 This episode reminds me very much of TNG
O'Brien's very forgiving isn't he, you tried to kill me but no matter, I'll help you anyway

This one is usually lambasted, and I can see why, but I've always had a soft spot for it.
It's another planet-bound episode, which, as a break from the norm, always went down well with me, but beyond that, it's a Bashir/O'Brien story, which again, always used to go a long way towards winning me over.
Admittedly, not one of their stronger episodes, but both Siddig and Meaney get to have a little fun.
As long as it's not taken too seriously, I've always rather enjoyed this one.

Hadn't spotted it, but yes, this one is TNG in tone isn't it.
Never been one of my favourite episodes, and a couple of rewatches hasn't changed my opinion. I wouldn't go so far as to lambast it, and there are worse episodes this season.
James is right of course, a pleasure to watch the O'Brien/Bashir relationship again, but I just don't like the plot. Even taking it with a pinch of salt doesn't make this one any more watchable for me.

Pretty weak and only loses out to 'If Wishes Were Horses' on my worst episode of the season list.
As everyone else has said nice to see more Bashir/O'Brien interaction and I've always enjoyed O'Brien trying to avoid the assignment and Sisko telling him to get on with it
Still can't disguise the pointless and largely boring storyline though :(

Much in line with everyone else here. Pretty dull but saved by Miles O'Brien. His look of bewilderment is classic.
The B story was pretty uninspiring as well with a very typical Trek ending. Watching Jake and Nog trying to impress the young girl suddenly put me in mind of Kevin and Perry :fear:

Watched this one again recently, and I still like it, if only for the inspired idea of seeing how Bashir and O'Brien w**k together. Who ever it was that hit upon that combination deserves a medal. They always had a terrific chemistry and that's evident even here in their first real adventure together.

Must admit I quite enjoyed this one this time around, which is odd because it is one that I've always loathed in the past. The O'Brien/Bashir dynamic is fun to watch (I particularly liked O'Brien's discomfort when Bashir asked him if he annoyed him  ), but someone needs to give those villagers a bloody good talking to - are we really to believe that Bajorans are that weak minded? :ermm:
It must be very difficult for actors to play the kind of scene where they're being attacked by the Dal'Rok, especially the storytelling part, when the effects - the sound in particular - are added afterwards. It kind of explains why I used to find those scenes quite cringe-inducing because the actors just aren't convincing in those parts.
One of the many episodes where I hated Nog with a passion
Slight query: here Jake says that Odo has to return to his natural state every 16 hours, but I'm sure it was said previously that it's every 18 hours? And is this the first time we've seen his bucket?

Aside from the O'Brien/Bashir interraction this episode really bores me

Pass on either. You clearly pay too much attention to these things  :p

They got it wrong previously - in every other epsode it's 16 hours :)
Chalk it up to the same anomaly of the week that made Rom a bastard in the early episodes as opposed to the lovable idiot in later episodes....

Thanks Phillip :)
Odd that they should change it for no apparent reason, they may as well have stuck with 18 :ermm:
