Title: X-files 2 Gets Closer
LoobiLou - April 4, 2005 09:12 AM (GMT)
David Duchovny told SCI FI Wire that he, Gillian Anderson and Chris Carter are on board for a second feature film based on their hit TV series The X-Files and that the project is inching toward becoming a reality. Carter would write and produce, while Duchovny and Anderson would reprise their respective roles as FBI special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. "As far I know we're all getting very close to saying that it would be shooting sometime early next year," Duchovny said in an interview while promoting his latest film, House of D, a drama that he directed. "So it's much closer to being a reality than in the last couple of years."
Duchovny added: "I know that I'm in, Gillian's in and Chris Carter is in. It's just a matter of making sure that everybody is free at the right time. So I would be in it. I know that Chris has an idea. He's got an idea that he's told me that I think is good. He just has to get the go-ahead to execute it."

I heard on the radio last night that Duchovny and Anderson where in talks with Chris Carter and that the second film has now been officially announced and that filming should commence this year. I cannot wait.

Yeh apparently filming starts in December!!!!!!!! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Slight jumping of the gun. Nothing's officially announced as yet, but DD's certainly talking it up a storm doing all his press junkets for House of D.
All we know for certain right now is that DD wants to do it, GA wants to do it and CC wants to do it. FOX haven't come out and announced anything yet, but we can only assume that dealings are going on in the background, ironing out contracts, etc. Word is, FOX aren't keen on greenlighting a second film without a script in place, and CC only has a storyline outline at the mo.

Mulder, Scully ready for 2nd 'X-Files' flick
| QUOTE |
Can you handle the truth? It's about to be out there again. Plans haven't been announced, but they're under way for another "X-Files" movie, which will reunite David Duchovny as Special Agent Fox Mulder with Gillian Anderson as Special Agent Dana Scully.
"I'd like to shoot next winter," Duchovny told GLARE this week.
Of course, there has been quite a lag since the last "X-Files" film in 1998. "We did the first movie while the show was still running. It was madness. It was like a full 22 months in a row of just shooting 'X-Files,' " Duchovny recalled. "It was crazy for all of us."
Afterward, there also was a little "X-Files" backlash. "When the show ended, it was our time for people to turn on us and say, 'Oh, the show lost it,' " said an upfront Duchovny. "Now, it's years later and time for people to remember how great the show was. Now, I hear, 'We're sorry we ever said you lost it. Come back. But is it still true you and Gillian don't get along? We need to know.' "
Well?
"We get along fine," Duchovny insists. "We e-mail each other all the time."
As for plot secrets of the new "X-Files" movie, he said, "It will be like one of our stand-alone episodes instead of about topics such as Mulder's sister or the whole alien conspiracy. It will be more like we'll have a creature, a thing, a bad guy. But it won't be your average run-of-the-mill bad guy. He will be paranormal, weird and a megabad guy. And Mulder and Scully will be on it.
"I see the next movie as a thriller in the vein of 'Silence of the Lambs,' " he says. "That will be different from the first movie, which was more about the aliens."
He hopes to hook new fans, too. "Pardon the pun, but we don't want to alienate people who don't know about the show. We want to draw in people with this film who have never watched the show."
Speaking of which, guess who watches the show now on TNT? Yes, it's Mulder himself. "When we were making the episodes, I'd say, 'Wow, some of them aren't so good.' But now it's on TNT. I'll be flipping around. I'll see one and say to my wife Tea [Leoni], 'This is really good. And I don't even remember the story, so I'm going to watch the whole thing.' I'll get involved and -- honestly -- I don't remember what happens next.
"Mostly, I'll sit there thinking, 'Mulder and Scully are cool. They have that elusive thing -- chemistry," says Duchovny. He also found chemistry with his wife, who stars in his directorial film debut "House of D," which opens April 29. |

Bowman Eager For X-Files 2
Rob Bowman, who directed the 1998 movie version of The X-Files, told SCI FI Wire that he's open to helming a follow-up—but that he hasn't been asked yet. "I would be honored to direct it," Bowman said in an interview while promoting Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King, the upcoming TNT anthology series. "The only thing is I can't ask myself to do it. That's up to [The X-Files creator] Chris [Carter] and the studio. I've always said—and I've always believed, most importantly—I can't wait to see that film. If I'm invited to participate as a director, great, and if I'm not, that would be fine, too."
No start date has been announced for The X-Files 2, which has been delayed in part by Carter's legal battles with 20th Century Fox over revenues from the old X-Files series. But the pieces look to be in place for the project to finally come together, and all of the principals have said they're interested in coming back.
"It's Chris' show, and David [Duchovny] and Gillian [Anderson] are the face of the show," Bowman said. "If it's not me, I can live happily knowing that I had my great time on the show. If I do get it, hey, man, I'm going to kill myself making the best movie I possibly can."
Bowman cut his directing teeth in television, helming multiple episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation and The X-Files, among other shows, as well as the movies Reign of Fire and Elektra. Most recently, Bowman directed two episodes of Nightmares & Dreamscapes and the pilot of the upcoming ABC SF series Day Break, which is slated for a midseason debut |

There was a quote in the paper the other day from Gillian Anderson saying it'll never happen, which probably means it'll be out next year
Ghostmachine - July 5, 2006 01:19 PM (GMT)
Well, it's not on Fox's schedule. The rumour is that they don't want Chris Carter to write and direct it. Chris Carter obviously feels a bit differently. Therefore = stalemate.
Kinda think the time has passed for this now. A couple of years ago, yes, I'd have been dead eager for it, but now it feels a bit yesterday's news.
After all, not many traipsed out to see the eagerly awaited sequel to Basic Instinct this year, did they? The gap can be too long as to render a sequel irrelevant.

Another good example of this is Bad Boys 1 and Bad Boys 2......
willowroolz - July 6, 2006 07:22 AM (GMT)
Nobody went to see Basic Instinct 2 because the reviews made it clear it was pants (and the original was rubbish, too). A better example might be the Alien movies, and the 7 year gap between Alien and Aliens didn't do them any harm. Then, of course, there was the 10 year span between the cancellation of Star Trek and its first movie (perhaps a more appropriate comparison, being a tv to cinema conversion).
I think the main problem for any X Files sequel is that a lot of people drifted away from the show because they felt the series went on for 3 or 4 seasons too far and became stale.

Cough! Cough! I was one of the 10 people who went to see it and yes, it was total rubbish, and yes the first one was awful too. But Shazza did look AMAZING for what? 48? Gotta love that Botox!
Meanwhile, back at XF2, a lot of people seem to be getting their knickers in a twist over whether it should be a mytharc movie or a standalone. Given that the first movie was incomprehensible to non-XF fans (and I should know, I forced a pile of them to come along with me and they didn't have a clue what it was about - though they did enjoy it), I think standalone, scary and lots of close-ups of the beauteous Ms Gillian Anderson would do the trick.
And speaking of Ms Anderson, her next film "The Last King of Scotland", about Idi Amin, due out in September is already attracting some Oscar buzz. Mainly for Forest Whitaker playing the dictator. But it would be great to see Gillian in a film with a lot of high profile.

How very dare they!
Personally I'd love the second film to tie in with the "dead speaking/aiding to the living" plot they were hinting at in "The Truth", and how they'll deal with the invasion. It should also have the entire season 9 cast with of course deceased characters coming back to aid Mulder. I'd also like it to be so mythology heavy that it would take a thousand rewatches to fully understand it, and I'd also like an in-joke/reference approximately every five minutes.
Failing that, a standalone scary movie would suffice. :)

X Files star confirms pregnancy Actress Gillian Anderson, star of The X Files and Bleak House, is expecting her second child, her spokeswoman has told the Associated Press news agency. London-based businessman Mark Griffiths is the father of the child, Anderson's second. The actress has an 11-year-old daughter, Piper, by her first marriage.
The 37-year-old star separated from her second husband, documentary filmmaker Julian Ozanne, in April this year.
Anderson played FBI agent Dana Scully in The X Files from 1993 to 2002.
Earlier this year she was nominated for a Bafta for her performance in the BBC's Bleak House - an award won by her co-star, Anna Maxwell Martin.
Anderson, who now lives in London, is up for an Emmy award for the same role.
According to her spokeswoman Corinne Freiberg, the baby is "due at the end of the year".

rob - July 26, 2006 11:02 AM (GMT)
from the daily mail:
X-Files star star Gillian Anderson is pregnant just three months after splitting from her husband.

