Title: If Anyone Could Have Gone To La
Description: instead of Cordie who would it have been
Maria - March 24, 2005 10:49 PM (GMT)
Who could have made a lasting impressiona and storylines could that have brought?
NO S5 SPOILERS PLEASE!
Krazy - March 24, 2005 10:53 PM (GMT)
Willow seemed to fit in well with Angel's gang.
laughitupfuzzball - March 24, 2005 11:05 PM (GMT)
Oz would have been great :)

I don't think they could have anyone different, it was good how it was! :)

I reckon Oz or Willow both would've been good as recurring characters, but it would knock the whole Vision thing out of the window, them both having their own special powers already.

Wasn't there already a post like this?
Anyway if someone other than Cordy had gone to LA I think it's fair to say it wouldn't have been Buffy. I think Willow would have made a good character on the show. Or Xander just to see him and Angel fighting. Or maybe Oz.
I don't think this counts a spoiler so I think it should be okay on here.
I read somewhere that if Angel had got to do season 6 Oz would have become a season regular.

I was kinda happy with the cast they had.
I don't think Willow would have worked as a regular, her appearance in season 4 was okay, but they'd have to completely change her character for her to fit in. I think she was just a bit too Buffyesque for Angel, especially her dialogue.
Oz probably would have worked if season 6 had gone ahead, but I'd have hated to see Angel turn into an extension of Buffy, with an ongoing parade of Buffy regs turning up.

I agree but have to say, this is what bugs me about shows and soaps.
Angel knew all the Buffyverse charactors.
It wouldn't have made it an extension of Buffy to have regulars from Sunnydale show up. It would just make it more realisitic.
Have you ever moved somewhere and then never spoken to family or friends from the town you lived in?
Cordie for example. Not once in years did she go to see her family. Same with Wes only for different reasons.
Sunnydale was apart of them all and hardly referencing it or showing them popping back occasionally only made it more unrealistic.
It's the same with soaps. The old Neighbours is an example. When Madge died, Charlene didn't go to the funeral! WHAT. Didn't go to her own mothers funeral simply because Kylie was too famous by now.
Oh please!
I may have gone off the point a little but the principle remains the same. In order for it to remain realistic, you have to have reference to past charactors and towns.
 I wil get off my own soap box now!

Angel knew the core Buffy characters, Buffy, Willow, Xander and Giles, no one else really :)
Xander and Angel never saw eye to eye, so that rules Xander out
Giles and Willow were never that close to anyone on Angel so they could be ruled out (obviously Willow had guest starred a couple of times, that's enough I think for her character)
Which leaves Buffy, and since they made a deal to stay away from each other, that rules Buffy out too.
Cordy and her family, yeah a bit strange with no contact, but maybe Cordy took the IRS situation as an excuse to sever ties, and Wes well, his family were in England, but something happens in season 5, that might explain that situation.
I think the writers were wise using only the character of Faith as a bridge between the two shows. She had history with both Angel and the Buffy characters :)

I love Oz but I can't see him w**king as a regular on Angel. They already have a quiet guy in Angel, they needed to have someone who was lively and outspoken to balance it out and that's what they had in Cordy.

I thought the same at first whilst I was thinking about the question but there could have been storylines like what OZ learnt, maybe he could have learnt to control is werewolf self and change at will, could be useful in a fight. He was also very witty if rather monosyllabic.
Hell I just miss OZ

Stay on your soap box I think you made some good points good points Maria, I think Willow would have made a good addtion to the Angel team. I just can't picture Buffy without her best friend but that wouldn't stop her appearing in LA from time to time. I like Oz but I don't think he could have help team Angel I mean he learnt to control his powers kind of but how did that help I mean when wolfs out he could take the bad guy but then what he would turn on Angel? he can't control himself. I always got the impression that Oz only lived the Scooby life to be near Willow don't get me wrong Oz is a nice guy who wanted to help out his friends but when he and Willow broke up I think Oz's demon fighting days were over and he would go back to living the quite life :ponder:

We don't see every minute of every day that these characters live. Who's to say that Cordy didn't go home from her job at AI and spend 6 hours chatting to friends/family from Sunnydale? Just because we didn't see it every episode (and we didn't see it because quite frankly it's not important), that doesn't mean it didn't happen. We saw it in one episode and that was enough to establish a precedent.
Wes didn't have any family in Sunnydale, and the only person who could loosely be termed a 'friend' was Giles - why would Wes go back there? He only spent 6 months in Sunnydale and I doubt he left with many pleasant memories.
Angel made a clean break from Buffy. The whole idea of him moving to LA was that he would have little or no contact with her. And the only other Sunnydale person he was even on speaking terms with was Willow: Giles didn't like him, Xander didn't like him and Oz didn't know him.
Angel did reference Buffy from time to time, when the storyline required it. That's how it should be - why bother referencing Buffy for the sole purpose of sending viewers into a hysterical fanwank mode?

well willow seem to be the best choice
also oz
TV Crazy - June 4, 2005 05:29 PM (GMT)
I think Cordy was the best choice to go to Angel. I don't think Willow or Xander would have worked as they were Buffy's best friends and you couldn't really take them out of the show. It would have been nice to have both of them as guest stars, i know Willow was a couple of times, but i think Xander would have liked to have known that Cordy was sick/in a coma because they were close at one stage. He would have added humour because he never liked Angel and the scenes with the two of them having to w**k together were funny.
I guess Oz might have worked, but i just can't see it.
Ems :)

angel and oz had in common the minimalist speech
cordie needed to grow up (mostly due to the fact that charisma was nearly 30 and it was hard for her to continue playing a character in her early 20ies)

Hardly....being a werewolf likely to experience a furry kind of road rage would not really qualify a 'quiet' life
I think Cordelia was probably the best Scooby to go to LA as she was the most unlikely. She didn't know Angel, she hated fighting demons, and she was completely self-absorbed. This allowed the writers to evolve her character :)

well anyway the angel would have just build the cage (from season four) a little early in the season
