Not a particularly good episode this one (imo)
Melora as a character annoys me, whether this is just the writing or the acting as well I'm not sure.
Bit of a nothing episode really and one which begs the question as to why Julian gets involved with someone who is a patient and even is she weren't, one he would be looking after a lot more than most crew
When I first saw this, I liked it. Having seen it again recently, I wonder why. An interesting look about disability and issues relating to it. Is it right to 'cure' someone of a disability, or do you change the very essence of what makes that person?
The issue is barely addressed. The Bashir/Melora romance isn't really that interesting. Neither is the Quark related part of the episode.
Not going to be in a hurry to watch this one again.
Andrew (HM) :yahoo:
I enjoyed it more than I thought I was going to at the start, again mainly for the development of Bashir as a character. It's hard to see him at this point in the first season having the patience or the insight to get past Melora's abrasive facade, which is nicely handled.
Apart from that it's a rather heavy-handed look at disability, not bothering to mask its intentions in any way whatsoever. It's an interesting subject but, much like Geordi's blindness, the writers have a habit of bashing us over the head with it. I did like Melora's decision that she was happier with who she was rather than what she and others wanted her to be.
The Quark side of the story is forgettable and only seems to be a means to an end for that final chase sequence.
Got to put in a word for the Klingon restauranteur, who is hilarious :lmao: Love the way he throws the plate of food over his shoulder after Melora tells him what she thinks of it, not to mention his serenading later on
Decent and enjoyable enough :)
