Solid but not spectacular :)
Helps to establish the Maquis as a future problem and always nice to see a political episode, can't really think of too much else
I've always had a soft spot for this (and the previous) episode. The Maquis, for me, were one of the most intruiging foes on the show, a nemesis completely different to those that had been encountered before. The quality of the writing here, and moreso in subsequent (and previous) Maquis-related storylines generated a lot of viewer empathy for their plight. The whole Maquis arc was one that was firmly entrenched in the 'shades of grey' camp, and for me, like the Section31 arc later, it's one of the show's best aspects.
Just one more reason to justify DS9's brilliance.
I enjoyed this one. The blockade was good fun, as was Dukat's rescue ("Why don't you just shoot them?" oslt  ). Also fun to see Admiral Whatserface turn up and get dwarfed by Sisko (she's about the same size as Patrick Stewart, never had quite the same effect  ).
I agree with James about the Maquis, a very interesting premise. In fact, the whole idea of the demilitarised zone is very interesting and as relevant now as it was then.
Best bit of the episode was Sisko's rant at Kira, where he said some very powerful things about Earth, and the difference between what's going on there as opposed to out on the frontier. "It's easy to be a saint when you're in paradise" oslt
