Sisko and O'Brien are stranded on a planet with a human colony that has forbidden all forms of technology.

Another reasonably good one this, although Alexis is so intensely irritating I spent most of the episode wanting to behead her.

Fairly standard Trek fair and slightly trite ending - "Oh, despite marooning us on a planet, lying to us and letting various of us die unnecessarily we'll still stay because we enjoy the lifestyle"

Bloody hell. There's me in my official re-watch capacity going back and digging up the next few episodes, and certifying them spoiler free and this is the sort of thanks I get <_< ;)

Fekkin' infidel :p

See, the words "Spoiler free thread" might've helped me decipher that

Thanks mate

The next one along 2x11 is a bit spoilery, albeit mentioning no specifics so I'll repost that one :)

I like this one. Any episode which takes O'Brien away from the station tends to be pretty good, and really this is the first time we see him in any great amount of time interacting with Sisko. The story itself is fairly predictable stuff but once again they luck out with some very solid guest stints.

I'm glad Sisko stuck to his guns and shipped off the lying hag at the end

I remember hating this episode when I originally saw it because, like Dave, I loathed the actress playing Alexis with a fiery passion. She has a really irritating voice <_<

Coming to it now, though, I realise that we're supposed to hate her, and once that clicked I found the episode absolutely riveting, even though I remembered it quite well.

It's yet another episode where they take two of the crew and put them in a difficult situation. I spent much of the episode wondering why Sisko didn't just grab O'Brien and leave the village, but then I began to understand that his quiet refusal to bow to Alexis' moral standards is really the heart of the episode. Neither is wrong, I guess. Even when we learn that she has planned and enforced this situation for over a decade the reactions of the other villagers puts it in perspective, as does her willingness to pay for her crimes.

Sisko taking himself back to the box willingly is one of the most memorable scenes of the series so far, for me.

So my opinion of this episode has swung around almost 180 degrees.

Superb
