| Bester comes to Babylon 5 with information about President Clark's plans to discredit the station. But it has a price tag attached - he wants them to go to Z'ha'dum to look for any leftover technology that might help revive his lover. Garibaldi resigns his position as security chief. |

Again, another episode where nothing really happens, yet it's still excellent, however perhaps the first below-par episode for this season. Perhaps it's post-Shadow War burnout :)
I think the only major point of note is Garibaldi's resignation - whilst the guy's been a bit disgruntled with the whole Lorien business, isn't this a bit extereme!? :o
Number Six - June 5, 2005 09:52 AM (GMT)
I thought there would be more of a rest after the shadow war than this.
Clark's up to no good, Bester reappears and Garibaldi resigns. Wonder what happened to him.

So, the Earth problems rear their head again, and yet again, the appearance of Bester normally makes for a cracking ep.
Garibaldi's resignation came as quite a surprise. Again I ask, what happened to him?
Shadow allies, in control of the Centauri again - this doesn't look good. :ermm:
willowroolz - May 28, 2006 10:21 AM (GMT)
I quite like this episode. Bester's appearances are always welcome, and the confrontation between Sheridan and Lyta is excellent. Garibaldi's resignation speech always cracks me up (as do most of his speeches when they inevitably devolve into him saying something like "You know the kind of <insert random example> where this or that happens and makes you realise something else"  ). The final shot, even though you know it's coming, is still a shocker

Been a while since I watched this but the Garibaldi thing was one of the (admittedly few) things that really wound me up on B5. Seemed badly handled and everybodys lack of reaction to his clearly different to normal behaviour daft to say the least :ponder:
willowroolz - May 30, 2006 09:29 AM (GMT)
One minute he's climbing the walls because he can't go back to w.ork, next he can't wait to leave
What happened to him? :ponder: :whistling:
goth willow fan - May 30, 2006 09:33 AM (GMT)
Yes, but there is perhaps a reason for Garibaldi's abrupt change in behaviour. Maybe. :)

Dave's still smarting cos he lost the argument :ph43r: :lmao:

Lost
I know why Garibaldi is acting as he, is what bugs me is how everybody else reacts to it.
If I went from the naturally charming invidvidual that I am to be being off sorts and rude to various friends I'd expect more of a reaction. Particularly in view of the situation they were in. :ponder:

What do you mean "if"?
No, I agree with you for once
I noticed something similar with another character in Thirdspace, but I'll post those thoughts in the Buffy board :ph43r: :lmao:

Much in the same way that it took them ages on TOS to figure out that there was an 'evil' Kirk aboard the Enterprise perhaps?? :p
I could probably sit here and start counting the instances where something similar's happened on Star Trek and you could go out for a pint, come back and I'd still be here racking them up ;) Even moreso if we started to examine Voyager or Enterprise

Please, James, don't get him started - I have this argument with him every time we meet up

I'm fairly sure that in the two years that 'Old Grandpa Rylander' was spouting his purile rhetoric over on the Star Trek boards I've encountered pretty much every possible criticism of B5, and Star Trek's supposed superior merits.
(Not for a second suggesting that you're spouting purile rhetoric there Dave )
In short, heard it all before, didn't believe it then, don't believe it now. B5's better than Star Trek. It just is. Star Trek in it's heyday was great. On the one hand, TOS's first year, TNG's Season 3 onwards, all of DS9; but on the other, TOS's last couple of seasons, TNG's first couple, pretty much all of Voyager, and definitely all of Enterprise. They were of very questionable quality.
To be fair, TOS aside, Star Trek's effectively the Stargate SG1 of it's day. The safe, largely by the numbers, bubblegum sci-fi for the masses.
I loved DS9, but I still realised that it was essentially a watered down version of B5. Pretty much because it was. I'm sure everyone knows the story by now, of Paramount holding the B5 series bible for a number of months before eventually declining the project because they had a 'similar' show in pre-production, DS9, which then went on to display a number of the elements that would eventually appear in B5.
There's your argument clincher Steve, even the best of Trek was essentially written by JMS. And I don't ever recall Warner Bros. ever asking Rick Berman/Brannon Braga for their thoughts on how to improve B5.....

But at least that was over a single episode generally :p
And I don't recall building TNG and TOS up as the best TV sci-fi bar none either  :snooty:

Not that it matters of course. I'm still clearly right :snooty:

Well of course not. They're not. B5 is........
I don't really think I could describe anyone as having the argumentative skills of Carl Rylander. That's just about the worse curse I could utter ever!!

Unless possibly put up against Enterprise I guess, or possibly The Muppets :ponder:
Besides according to my Radio Times Guide To Science Fiction Star Trek (and therefore DS9) is best :p :snooty:
