odd “zombies” that attacked her didn’t kill her, the disease should’ve. <_<

Anyway - gonna be a long wait til Jan.... :tear:

Jack: “I’m trying to have more fun with my life!” :)

Shit :o What an ending. "For starters my name isn't Michael Vaughn". Wow. I thought it was ending too perfectly, everything w**king out, Nadia living (<_< I'm with you about the annoyingness of that, she should have died) Syd & Vaughn driving off into the sunset. I was getting worried it was going to be a very boring ending... silly me! I was going to say this was the best Alias cliff hanger yet, but in terms of oh my god wtf just happened pretty much every season has ended like that.

January? I thought it was back sooner than that :tear:.

I just watched the last 4 episodes all in a row, so can't really distinguish between them, so I'll just say a few words about them here. I liked the conclusion of the Arvin Clone story, I thought they might come back to it in the last ep, but I guess not. :o at Irina still being alive, I really didn't see that one coming, I thought she was actually dead for once! Luckily I didn't notice Lena Olin in the opening credits so it wasn't spoiled for me. I'd read somewhere that Sark was going to be back for the last episode, obviously that was wrong, which was a little disappointing as I was really looking foward to seeing him again. Overall I wasn't really impressed with this season, but those last few episodes were back up to the shows excellent standard, which it hasn't really been up to for quite a while. Can't wait for season 5, I just hope it can maintain these kind of episodes, rather than slip back into season 3/most of 4 episodes.

Edit: I've just watched the last few seconds over and over again and the crash makes me jump every single time, even though I know it's coming! Anyway, I was just thinking. If that whole thing with the giant red ball of water was Rambaldi's endgame (i.e. what the entire series has pretty much been about up until here) why wasn't there more of a fuss made about it? Where were all the Rambaldi fanatics we've met along the way. I would have thought that Syd & the gang would have at least bumped into a few of them while they were trying to disconnect the thingy. K-directorate maybe or any of the millions of other Rambaldi obsessed people. Also, does this mean the whole Rambaldi storyline will (finally ;)) be over?

Michelle - May 31, 2005 02:42 AM (GMT)
F*ck, that made me jump! :o Having seen a few :o's scattered around when people talked about the finale, for that split second I thought Vaughn revealing he wasn't actually called Vaughn was what the shock was, until the crash that made me jump 2 foot in the air.

It was a reasonably good finale up to that point, very "28 days later"esque, but that ending elevated it even higher. All ends were tied off, but like you guys, I was disappointed that Nadia lived, it would have been far more shocking for her to have died. And also it would have fulfilled the prophecy.

Also good that it's left open for Lena Olin to come back into it (although unfortunately, possibly unlikely :() next season, but they could get away with her not being in it (without having to resort to killing her off) because she's no longer actively involved in any plots. That may not make sense, but it's twenty to four and I'm tired. ;)

January, wow, that's rather a long wait. :( <_<

Ditto to everyone going EEK ! :o :o

I managed to spoil a couple of weeks ago on the MV crash bit, but still didn`t see it coming and it made me jump, too !

Fangy and grrr - August 29, 2005 12:09 PM (GMT)
I think I'm with Bill in that I found that a very average finale. :(

I liked the 28 Days Later look of Nadia ( can't say I'm that bothered if she should of died or not  ) and all the other infected people and I did actually like Wiess & Marshall stuff back at base ( they left Weiss in charge ! :o ) but apart from the fact that this might mean the end of Rambaldi ( please god / JJ let that be the end of it ;) ) it was nothing special.

I was more irritated with the ending that shocked. Some ending's, like the S2 one, make you go Oh. My. God. I can't believe they did that, I can't wait to next season. while this one just made me think what the f*** !! If Vaughn isn't Vaughn then that means they are totally rewriting the history of the show  and have made a total nonsense of all his stories throughout the previous 4 seasons.

Bill The Bloodless - August 29, 2005 02:25 PM (GMT)
The end of the world as we know it and none of them die, it takes courage to kill off your characters and it seems Mr Abrams hasn't got any, he couldn't even allow Nadia to die.

And were we really supposed to believe that Sloane was w**king for Elena or that she would trust him? Of course there's the usual ineptitude of the bad guy, from super master mind suddenly Elena becomes stupid.

And Syd's saving the world consisted of what - cutting the right wire? Well it was damn lucky she was on hand then because nobody else could have managed that.

Outta Sight - August 29, 2005 07:27 PM (GMT)
Pretty much the same thoughts as the rest of you, a good episode in terms of atmosphere but somewhat lacking in plot really  I have to say though, that the final couple of minutes were great  Lovely to see Syd and Vaughan being relaxed and romantic with each other after everything that's gone on and then Vaughan's revelation leading to many more questions and then.....SMASH!!! :o I also jumped in my seat which is not something I usually do  :lmao:

Personally, a little bit close to home after the weekend I've had :tear: but very well done

little pixie - August 29, 2005 08:23 PM (GMT)
Hands up, who`s already slighty spoiled for next season ? :whistling: I looked at the speculation, but stopped myself from looking at a real spoiler. Although it`s early days.... :fear:

Yay-For-Me - August 29, 2005 08:40 PM (GMT)
OMG :o :o :o Jumped so high that I nearly hit the ceiling, great ending  Even Ant jumped and he doesn't normally watch Alias  Who the hell is Vaughn????? And how did Irina know about him????? :ponder:

Can't wait for next year :)

melian - August 30, 2005 08:15 AM (GMT)
OMG!! OMG!! OMG!!!!!

I didn't see that coming!! Just who the hell is Vaughn????
He must survive the crash. He must!

I don't mind so much that they allowed Nadia to live, maybe part of next season will be to find her a cure?

What is going to happen to Sloane now?

Too many questions. That ending was just fantastic. First my jaw dropped, and then I jumped out of my seat :fear:

I had been wondering just what secret Irina had been talking about. Guess we (partly) found out

Vaughn will survive, how many times was he fatally stabbed last year and he was back up on his feet in no time. ;)

And don't forget not only did Nadia survive but Jack beat certain death a couple of episodes ago, they're an indestructable lot at APO aren't they ?

They do seem to lack the courage to kill off any of the regular characters don't they ? And even the ones they do kill off end up coming back from the dead somehow.

willowroolz - September 19, 2005 07:42 AM (GMT)
After the brilliant previous episode I thought this one was an immense let down. The climax of the previous one really got the adrenalin pumping, so it just didn't seem right to me that they spent half this episode strolling around the city like they didn't have a care in the world

Best bit was Nadia being chased down the tracks

After the build-up since the end of the third season to this fight between Syd and Nadia the actual event was incredibly tepid and lacking in any suspense.

And although the car crash made me jump (even though I'd spent the entire scene shouting at the constipated tw@t to keep his eyes on the road) the revelation that his name isn't Michael Vaughan was a real "ho-hum" moment. I hate it when they make revelations like that about main characters so far down the line, it smacks of desperation

And besides, we all know that Michael Vaughan is actually the captain of The Greatest Cricket Team In The WorldTM :yahoo:

Holy Crap! boom! Off my sofa like an ejector seat!! I really enjoyed this season, but then I'm easily pleased! Do we HAVE to wait till Jan?

Not as good a season finale as 2 which, in my mind, was the best season finale of any show, ever! However, the impact (boom boom) was there. I knew there was a twist, and I kept trying to guess it and, like Steve, was yelling at MV to keep his eyes on the road!! :lmao:

Half of me is tempted to look at the season 5 spoilers, where as the other half thinks I should make myself wait. After all, I do have Lost to keep me going for the time be! :D

Did anyone else think anything of Irena's comment to Jack re Nadia "i wonder where she gets that" when he said how wonderful she was???? Was she suggesting that Jack maybe Nadia's father too?
