Title: Cavemen VS. Astronauts
Description: Who Would Win?

Childhood Trauma - March 21, 2005 06:10 PM (GMT)
Who would win in a fight between Cavemen and Astronauts?

I voted for Cavemen.

Would the astronauts have weapons?

Entirely Pointy - March 21, 2005 06:15 PM (GMT)
cavemen - cause they used to kill dinosaurs and stuff so would probably be a bit mental so would have the extra edge

TV Crazy - March 21, 2005 06:39 PM (GMT)
As much as i would like to side with Angel, i have to agree with Spike, that the cavemen would win. Also Fred said they would win on her death bed, so i'm also inclined to go with her. I voted caveman.

Ems :)

ant - March 21, 2005 06:57 PM (GMT)
Astronauts would win because they are healthier, fitter, taller and Caveman just killed to survive, they were actually quite passive, and also because my mum says so... lol

TV Crazy - March 21, 2005 07:11 PM (GMT)
But the cavemen fought with fire and the astronauts had no weapons, so the astronauts don't stand too much of a chance imo.

Ems :)

Jo - March 21, 2005 07:30 PM (GMT)
But the fact that we humans rule the planet proves that brains are more important than strength or violence (well... ;) ) so...I think astronauts are quite a brainy lot so they would come up with a winning strategy.

prophecy girl - March 21, 2005 07:32 PM (GMT)
fred was the brainy one (the astronaut) but she unable to fight against the old power of illyria (the caveman or cavewoman) hence the caveman to win

erm..that could have been a one off...If there was a massive war..my money would still be on the astronauts. ;)

NJS - March 21, 2005 09:27 PM (GMT)
I think the fact that Illyria was an incredibly powerful ancient demon had more to do with her "defeating" Fred than the fact that she "came" from a cave :)

Krazy - March 21, 2005 09:30 PM (GMT)
Cavemen definitely because they are more ruthless  :p at Neil.

Cavemen definately because they are more ruthless

Astronauts would know how to spell definitely though :p

Cardelia - March 21, 2005 09:43 PM (GMT)
I wonder how many people aren't differentiating between "astronauts vs cavemen" and "Angel vs Spike"? Astronauts are stronger, fitter, cleverer, bigger and superior in pretty much every way to cavemen - it's really no contest at all.

Never mind astronauts, I'd fancy my chances against a caveman in a one-on-one fight.

PS - there's about a 60 million year gap between cavemen and dinosaurs :)

InsaneInTheBasement - March 21, 2005 09:53 PM (GMT)
Cavemen would win - they are instinctive savage hunters.
Astronauts are just military puppets trained to follow orders - they're about as resourceful as Riley without his Initiative boys.
:shifty:

kicking it old school - March 21, 2005 10:02 PM (GMT)
I know that in reality astronauts would win hands down... but I had to vote cavemen, for Fred. :tear: In her situation the "caveman" won, so I vote cavemen, but it only really applies to Fred/Illyria!

In reality astronauts would obviously win. Evolution: "A gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually more complex or better form " Species evolve to become better, so astronauts, who are however many million or thousand years after cavemen, are more evolved humans.

what I'm trying to say, I can never express myself so coherently though  (so I steal what I'm trying to say :shifty: ;))

On a related note, apparently the whole "cavemen win" thing that Fred said on her death bed was a meaningless thing, that everyone tried to find meaning in, like the cheeseman in Restless. I haven't heard the commentary for the episode yet, but apparantly that's what Joss says in it.

Whatever Joss or anyone else says, I thought it was a very apt thing for Fred to say at that moment - she realised she was losing her fight. The scientist with all the power of evolutionary knowledge and learning couldn't win against the older primal force.
I still say - cavemen win.

Illyria wasn't a caveman. If the poll was between astronauts (or scientists) and incredibly ancient demons with powers no modern being could cope with, then I'd be voting with the demon. But that's not the poll :)

True, true, Illyria wasn't a caveman, but wasn't it more about old vs new, than precisely cavemen vs astronauts? But anyway, like I said, I don't think cavemen would win, I was just being silly and sentimental with my vote , I'm not going to vote against what my favourite character ever on tv said on her deathbed, even if I don't agree with it . That's my crazy logic for you :D

Does anyone else remember the Megadrive game, Meglomania ?? many a time I remember bombing the sh*t out of the cavemen with my jet fighters

Astronauts.

