O'Brien befriends an alien who belongs to a race of beings that are bred to be hunted by another species.

Another episode, and another character taking prime position, this time O'Brien.

I have to say, this is one of my favourite episodes from the first season, the story, and the guest performance, and the relationship between Tosk and O'Brien are a delight to watch.

The story, obviously topical, is admirably handled, without ever ramming the issue down our throats.

There's also a bit of action as the hunters come aboard the station looking to retrieve Tosk, leading to a firefight with the station's crew.

I love the bit at the end as well where O'Brien disobeys Sisko to free Tosk and give him a sporting chance.

Our first look at a race from the other side of the wormhole as well, and given their success in the firefight with the crew, they seem powerful. I wonder if we'll see them again, and wonder just how powerful the Gamma Quadrant races are

A good episode this. I always liked O'Brien who swears, drinks beer and plays darts like a normal engineer.

A novel take, portraying the prey as a willing prey and more than capable of looking out for itself

The first episode of DS9 that really stood out for me. A great performance from Scott MacDonald as Tosk. The wormhole aliens were quite menacing too.

A nice look at the whole idea of hunting for sport, quite thought provoking really.

A good one.

Solid and watchable, but for some reason I've never been able to get particularly enthusiastic about it.

Well acted, not overly in your face with the moral bit but nevertheless I still find it all a bit ho hum

This was always one of my favourites

I like the contrasts in Tosk, the way he comes across as such a quiet, noble character but, when we find out what's going on, that he's ready to kick arse to fulfill his purpose. I love the way the episode evokes such sympathy for him, and such indignation in us to the attitude of his pursuers (who, after all, are only doing what comes naturally to them), and that we're cheering him on to his escape when we know that he will die sooner or later.

O'Brien even smiles when he says "Die with honour, Tosk" :tear:

Again, this is a wonderfully written episode for O'Brien. The moment when he figures out what to do to help Tosk is brilliant, and I love the scene where Tosk says to him "Now you are Tosk too"

Also, love the final scene where Sisko tears him a new one and then observes that they must've overlooked the obvious solution to the situation

Brilliant, brilliant episode
