Title: Joan of Arcadia

Crichton Kicks - May 30, 2004 10:15 PM (GMT)
Starts on Living TV on the 7th June.

This is the one new series from last year (ok, Carnivale as well) that cannot be missed under any circumstances.

Michelle - May 31, 2004 11:32 AM (GMT)
I'd really like to see this, but I haven't got Sky, and I can't find the early episodes available to download.

Crichton Kicks - May 31, 2004 11:36 AM (GMT)
I'm sure I've still got them somewhere. There's always mIRC ;)

I've never tried using that. I'll have to investigate. :)

Crichton Kicks - May 31, 2004 11:52 AM (GMT)
It's probably the best way of file sharing directly. DC doesn't look like it'll give you any joy getting the early shows either :(

Just give me a shout if you need it mIRCing ;)

Persephone - May 31, 2004 11:54 AM (GMT)
I have Sky M, so if you want it the old fashioned way, ie VHS, let me know

Crichton Kicks - May 31, 2004 11:59 AM (GMT)
You can also locate the first 2 episodes via Go Supernova ;)

Persephone, I trust you'll be checking it out then ??

Michelle - May 31, 2004 12:06 PM (GMT)
Ooh, two fantastic offers. :)

I'll see if I can work out mIRC first, and if not, I might take you up on the posting option, Lisa. Thanks both. :)

definitly Val, I have a huge cult hole in my life that needs filling, and M no problem, if needs be

The character writing on Arcadia is probably the best I've seen outside of Joss' work. Absolutely flawless. Just give it a few episodes but it had me hooked from the premiere.

Persephone - May 31, 2004 09:01 PM (GMT)
Will do, I don't think I've ever watched anything on Living before, so good job you posted the start date, otherwise I'd have never known ;)

Crichton Kicks - May 31, 2004 09:03 PM (GMT)
God know's how Living got it, but don't they show Charmed as well, or have I dreamt that out of nowhere ?? I'd have thought Sky would have snapped it up given their lack of success with the imports this year, Tarzan, Skin, Jake 2.0 etc.

goth willow fan - May 31, 2004 09:04 PM (GMT)
Yep Living show Charmed.

TV Yank - May 31, 2004 09:04 PM (GMT)
Ahh...with the season over, I consider JOAN OF ARCADIA my favorite show. I prefer it even to the CSIs and COLD CASE, which I never miss. A humungous surprise.

I thought I'd check it out, despite my atheism, because of the presence of Joe Montegna and Mary Steenburgen as the parents. Still, I wasn't prepared for the level of acting found on this show by the regulars (especially, the great Amber Tamblyn) and the guest shots. In fact, average actors are noticeable for their exception.

The stories continued to surprise even when I thought I saw a formula. And, religiousity remains in the background. The characters are too skeptical and cynical for that. The sassing that Joan gives God are soon-to-be classic scenes.

Crichton Kicks - May 31, 2004 09:11 PM (GMT)
I must admit when I first heard about Arcadia, I thought it had instant "cancel me" written all over it. Upon seeing the first episode I was even more convinced that the show wouldn't last, it was too good, and the good ones never do (with the rare exception).

I liked it from the start but by mid season it went beyond being compelling, along with Carnivale, Arcadia was one of this season's trade a limb for survival shows :)

The cast is an absolute delight. There are simply no weak links. If they can keep up the same level of quality week-in, week-out this show could run for years and years.

Fingers crossed ;)

TV Yank - May 31, 2004 09:15 PM (GMT)
No worries, James. The God-that-doesn't-exist is probably on it's side. :D

Crichton Kicks - May 31, 2004 09:19 PM (GMT)
It would appear so :)

One of the hits of last season wasn't it ?? Not only a great show but a rarity in that it gets the numbers to back it up.

I must admit one of the reasons that I turned to Cop Shows more last year was the fact that I'd had enough of my favourite shows being killed. Of all the Cop Shows I tuned into last year, CSI, Miami, Without a Trace, Cold Case, The Shield, NYPD Blue, how many of them have been cancelled ?? None. Says it all. At leat they offer the security of longevity :)

Persephone - May 31, 2004 09:30 PM (GMT)
Pretty much if it's a cop show or a hospital drama, cancellation doesn't exist. Damn, still can't get into any of them though.

goth willow fan - May 31, 2004 09:33 PM (GMT)
Cop shows are definitely the "in" genre again on American tv.

Crichton Kicks - May 31, 2004 09:40 PM (GMT)
To be fair though, while there's THE SHIELD and COLD CASE, I don't want any of them to get cancelled

It's all Law & Order and NYPD Blue's fault they started it with their 10+ season stints

I couldn't agree with you more. I actually thought this was going to be another 90210 kinda show and it was nothing like that at all.
For the record though there has been several promising cop shows that have been yanked to quickly. Like The Handler for instance I really like Joe Pantoliano and he was quite good in that show IMO. Also the few eps. of Robbery Homicide with Tom Sizemore that I saw were good to. :)

I was looking forward to this until I found out they are showing it at 6pm. I don't even leave work until then :( This sucks. Maybe they will repeat it on a Sunday or something. Here's hoping ;)

There's such a thing as a VCR ;)

I know, but when you live in a shared house you can't always do everything you want.

goth willow fan - June 4, 2004 10:06 AM (GMT)
Having heard so much about JofA I'm trying to aquire it via DC (which I have now got to work) so far without much success - there only seems to be a few people with it and they aren't online :(

Michelle - June 4, 2004 10:09 AM (GMT)
I'm planning to try and have a mess around with mIRC at the weekend. See if I can't acquire it via that.

It would be sooo much simpler if all the episodes were on suprnova.

goth willow fan - June 4, 2004 10:19 AM (GMT)
Yeah I had a peep, you can find the last 6 or so doing the rounds of BT but nothing before that :(

Haven't investigated IRC channels yet.

Crichton Kicks - June 4, 2004 05:14 PM (GMT)
I've got them. If needs be I'm sure we can arrange something via mIRC :)
