The renegade destroyer "Alexander" arrives at Babylon 5 and Sheridan is forced to announce the station's secession from the Earth Alliance, and prepare for an attack by Clark's forces. Meanwhile Delenn is forced to go to Minbar when the Grey Council refuses to act upon increased Shadow activity.

Absolutely Mindblowing!

The Battle for Babylon 5's independance is awesome, one of the most (if not probably still the most) number of ships on screen in a cgi effects sequence certainly on tv and possibly any medium.

Isn't this one a bit crap? :p

Wow, wow, wow! I considered the previous two eps to be good, but this one blew both of them out the water. Possibly the best episode of the series so far.

Although I can't remember what Hague looked like, I was quite disappointed when they said he'd died, cos he seemed like he was a decent bloke. Was this how the story was meant to go, or did the actor not want to participate any more?

Absolutely fantastic fight, very exciting. I got worried when more fighters came through, and thought "uh-oh, they're gonna have to surrender", then let out a big cheer when I saw the minari ships come through, and when Delenn appeared on the screen.

So, where do we go from here? It's surely going to get very difficult for Sheridan and his crew from now on. :)

There's a blooper where the other guy tells Sheridan that 'General Hague... has been double booked. He's doing Deep Space Nine' :)

How true it is I'm not 100% sure, but from what I heard, the guy playing him was playing Admiral Leyton in DS9's Homefront/Paradise Lost storyline, so he couldn't do Severed Dreams. As a result, JMS killed Hague off - he wasn't vital to the story, and in fact killing him did up the stakes a bit.

The actor in question, Robert Foxworth apparently had been informed of the dates which he'd be needed for B5, but then went ahead and got himself booked for DS9 at the same time. Joe, to say the least, was not impressed and then gave him an undignified, offscreen death

I don't feel it's spoilerish at this point to go over the Hague/Sheridan story either.

The whole story of Michael O'Hare being replaced at the end of the first season has been the subject of much debate and conjecture. Was he pushed or did he jump ??

The official line has always been that MoH was always intended to leave early in the series' life. It's fairly safe to say that this wasn't really the case at all. Warner in particular were less than impressed with MoH's performance over the first year. Joe has since disclosed that the character of Sheridan was always intended to be a part of the story. Sheridan would originally have fulfilled the role eventually taken by Hague in the series, with Sinclair continuing in what eventually became Sheridan's role in the series. The thinking being that there's too much baggage for one character to bear on his own.

As far as this episode goes, it's fantastic. Visually, and for impact, I can think of only two (or arguably three) episodes that are in the same league. The good news for you Michelle, is that they're all still to come ;)

One of the defining moments of the series, and a firm fan favourite it would seem

Where indeed :) It's a watershed moment. The situation is finally out in the open, but they're now fighting on two fronts. Have they bitten off more than they can chew ?? There's a great scene with Sheridan coming up, you'll know it when it comes up; part of it sums up Sheridan's situation/quandary perfectly;

I've got nothing to lose! Hell, my own government wants to kill me, and if we lose this war I'm just as dead

Rock and a hard place doesn't even begin to cover his predicament.

Where do we go from here ?? Oh, there's still plenty of story/scope left yet don't worry ;)

Fallen a bit behind due to a little illness so I watched these three together.

Every bit as good as I remember them. The final battle scene was superb and I still love the way Delenn faces down Earth Force. "Be somewhere else" is a great line.

Didn't realise that Robert Foxworth appeared in DS9 but I'm only midway through watching season 1 for the second time/ Mind you, I always got distracted with a character called William Hague, kept expecting a bald Yorkshireman talking about the Conservative Patty. At least they didn't name Enterprise's Captain Jeffrey.

Also good to see Vaughn Armstrong playing a right creep as well

I know I haven't been participating in the rewatch, but can't let this ep go without a brief comment because, along with War Without End, it's my favourite of the series.

The build up in tension throughout the episode is incredible and the action, when it comes, is stunning, better than almost anything I've seen, even on the big screen. The switch to slow motion and the music really bring the impact of war home.

The final, lingering shot on the poster is a masterstroke, too.

Fabulous stuff

I'll say it again - fecking marvellous :yahoo:

Must admit, whenever I'm testing out our surround sound system, or whenever I'm showing off it's capabilities to other people, I always use either Severed Dreams or Endgame