The actress, 37, has told friends she is expecting a baby following her separation from documentary-maker Julian Ozanne, her second husband.
Friends said she made the announcement after passing the 12-week mark, when the chance of hitting problems in the pregnancy drops significantly.
Miss Anderson, who already has an 11-year-old daughter from her first marriage, split from Mr Ozanne in April, 16 months after their lavish Kenyan wedding in December 2004.
The pair had enjoyed a whirlwind romance and their wedding was held on the remote island of Lamu.
Miss Anderson is now reported to be dating wheelclamping firm director Mark Griffiths. The 34-year-old businessman, who operates his lucrative private clamping company from an industrial estate in North London, was previously linked with former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell.
Last month Mr Griffiths, who used to live close to Miss Anderson's marital home in Notting Hill, West London, moved into her new £3million home in nearby Holland Park.
The couple are also said to have enjoyed a holiday to California with Piper, Miss Anderson's daughter by her first husband, Canadian television art director Clyde Klotz. The actress's marriage to Mr Ozanne broke down shortly after The Mail on Sunday revealed she had a bizarre alcohol-fuelled outburst on a flight in January this year.
At the time fellow passengers told how Miss Anderson had aimed an extraordinary four-letter tirade at a fellow traveller on a flight from Sri Lanka to London.
One passenger said: "She was abrasive and aggressive and was slurring...the crew continued to serve her wine. She was not attractive, she reminded me of a 35-year-old spinster."
Chicago-born Miss Anderson, who shot to international fame as Agent Dana Scully alongside David Duchovny's Fox Mulder in the hit Nineties TV series X-Files, has had a colourful love life. Her marriage to Mr Klotz was as short-lived as her second. The actress left Mr Klotz in 1996 after two years, saying: "I've outgrown him. He bores me."
Miss Anderson has had recent professional success, having been nominated both for a Bafta and an American Emmy for her portrayal of Lady Dedlock in the BBC's adaptation of Charles Dickens's Bleak House.
Last year she starred alongside comedian Steve Coogan in the hit British film A Cock And Bull Story.
When The Mail on Sunday asked Mr Ozanne if his former wife was pregnant he declined to comment.
Asked the same question, a spokesman for the actress sent an e-mail stating: "It is not our policy to comment on a client's private life. We know, however, that you would like to congratulate her on her Emmy nomination for Bleak House and great continued professional success."

Article in the Daily Star on Saturday stated that David Ducovny is still trying to get this project off the ground, and he's still talking about it.

So, in other words, Duchovny's career has gone down the pan and he needs this to revive it. He should've thought of that when he couldn't get far enough away from the show a few years back

Exactly what I said to my brother when he showed me the article. But surely there must be some TV w**k for him, Kiefer Sutherland revived his career with 24.....
:ponder: Its funny to think about but if he had just stayed in the role for seasons 8 and 9 full time whether the show would have run longer or got another film, some people are critical of Doggett and Reyes, but they did inject some freshness into the show.
Lets hope that he can make it happen, I would really like to see some more X-Files even if its a prequel or even better an actual conclusion to all the plotlines that were still left open in what was supposed to be the shows finale which had no closure.

Former The X-Files star David Duchovny told IESB.net that the long-awaited second movie may come together as soon as this week.
Duchovny told the site that he was in final talks for the second X-Files film and should wrap them up this week. Plans are to start shooting in 2008 or sooner, the site reported.
Duchovny, who played FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder in the long-running Fox TV series, and his co-star, Gillian Anderson (FBI Agent Dana Scully), have previously said they would be willing to reprise their most famous roles for another big-screen adventure.

They need to do it sooner rather than later, otherwise it might turn out being like the later Star Trek movies (the original ones), with lots of Oldies running around, stretching credibility.

I always thought that in the later Star Trek films, they should have introduced some new members of the crew. Then they would do the fighting down on planets etc. and Kirk would stay on board the enterprise.
It makes sense that Captains would be old, wise, experienced men or women, and that they would send the young out.
However a new X-Files film would have to happen sooner rather than later, but has Fox and Chris Carter put their handbags away?
Conceivably now I don't think we could really set this during season 7, I don't really want to see it set then either, The Truth was very much not what the title suggests. A proper end would be nice, and with proper scripting and plot it doesn't mean it has to inaccessible to new audiences.
