Mob hysteria grips the station when Odo is suspected of committing a murder after a Bajoran's body is discovered.

The first one that really grabs your attention this one.

We've seen Odo plenty in the previous couple of episode, but only as a peripheral character up until this point. Here, finally, we get a little bit more of a look at the character.

The story itself is good too, as a mystery it's difficult to see where it's ultimately heading. Odo's innocence is pretty much always certain here, but it's still quite fascinating figuring out what exactly is going on. We also find out, not surprisingly, that Odo not only has enemies out for him, but he isn't exactly blessed with friends. We can tell from that already that Odo will perform much the same role that Worf occupied on TNG, the aloof outsider.

There are some powerful scenes, especially revolving around mob justice and Auberjonois' performance is faultless throughout.

Top episode, the best so far, by some distance.

A very good episode here!

Up to this point, it's been emphasised that Odo isn't the norm on DS9 - being the token 'mysterious alien' that Trek has always had. Thankfully he's not interested in the human condition :) Here, the fact that Odo is quickly set upon by a mob of angry Bajorans perhapos shows that now they have their freedom from the Cardies, they don't want an unknown alien who was w**king as chief of security during the Cardassian occupation to still be there. In fact, some of the riot scenes, (especially when a projectile hits the coor is quite shocking...

Sadly, the Julian-lusting-after-Dax story is getting boring now, and the sooner he gets over her the better :)

 Love Odo. He has always been treated as an outsider as he is different and is so again here, his defences are up as ever.

Nice to see him get his man in the end and be vindicated, Sisko obviously has a lot to learn.

Not so keen on the kids story though.

As one cranky old git to another, I've always liked Odo. He gets on with his job and doesn't much care if anyone likes him. That said, I've always bothered about this shapeshifting. I mean, he can turn into things like a rodent with a perfect rodent nose in Past Prologue but he can't manage a human nose

Definately the best episode so far imo :)

Well acted, interesting script and Julian comes out well, continuing on from the last epsiode (which I forgot to mention I liked him in  ) :)

Found it a bit uncomfortable with the Odo 'no friends' bit but all added to the atmospher of the ep

A good one. For some reason, I quite like Trek doing detective stories like this one. Nice to get to know Odo a little better, although I was always surprised that more wasn't made of his connection with the Cardassians when they were in charge of the station.

And nice to see a less irritating side to Bashir too.

Really enjoyed this one :)

Is this the first time it's mentioned that Odo has to return to his natural state every 18 hours, and that he's got a bucket in his office for the purpose?

As a mystery it's fairly decent. Even though it's immediately obvious that Odo's being framed it's difficult to see by whom, although the why is apparent from his explanation of who Ibudan was and what had happened between the pair of them. I like the Mission: Impossible style reveal at the end

Hmm, even though Keiko's a bit annoying I actually found the B story quite interesting, if only because in a normal Trek environment all the characters want to be where they are, so it's an element of realism that someone actually hates where they are and that it should cause problems in their relationships.

I never liked Nog, he irritated the hell out of me. As child characters go I think Jake is one of the very best, so it's a shame that I remember him being so involved with Nog at this stage. That's one aspect I'm not particularly looking forward to, but I hope it'll be less annoying this time around as, say, Kira has been.

Good episode

Have to say I disagree with you on this one Steve, although it's obvious to see where you're coming from. Your opinion, I think, will benefit from a full watching of the series. Nog, like Sisko, like Jake, and like pretty much everyone else on DS9, as a character goes on quite a journey. The Nog that you see in the first few episodes is nothing like the one you'll end with. It's fantastic to see these characters and their relationships grow and something that you'll only ever really get with a serialised format. For me, this is why DS9 is the best that Star Trek has to offer. TNG was good, with a tight core group of characters, but with DS9 every single character, whether it be one of the principle cast, or the supporting raft of characters, they all have their stories, they all develop, and they all come a long way from where you first see them in the series. I don't think I've ever seen a series, where the depth of character exploration is so diverse and so rich as it is with DS9.

No doubt :)

As I said, "at this stage" I find him irritating. I'll quite happily revise my opinion when the time comes

I used to find Nog irritating in the earlier episodes but,as James says, the character develops as the series progresses.

If only one could say the same about Keiko

Fair play though. Ira twigged pretty early on that she was an irritating b*tch, and f*cked her off for much of the latter of the series

Hello, old friend

Just a shame to didn't extend that to the remaining six seasons

Hello Tony, great to see you back mate

I take the fact that they kept Keikole to be showboating on Ira Behr's part. It's as though he was saying to everyone else, "look we've got this annoyance, and we're STILL great....."

I must admit I don't really have a problem with Keiko, as long as she comes in small doses

A whole episode focusing on her though :fear:
