Title: Season 2 Start Date
goth willow fan - May 10, 2005 08:24 AM (GMT)
15th July is the date given for the start of S2 on SCI-FI (US).
No date for Sky afaik.

yay, great news

 Like I needed another reason to get broadband
jamiearmour - May 10, 2005 09:21 AM (GMT)
Allegedly, both sci-fi (US) and Sky one are going to have exclusive episodes
| QUOTE |
Season 2 will premiere in the US first in July BUT it will be likely split in two by US Sci-Fi who are expected to show the second half of S2 in January 2006. Sky One will show it towards the end of the year (no date yet, but probably from October) which will allow them to premiere the 2nd half of the season before it reappears in the US, thereby giving both channels an exclusive each.
|
Seems a bit stupid to me, but if it's true, then at least we get gloating rights for the second half of the series and no long wait in the middle.

jamiearmour - May 10, 2005 09:26 AM (GMT)
Of course to complicate matters, "Starburst" have announced it the other way around. i.e. We'll get the first part earlier and split it in two and the Yanks get to see it all in one go
I wish they'd just make an official announcement

A little odd I suppose, but it seems fair enough, seeing as its financed by both channels.
You'd think they'd have the sense to show it as simultaneously as possible though.
Crichton Kicks - May 10, 2005 10:09 AM (GMT)
It's no different to the current situation with SG1 and Atlantis. Sci-Fi show the first of the season and then hold off the latter half until January. Sky start showing the episodes later in the year but end up premiering the latter half of the season.
Bakhesh - May 10, 2005 10:14 AM (GMT)
I seem to remember this always used to happen with B5 as well. The season finales always seemed to debut on Channel 4.
I've never understood why americans feel the need to break up a series so much. Whats wrong with one episode a week?

Except Season 5. B*stards :(

That would leave a six month gap inbetween seasons. As much as I detest pre emptions, long hiatuses between seasons is even more infuriating imo.

But then, other series seem to show a new ep, then follow it with a few weeks of repeats (i think the simpsons is a good example of this).
What is the point of that? Seems to discourage anyone from tuning in, as there's a good chance they've seen it before.
willowroolz - May 10, 2005 11:52 AM (GMT)
I've come to the conclusion that the best way to watch a series is to not watch it at all when it airs, see what happens, then get it on dvd and watch it at your leisure. That way you avoid any potential disappointment and you get to do your own scheduling

The only problem with that is spoilers. Theres only so long you can stay unspoilt.

Most shows tend to air about 3 episodes every 4 weeks.
Having said that, both Alias and 24 have this season started later, ie. the new year, and will push on through to the end of the season without any meaningful interuption to the run of episodes. Of course, you had to wait six months to get the latest seasons in the first place, but there you go.
Like Steve's suggestion, there are a couple of shows where I just store the episodes and then watch the entire season en masse, Carnivale this year, The Shield last. Sometimes it works, but as has been pointed out, you leave yourself wide open to spoilers if you can't resist such things
Personally, I'd rather see the odd pre emption than having to wait for up to half a year in between seasons. :)

True, but I have to deal with that anyway because I can't download shows. By and large I've managed it so far.
The worst one was a friend of mine had her sister visit from Mexico and they happened to let slip about a certain "event" that was going to happen at the end of Buffy season 5 (when I say "happened to let slip" I actually mean they took great glee in telling me). This was about halfway through the season on Sky One over here.
It turned out that they were joking - but then it happened anyway!

So your libido can overcome your fear of spoilers?
If some page 3 "stunna" told you what happened in the final episode of season 1 of Battlestar, you're telling me you wouldn't mind?
Men! <_<
willowroolz - May 12, 2005 08:15 AM (GMT)
 The concept of some page 3 stunna actually being able to follow what goes on in BSG would counter all repercussions for being spoiled :ph43r:

It airs tonight, does it not? Which would make it downloadable tomorrow - is there going to be an episode review thread like the others? Or a sub-forum watch-along etc?
goth willow fan - July 15, 2005 07:09 PM (GMT)
Ooh thanks for the reminder Rob. I guess we really ought to have Season sub forums :)

The file size is about 280 Mb meaning the quality's not quite perfect, but it's still watchable.
