Title: Top Cult show

ken1701e - May 31, 2004 09:26 AM (GMT)
OK so after that magazine poll, lets have our own, sorry if I have missed anyones favourite but I have tried to cover as many as I can.

ken1701e - May 31, 2004 09:27 AM (GMT)
STAR TREK

Only really one choice for me, Dr Who would have been my second choice though!!

Crichton Kicks - May 31, 2004 09:36 AM (GMT)
Just as easy for me, Babylon 5

Ditto :)

Michelle - May 31, 2004 11:44 AM (GMT)
Ok, lets see:

STAR TREK - Don't like
BABYLON 5 - Never watched any
ANGEL [ 0 ] - Seen em all
BUFFY - Ditto
FARSCAPE - Never watched any
EARTH FINAL CONFLICT - Never watched any
SAPPHIRE AND STEEL - Never watched any
QUANTUM LEAP - Watched quite a few
DR WHO - Watched when I was very young
BLAKES 7 - Never watched any
RANDALL AND HOPKIRK - Never watched any
THE X FILES - Watched the first 2 seasons
THE TWILIGHT ZONE - Caught the odd episode here and there
TRU CALLING - Saw the pilot episode, and haven't bothered since
SMALLVILLE - Never watched any

So on that showing, I'll have to go for Buffy :)

Crichton Kicks - May 31, 2004 11:51 AM (GMT)
I've only just noticed this Kendo;

Earth Final Conflict is included but Stargate isn't ??

It would take a brave man under any circumstances to include EFC in a "best ever" poll ;)

Twin Peaks should probably figure in there as well, and Firefly ;)

Michelle, Tru Calling, I didn't bother after the pilot for a while either. I have now, and it does get better, particularly the later episodes.

Michelle - May 31, 2004 12:03 PM (GMT)
Well if Twin Peaks was in there, I'd have had a slightly tougher choice. :)

I've only just seen all the firefly episodes now after borrowing downloaded versions from a mate. Apart from one where the encoding was messed up half way through, so I'm having to download that episode from somewhere. 34% left to go

I'll probably end up buying it at some point, though.

And maybe I'll give tru calling another shot. Its not like I'm downloading anything else at the mo. :)

Bill The Bloodless - May 31, 2004 12:05 PM (GMT)
I used to love Blakes 7 when I was young, a few years back they repeated it on one of the satellite channels and I thought great. I only managed one ep though before deciding it was unwatchable.

I went for Buffy btw, even with the disappointment of s7 it's better than the rest.

Firefly is just brilliant. Can't wait for SERENITY.

I'm using the downtime to familiarise myself with other shows. I've downloaded the first three seasons of Farscape over the last week and a half. No idea what's after that though, maybe the PC/modem will get a little breather over the summer months.

willowroolz - May 31, 2004 12:25 PM (GMT)
There's only a couple of shows on there that I either don't like or haven't really watched.

But in the end the choice was easy. Much as I love Farscape and Star Trek, and like Angel, Smallville, The X Files etc, Buffy stands head and shoulders above the rest imo.

NJS - May 31, 2004 12:50 PM (GMT)
STAR TREK I liked the original series - TNG was too preachy, only saw a few DS9 but quite enjoyed a few Voyagers I saw (which disqualifies me from being a fan I understand)

BABYLON 5 - Best Show. Ever

ANGEL - Second best show ever.

BUFFY - Third

FARSCAPE Quite enjoyed the first season then gave up on it near the start of the second - completely lost its way.

EARTH FINAL CONFLICT - Never saw it.

SAPPHIRE AND STEEL - Cult for ITV morons.

QUANTUM LEAP - watched a few - too samey

DR WHO - Big fan as a kid but try and watch it now on UK Gold and realise its incredibly dated and very much for kids.

BLAKES 7 - Watched the first couple of series I think - okay but nowt special.

RANDALL AND HOPKIRK - preferred The Champoions from that stable

THE X FILES - Big fan early on - lost the plot around S5 imo but I enjoyed a few episodes of S9.

THE TWILIGHT ZONE - Preferred the original Outer Limits.

