Title: Trek To Take Three Year Break ??

As for when Star Trek will have another shot to win the attention of modern audiences, Moore offered no predictions, although TV Week noted that most people expect Trek's TV break to last about three years. "We view this very much as a hiatus in the history of the show," Paramount Network Television president David Stapf told the magazine. "And I'm actually kind of excited to see what the next chapter will bring."
TV week concluded its article by noting that as far as Hollywood problems go, it's not so bad to have a franchise for which after ten movies and five series, people still seem so sure that after a while it will return to TV again. "There's really no other property that's faced this kind of problem," Moore said. "It's just this enormous, well, enterprise. There's no other template to look at. There's no other thing that's had this kind of life."

I think, whilst I'm relieved it's having a breather, it would be a good thing to put a definite timetable in place for it's return.

I wouldn't imagine there's going to be too long a break or a problem getting a new series up and running - the franchise is worth too much money for Paramount to let it gather dust :)
Hopefully they'll use the time to develop a strong story based series, similar to B5, and not just do ad hoc 'lets go in this direction' eps/seasons like Voyager & Enterprise :)

To be honest, at this point I'm fairly sure JMS will get the new show when Paramount are looking to bring it back to the small screen. Paramount are well aware of what he can do, and even though there's been ill feeling between them in the past, I think it's all water under the bridge now.
One thing's for sure, if Joe does get it, it'll be more faifthful to the original series than any of the latest series have been. Joe loved TOS, and spoke highly of TNG, but couldn't stand the latter three (of course he may be slightly biased against DS9 :p). It'll also be an end to 'Bland Trek' and Trek without risks.

I don't know - JMS can hold some pretty serious grudges :)
He still won't let SFX Magazine quote directly anything he has said or written, even though there is nobody still w**king on the mag that were there when he fell out with them.

I'm taking the fact that he was prepared to write a treatment for a new show as a sign that he would be willing to w**k with them, given the chance ;)

So, do you think this will shut Trek United up?
No, neither did I :)

Ah, the good ol' rhetorical question

A break of 3 years eh? Good.
At least the franchise isn't out to pasture permanently. Paramount will just have to find new ways to repackage the shows and the films to make money while it's off air :whistling:
On a side note....
Dear old Carl seems to be falling out of love with Star Trek. If this post segment from sci-fi24/7 is to be believed.....

| What is it about ST that makes it so re-watchable? Apart form Enterprise, that is! It's difficult enough to want to watch it once, let alone twice!! |
Is he waking up and smelling the coffee?

T**T = surely its about time someone shot Carl and put us all out of our misery!!!
Dont worry I am not going to start on my 'soapbox' again about how good ENTERPRISE is - you all know what I think about it.

I'm sure Carl has waxed lyrical about Enterprise before now.
In answer to his question, perhaps you should tell him it's so re-watchable because it's that bland that you forget what happened five minutes after you're finished watching it
