Title: Blade Daywalks To Spike

LoobiLou - May 6, 2005 09:22 AM (GMT)
Spike TV says it has ordered a two-hour movie that will act as a pilot for a series based on the Blade movies, with a premiere targeted for early next year, Zap2It reported. David S. Goyer, who wrote all three Blade films and directed the final installment, Blade: Trinity, will serve as an executive producer of the pilot. He's not expected to write it, however, as he's also at w**k on two other comic book-based film projects: Ghost Rider and The Flash, the site reported.

Wesley Snipes, who starred as the title character in the films, but who is suing New Line, Goyer and others for breach of contract in connection with the last movie, is unlikely to reprise the role in the TV film/pilot.

blade film without wesley snipe ..... are they gone insane?

/probably just me

After the disaster that was Blade Trinity I can't really say it's something I want to see. To be fair I can't see how it could w**k on an episodic basis for television. Surely Blade is too violent and action based to translate to the small screen? I'm with prophecy girl how can you have Blade without Wesley Snipes?

Perhaps in the same way there was a Stairway To Heaven without Brandon Lee, if so then the two shows will probably share the same fate ;)

that is very true although Mark Dacascos ( spelling?) did a very good job of the role with all things considered. I just wonder how they could pull off Blade on a television budget. I also wonder how they could expand upon the character seeing as he's not very talkative or sociable. The problem as I see it is that Blade only does one thing and that is killing vampires. At least with Buffy they were friends and family, school or college or w**k, a love life... She was more than a slayer.

I wonder if they're going to do a spin-off based on Blade more like the Night Stalker characters played by Jessica Biel and Ryan Reynolds... Perhaps with completely different characters? I guess that could w**k a lot better than a TV series of Blade.

You've never heard of the Crow: stairway to Heaven? It was an American/Canadian television series based on the movie the Crow starring Brandon Lee. Only ran for 1 season I think.

Blade TV Series Coming

Batman Begins screenwriter David S. Goyer told SCI FI Wire that he's producing an hour-long television series based on his Blade movies for Spike TV, to begin airing next June. "We're doing a Blade TV show," Goyer said in an interview at CBS' fall press preview in Beverly Hills, Calif., where he was promoting his upcoming SF series Threshold. "I'm co-writing the pilot with [comic writer] Geoff Johns, and it's going to be Spike's first dramatic show, and it's going to air next June."

Goyer said that the network has ordered 13 episodes of the new series, which will center on the vampire-killing hero of the Blade films, which Goyer also wrote (he directed that last one, Blade: Trinity). "It'll be Blade, but it's different than the movies, that's all I can say," Goyer said, adding that a new actor will be hired to portray the iconic character, who was played by Wesley Snipes in the movies.

Goyer's a busy man. In addition to being an executive producer on CBS' upcoming alien-invasion series Threshold, he's writing a screenplay for a movie adaptation of DC Comics' classic superhero franchise The Flash. "I'm writing it as we speak," he said. "I'm the co-show runner [on Threshold], so I go back and forth. I was there for about three hours today, then I was w**king on The Flash, [then] we had a little Batman meeting. I multitask."

The meeting was to discuss the expected sequel to Batman Begins, which Goyer wrote for director Christopher Nolan. As for the sequel, he said simply: "We had a meeting. That's all I can say."

I feel more intrigued now and wonder if it will be any good ?

Sticky Gets Fingaz On Blade

Actor/rapper Kirk Jones, aka Sticky Fingaz, will star in Spike's upcoming Blade TV series, an adaptation of the comic book-turned-movie franchise, Zap2It reported. Jones was last seen as a soldier in F/X's Over There and will play the title role of the half-vampire, half-human warrior.

David S. Goyer, who wrote all three Blade films and directed the last one, Blade: Trinity, is co-writing the pilot and will serve as an executive producer on the TV show.

Jones will be joined in the cast by Jill Wagner, Neil Jackson, Jessica Gower and Nelson Lee. Goyer is writing the pilot with comic-book scribe Geoff Johns; the two have previously worked together on the Justice Society of America comic for DC Comics. Peter O'Fallon (House) will direct the pilot, which is scheduled for a June 2006 premiere.
