Stargate Command encouters missionaries for a race of "gods" known as the Ori (pronounced "Or-eye"), and learn that the highly-evolved humans have zero tolerance for disbelievers.

After encountering a people called the Alterans, Daniel Jackson makes a mental connection with a being on the planet Celestis in another galaxy, apparently with the aid of an alien device. While there he learns of the existence of the Ori -- "fiery gods" who are served by other, mortal beings called Priors. The Ori are also served by the Doci, a being angelic in appearance, bald, and androgynous. He is a spiritual leader over the Priors who speaks with conviction and authority, and can even be used as a medium for the Ori themselves.

Daniel emphasizes to the Doci that he is an explorer and that he and his people wish to learn more about them and their culture. But the Doci tells him that it is the will of the Ori that they spread their religious message of the path to enlightenment ("Origin"). All who reject the path must be destroyed, by the will of the Ori.

Meanwhile, Lt. Colonel Mitchell visits P3X-421, where he meets another Prior of the Ori. The man preaches the path of enlightenment, and that the Ori are not to be feared. He speaks vaguely in response to Mitchell's questions, but stuns the Colonel when he tells him that they have learned about Earth and its need of "the revelation of your destiny" -- through their contact with Daniel Jackson.

The Free Jaffa leader Gerak (the former First Prime of the Goa'uld Atum) travels to Earth to meet with Teal'c and General Landry. There is tension among the leadership of the fragile Jaffa nation, and Landry pushes the importance of humans and Jaffa continuing to w**k together.

Back on Celestis, the Doci becomes possessed by the Ori, who speak to Daniel directly. They claim to be the creators of those people who serve them, and that all who abandon the path of enlightenment (ascension, apparently) are evil -- including the Alterans, who they say have shielded Daniel.

At Stargate Command both Daniel and Vala lay unconscious in the observation room. Drs. Lay and Lee monitor them, while Colonel Mitchell seeks help from the Prior in getting them safely disconnected from the device that is causing all of this.

Guest characters include Vala, the Doci, two Priors, Dr. Lindsay, a Jaffa named Yat'yir, Dr. Lee (Bill Dow), and Dr. Lam.

Wonder if the Ori are the big bad that we've been hearing about for season 9 ??

They sound a bit too much like Necromongers. Still, I'm sure they can make a decent story out of them.

I was hoping they were going to revive some of the storylines that had gone cold for S9. For example, the re'tu would have made a decent villain. Did they ever appear after 'Show and Tell'?

I also thought that Carters stunt in 'reckoning' would make a good starting point for S9. When she opened up every stargate simultaneously, she must have opened a lot of stargates that had never been opened before. There could be all sorts of races out there now trying to figure out the stargate network. She could have opened the proverbial pandoras box.

That would be quite interesting wouldn't it ??

I don't think the re'tu ever appeared after that one episode :(

Last i read S9 was starting with a 3 parter called Avalon, have they changed the name recently? It's probably me behind on the spoilers.

Ems :)

Is it just me, or was Julian Sands particularly bad in this episode  I couldn't watch him for laughing!

The storyline for the season seems to be shaping up quite nicely!!

You are kinda right. Series 9 started with a three parter, but part one and part two are called Avalon 1 and 2, and then part three was called Origin
