Sisko tries to make peace with the Dominion in the Gamma Quadrant. His attempt falls apart when the Defiant comes under attack from the Jem'Hadar, leaving the ship dead in space. Kira is left drifting in space in a shuttlecraft with Odo, who feels strangely compelled to explore the Omarion nebula.

Good season opener this one, carrying through the feeling of danger etc that the dominion represent, also introduces The Defiant :)

The Jem Hadar seem to be able to take out Federation ships almost at will so far, although at least Sisko & Co take one with them.

Most notable for Odo and the planet in the Omarian Nebula :)

Fantastic episode.

You can really feel the series being kiced up a notch, with the Defiant making its first appearance, as well as the first real contact with the Dominion and the Jam'Hadar, who reinforce just how screwed Sisko and everyone are :)

Also the Odo arc gets a huge boost, from the revelation that he is one of the Dominion Founders (you've found your people, Odo, and they're the evil bad guys of the series!), as well as the new addition of Eddington threatening his position on DS9, and giving him real reason to jump station and go back home...

Great opening to the season, although for me, this episode introduces a watershed moment, in the replacement of Trek's great model FX with the now conventional CGI. The FX on show in this episode just weren't as good as say those in the final scenes of the season 2 finale.

No Spoilers

Er, quite a big spoiler, that, because it isn't revealed until Part 2 ;)

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending how you look at it) I remembered that particular revelation so there was no great surprise there

Excellent episode, a quality start to the season. You can tell it's the start of a new season cos there are lots of new hairstyles :ermm:

My favourite scene was the one with Sisko and Jake suddenly realising that they class the station as home :)

Had to laugh at Sisko wanting to go to meet The Dominion to show that the Federation isn't a threat, but going in the meanest, leanest warship Starfleet has got, and sneaking up on them in a cloaked ship as well. How to make the right impression

Seska as a Romulan - some people are just born to be bad
