Anyone who read any of my posts on the Beeb will know what I think of 'Duet' so I won't bang on about it here. Just to say that I love it, and it deserves to be put on a pedestal along with episodes like 'The Inner Light' or 'City on the Edge of Forever.'

Brilliant storytelling, so many twists and turns. An excellent guest performance by Harris Yulin, complementing Nana Visitor at her best. The first time I saw the episode, I was blown away, and every time I've seen it since, it has the same effect. The ending, where Marritza is murdered is heart rending, particularly the reaction of his killer, along the lines of 'He's a Cardassian, so what?'

Not just a top notch Trek episode, but terrific drama too.

So you don't like this one then Andrew :p

Cracking episode this one and still very watchable despite knowing exactly what happens :)

Great bit of character development for Kira and a very good guest performance by
whoever plays Marritza

Best episode of the first season bar none.

Duet, and later The Visitor, are the sort of episode that Star Trek forgot how to do after DS9.

I think this is the first glimpse at just how outstanding this new, darker series could be when it wanted to be. The way the viewer is manipulated just as easily as Kira is as Marritza leads her down one lie after another, always one step ahead, until Kira finally manages to get to the truth.

The performances here are faultless. Harris Yulin in particular is absolutely fantastic. When I first saw the series I must admit the two things that I disliked the most were the Bajoran 'spiritual' angle, and the Bajoran/Cardassian troubles. Now whenever I go back they're two of the things I enjoy the most.

Along with the next episode, a terrific ending to the first year. After a slowish start, finally some momentum, and they've saved the best for these last couple of episodes!

Another static character piece that defies expectations. I remember the first time I saw this episode it almost reduced me to tears. It's another fantastic guest star performance, following on from Brian Keith, and Harris Yulin is even better. It seems to me that if they put Nana Visitor against actors of this quality it improves her own performance no end.

The way this episode sows seeds of doubt in your own mind is really something special. Up until that final moment when Marritza (sp?) finally breaks down I was never quite sure exactly how things were going to turn out. As it is it's heartbreaking.

And that final scene on the Promenade is, literally, a killer, with Kira finally realising the error of her ways.

Brilliant

Spot on. Never put my finger on it before but NV does raise her game against quality guest stars

I've never been a fan of Nana's but watching it again makes me realise how well she gets to grips with Kira's seetning contradictions