Entirely Pointy - March 22, 2005 09:55 AM (GMT)
but you wouldnt have jet fighters

and whoops  about the dinosaurs mix up- you mean TVs not historically accountable????!!!!!!!!! dammit, my world is shattered :p

They'd have a greater degree of intelligence though :)

Entirely Pointy - March 22, 2005 10:33 AM (GMT)
maybe - but you dont kick ass with intelligence

cavemen would win because astronauts would be all crew cut and space food, and possibly knackered from going to the moon and stuff wheras cavemen are primitive and single minded , so if an astronaut attacked one the caveman would fight back and WIN

 :p

And do you think an astronaut with his superior intelligence would attack him face to face if he thought he was going to lose?

He'd watch, study and wait for the right opportunity and when that arose he would kill him. The caveman wouldn't know he was even in a fight until he was lying in a pool of his blood, dying. No fancy weapons would be use or needed.

But he'd be able to fashion some form of rudimentary weapon, not to mention formulate traps/ambushes.

Intelligence wins out every time ;)

i thought it was about if they were actually in a fight - not if the astronaut felt like sitting around and waiting for the right moment to attack

and also if they were in a fight , WITHOUT weapons, no traps, no sticks, no fire , no nothing. an actual fist fight with their bare hands

if it was a strategically planned fight and the astronaut attacked the caveman on purpose, with weapons etc then of course the astronaut would win because of modern technology and fire power

anyway, check it out , majoroty rules, cavemen are winiing so :p

It wouldn't make a difference. The astronaut would still be aware of tactics and fighting strategically. The astronaut's also far more likely to be aware of advanced forms of fighting, martial arts etc. Even without that though, the astronaut can fight an intelligent fight. The caveman would just charge straight in and end up decked :p

Bill The Bloodless - March 22, 2005 01:10 PM (GMT)
Ok, even handicapping the astronaut and limiting the use of his brain and making it a straight one on one fight the astronaut would still win.

Why are you assuming that cavemen are bigger and stronger? Better nourished and with a greater understanding of how their body works astronauts would be bigger, stronger and have a greater stamina than their inferior ancestors. Which would leave the cavemen only his innate savagery to overcome all the advantages the astronaut has. Would it be enough? Of course not. He'd charge the astronaut with no skill, no plan and no chance and would lose.

And the majority are rarely right, unless they agree with me. ;)

And of course, astronauts don't have to go through anykind of physical training at all

And the usual route for astronaut is through the Air Force, ie. military, ie. trained killers :p

If there was a massive war wouldn't the greater number of cavemen compensate for their perceived inferiority.

There can't be too many more than 200 trained astronauts?!?

Would the astronauts be in their rockets...cos then they could just fly into crowds of cavemen taking thousands at a time...

Astronauts. 'Cos then they could utter some cheesy Hollywood wisecracks afterwards.

Astronauts!
Although maybe the astronauts could just breed with the cavepeople and then everyone wins!

Craig G - March 25, 2005 02:55 PM (GMT)
oh. most definately astronauts.

think of it this way, Astronauts come from a time when they could learn martial arts! The cavemen know how to hits things with sticks.

So Karate, Judo, Boxing, Kick Boxing, and the list goes on...

vs.

hairy man weilding a stick (which wouldnt be allowed as there are no weapons)

my vote goes for the Kung Fu Fighting astronaut.

Though, the ultimate question here??? How are they going to be in a position to fight, you know. being seperated by a few million years of history???

lol

Aud - April 8, 2005 10:19 AM (GMT)
Wow can't beleive the vote is 50/50 seriously cavemen were brutes they used to hunt for their food astronauts are just kinda clever!

Maria - March 10, 2006 12:29 PM (GMT)
Cavemen.

They would have the edge as they would have fought on a daily simply for survival. Also the huge fact that as we are descendants it proves they fought well!!

Mehitabel - March 11, 2006 04:44 PM (GMT)
My deciding factors:

How many meals away from his inner caveman is the average astronaut? And who's better at snacking on fresh-caught furry animals?

How many actual astronauts are there added together - compared to boys who are just SOOOOOOOOO neanderthal under the skin?

OR,

Would that be a British caveman v. an American astronaut in any case? We need to be told.

prophecy girl - March 11, 2006 05:16 PM (GMT)
aren't astronaut usually coming from the air force (as in the military ... hence military skills)? :ponder:

Mehitabel - March 22, 2006 06:42 PM (GMT)
What are they fighting ABOUT anyway?

How blokey of Spike and Angel to assume that, if a cavemen and an astronaut were to meet, they wight not, eg like eachother on sight and go for a pint together.

Ah. :ponder:

Who would pay for the beer, the caveman or the astronaut?
