Title: Darla?
Maria - March 19, 2005 04:30 PM (GMT)
What does everyone think of the Darla brooding?
Angel staked her without giving her a second thought in Buffy when he had only know Buffy a few months and even though she but Joyce, she had done worse in Angel but never got a slap on the wrist!
Any thoughts?

first she was human, angel tried to save her and failed, and felt guilty and upset against wolfran and hart and had a hard time to deal then he slept with her (perfect despair), true he could have dusted her but i think he couldn't (a thank you kind of attitude .... ) and yet he knew her better than anyone else, she was gonna pain in red an other part of the world but he let her go.

Firstly I agree it was because of her now being human and the guilt but also she did invade his dreams and he became to depend on her in his subconscious too so he was more than a bit confused.
By the time she was truely evil again he did try to burn her :)

Ok, ok guys! I will rephrase the topic. Iafter I read it, I realised it made no sense! :stoopid:
What I meant was.......
In Buffy, Angel dusted Darla without giving her a second thought but in Angel the series, he seemed, as Cordie put it, brooding. I know she messed with his subconcious, but the way it went, viewers were led to believe she was the love of his life (or death!) although he repeatedly said he didn't love her!
What do you think of their relationship and his true feelings for her?

I am the sort of person who tends not to worry about details too much so I am not sure as I have never really thought about it. The genius of the episode Angel was to show that Buffy and Angel needed to make a decisive break with the past hence Darla had to dusted. This reminds me a bit of Alien where the famous chestburster scene is playing with the idea of making a clean break.
I suppose the Angel creators had to create a more nuanced character in AS2 so this creates problems. The genius of having Darla being an incredibly sexy succubus was one of the cleverest moves the writers ever made. I admit I have never really thought about the psychological machinations when comparing S1 and AS2. I tend to just let an episode wash over me without worrying too much. sk