TRU CALLING - Too samey too quickly - only watched first few - might come back to it.

SMALLVILLE - too Dawsons for me although occasional eps are enjoyable.

:)

Michelle - May 31, 2004 12:58 PM (GMT)
Okay, 3 people stating Babylon 5 as the best ever tv show? Maybe I'd best try and see what the fuss is about. :)

Whats that I see on suprnova? "Babylon 5 Season 1 Part 1", 3 gig. Hmmm.... B)

Were there just 5 seasons?

Persephone - May 31, 2004 01:01 PM (GMT)
I have to go for Buffy too, really hard choice between Buffy, Angel and the X files for me, I'm not familiar enough with the others to compare. And without Buffy, we wouldn't have had Angel, Smallville, Alias, Tru Calling etc, well in my opinion anyway ;)

goth willow fan - May 31, 2004 01:03 PM (GMT)
Yep 5 seasons of 22 eps M.

It is the best show ever, you just have to look behind some of the really hammy dialogue there was at times :)

Well, at least definitely not Angel, anyway. ;)

And you're probably right about the others too.

Yes but Season 1 Episode 1 is not the starting point :)

The pilot was a seperate double length ep called The Gathering (it was on Bravo this morning as it happens)

There is also a TV movie made after the series which takes place before any of the events in it but that would confuse the hell out of you if you hadn't seen the rest .

goth willow fan - May 31, 2004 01:37 PM (GMT)
It's not essential to have seen The Gathering first though really.

Unless you have a David like need to pick plot holes ;)

Kosh comes remarkably close to dying - not bad for someone who is pretty damned "tough" shall we say (being careful in case M decides to watch it).

Hmm, well I can't see that on suprnova. Though the downloads do state that they are dvd rips. Was The Gathering on the dvd?

goth willow fan - May 31, 2004 01:46 PM (GMT)
No. The Gathering and In The Beginning were released seperately (or together on R1, which is what I have)

Legend of the Rangers was a pilot for a follow on series set after the end of the entire series.

Crusade was also a spin off series but TNT killed it in its infancy due to gross stupidity.

I swear they're showing the film on Sky movies atm, is it worth a watch, seeing as I've never seen Babylon 5?

Crichton Kicks - May 31, 2004 01:58 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't particularly recommend it Persephone, not for a B5 newbie ;)

There's at least a few points in there that could ruin certain parts of B5 for you should you ever watch the series proper.

I didn't think too much of it tbh - there was a desperate need for a B5 type fix which may have led to over-expectaions but I felt it was a little dull.

You're missing nothing :(

It was originally slated for DVD release over here a few years back, though it got pulled when it became clear that the numbers weren't enough to secure a series.

Fraid so M.

I don't know why I never saw it, I probably assumed it was something to do with Star Trek and ignored it

Don't all jump at once, I have a headache ;)

I think it was pretty much before my time. Although, I have no idea when it was even first shown.

Number Six - May 31, 2004 06:02 PM (GMT)
STAR TREK Depends which one. DS9, of course. Voyager not in this lifetime

BABYLON 5 - Unbeatable

ANGEL - Never watched

BUFFY - Never watched

FARSCAPE Never watched

EARTH FINAL CONFLICT - Never watched

SAPPHIRE AND STEEL - Dark and weird. Bit too dark for today

QUANTUM LEAP - Never really got into it

DR WHO - I watched the first episode when it first aired and I stayed a fan. Though by the end it had lost it's way.

BLAKES 7 - Excellent. the heroes aren't very heroic and nice. Again, a nice dark tone that's a pleasant change from Trek's relentless optimism. (My only two claims to fame are that I went to school with Tarrant's brother and my first wife was related to Orac. How sad is that

RANDALL AND HOPKIRK - Depends which one.Fan of the old one, not so keen on the Vic and Bob one

THE X FILES - Another top favourite. Preferred the arc stories to the stand alones but I'll always be there when it's repeated

THE TWILIGHT ZONE - Good in parts!

TRU CALLING - Never watched

SMALLVILLE - Never watched
