Title: Cybermen

Dan Brown - May 12, 2005 06:15 PM (GMT)
I always prefered the cybermen to the daleks they always had a bigger presence for me a just looked like they could do more harm, they could grab people and hurl them and are in my favourite stories The Tomb Of The Cybermen and Eathshock.

I really do hope that in the next series they revive the cybermen to battle the doctor again.

As I've posted before I think the Borg have made it difficult if not impossible to up date the cybermen. Which is annoying as they were a rip off. A good rip off, but a rip off. Ruddy Star Trek . Although I've probably watched every episode that has been on normal telly it really does have a lot to answer for.

I was dicussing the cybermen at the weekend. When I was a kind I found them really scary, as did my friend. We were discussing a Peter Davidson era story we dimly remembered.

I always thought that the Cybermen were scarier than the Daleks.

I don't see the Borg as being a hindrance to their return to Dr Who, the production team just need to be inventive, put a new spin on them, get rid of the whole weakness to gold nonsense, and make them truly terrifying again.

Definately, Jamie.

After watching 'Tomb of the Cybermen' a couple of weeks back, would love to see them next year. I do think the earlier Cybermen were much more menacing than the later ones. I think they looked a little scarier too, which is unusual, as monsters usually evolve to get scarier the more you see them.

No need to worry about the Borg. I'm sure the Doctor Who crew could come up with a way of tweaking the Cybermen to make them menacing again!

I think the costumes had a lot to do with it, the ones used in the later seasons were not that great plus I think  they ditched the barely audible whispering voices which I think added a lot to their feeling of menace.

One of my very first memories of life is the classic hide behind the cushions moment as a Cyberman came out of a manhole - Looking it up later I think it was a Troughton one where they invaded England probably about 68 or 69.
