Title: Tomb Of The Cybermen

Received this on dvd from Amazon recently... one of the first I'd requested after I'd signed up for their hire service. I've requested a few William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton stories as I'm not all that familiar with them.

Put my feet up and watched the first episode last night, and thoroughly enjoyed it. My only real experiences of Troughton's Doctor had been in stories like 'The Three Doctors' and the one he did with Colin Baker. But it certainly was fun. The line about Victoria feeling uncomfortable in her short dress, and the Doctor saying it was ok as Jamie's was shorter made me smile!

I loved the Cybermen though as a kid. Lets face it, they look ludicrous, especially when you've watched the Borg on Trek, but there is still something very menacing about them. The earliest incarnations somehow look more scary than the ones I remember!

Can't wait to get home now, to watch episode 2! Should have brought the lap top in and watched at lunch time!

Tomb of the Cybermen is one of my all time favourites. Part of the reason that Troughton is one of my favourite Doctors.

You're going to enjoy the rest of the episodes, trust me

Yep! I did!

Thoroughly enjoyed the other three! Great stuff. OK, it's well and truly dated, but even so, it was still excellent, and great fun.

When you look at the Cybermen, you know they are just guys dressed in silver suits with silver painted tubing down their arms and legs, with silver painted plastic golf balls on the joints, but there is still something very menacing about them.

I loved the decidedly un60's Toberman... the big black guy that saves the day, instead of being the sacrificial fodder they usually were.

The last shot was a cracker too... as the Doctor, Jamie and Victoria (not Vic, lol) walk off saying the Cybermen are finally defeated, we see the escaped Cybermat focusing on the partially transformed body of Toberman, and we know we are going to be seeing them again!

Aaaah, great stuff!

Looking forward to some more of this!

Things like this just go to show how tragic it is so much of Troughton's w**k doesn't exist any more :(

Thank goodness for the audio releases and the fan-made reconstructions :D

It is indeed an absolute crying shame that the beeb were so short sighted (and underfunded) in the 60's.

But I cannot heap enough praise on the restoration team for the magic they w**k on the old material. I can't imagine it looking better the first time around.

Excellent story coupled with a great performance from Patrick Troughton, he is also one of my favourites after seeing this on DVD, I'm just waiting to find a copy of The Mind Robber.

Yep, 'The Mind Robber' is also out on DVD. It was released in February or March if I remember correctly. It's also my favourite Who story of all time
