As the caravan bounces along a dusty hill, Samson and Jonesy pull up next to a lone traveler, walking toward them. The man, Stangler, tells them they're almost to Babylon, Tx. "You the carnival?" he asks, eyeing the trucks. "Been waiting for you folks for a long time." Samson and Jones are bewildered, as the man tips his hat and walks off, toward 50 miles of nothing.

A really dark episode. The town of Babylon is really eerie, not a soul around save Frank (John Hannah who makes a great appearance) who says he has tried to leave before but never can, an a sleazy guy in the picture house.
The townspeople when they finally appear look and act like zombies, you know things aren't going to go well, but the discovery of Dora Mae's body with Harlot scorched across her forhead still comes as a shock.
Ben after a heavy nights drinking finds himself stuck down a mine, who put him there? and finds a vision of Scudder, when he shouts I know who you are he replies - do you know what that means
At least Sophie makes a new friend.

Another good ep, and another riveting conclusion.
Must be because I've been playing Resi 4 so much, but the miners standing outside the window watching the goings on in the saloon really freaked me out, as well as the shot where they all come over the hill.
It was quite a surprise to see John Hannah turn up, but he did really well, and you know something's not quite right when he makes the comment about never being able to leave town, or something like that.
Justin's story takes a back seat this time around, but it's still hypnotic stuff.

He's not very familiar over here. I had a devil of a time placing him. But he was sooo familiar. It must have been a week or so later when I realized that I had seen him in THE MUMMY. I presume the Scottish accent is his natural one.
That's a positive thing about CARNIVALE: actors get to show other facets and, for a short while at least, become unrecognizable.

He was in Four Weddings and a Funeral as well, probably his most well known role anyways :)

Wow! Again, it gets better with another stunning episode.
Very dark, wasn't it?
I loved John Hannah's appearance, I thought he was terrific, as were all the regular cast as usual. Dora Mae's fate was shocking. The ominous locals made it obvious something was going to happen, but I wasn't prepared for that. Brother Hearing Justin's biblical readings in the background made it all the more dark and threatening.
Looking at Ben trapped in the mine brought on feelings of frustration and claustrophobia. Those scenes were so well done. So many questions. I love Lodz line to him earlier in the episode, where Ben tells Lodz that he doesn't know half as much as he makes out... what was it? Something like 'that half as much is much more than what you know'. (I know that's not right, but you get the gist!)
Looking forward to episode 6 now!
