| Major Kira's loyalties are questioned when she helps an old friend, now a suspected terrorist trying to destroy the Bajoran Wormhole, who seeks asylum on DS9. |

Another odd one this.
It forwards the Bajoran political situation somewhat, but is still a little underwhelming in itself. In fact, the episode is only really notable for the introduction of Garak, who even here, comes across as quite a complex character. He sparks off his friendship with Bashir, despite Bashir's reservations. Robinson and Siddig certainly w**k well together.
The episode emphasises once again, that I don't much like the Kira character
Steady, but again, nothing special.

Hurrah - Garak! The wonderfully ambiguous 'plain, simple Garak' is the one thing that saves this dull episode, which centres on Kira, and the first of many, many Bajoran terrorist groups :)
It seems that this episode is trying to keep on pulling in the TNG viewers, by bringing the oh-so loved Duras Sisters . The sooner DS9 is left to build up on its own, without resorting to TNG, the better :)

Again I have to say that Garak is the most interesting addition, a mysterious character.
I feel sorry for Kira though, she is in a quandry as to whether she should be helping the Bajoran terrorists or not, she is loyal to Bajor but doesn't know what to do for the best.

I'd forgotten how quickly Garak makes his appearence. I'd also frogotten just how tiring Kira is. Right bolshie madam :(
Nowt special this but it does establish a bit more about Bajoran politics.

An okay episode but nothing special :)
Re-watching it seems a bit predictable that the terrorist guy was playing Kira but I can't remember if I thought the same when I first watched it
Nice to see a bit of flesh added to Kiras character but still needs to stop overdoing the bolshy bit :)
P.S
- amphibian issues? :p ;)

A bit of a yawn really, this one. But I guess it's quite important as it does actually give us some insights into the Bajoran political situation, and of course, our first sight of the wonderful Garak.
And a glimpse of the Duras sisters is always welcome!

Well I quite enjoyed it this time through. It's so long since I've seen these episodes (must be the best part of a decade if not longer) that I can't remember a lot of the detail so they feel quite fresh to me
Again Kira didn't irritate me :o . In fact, I felt quite sorry for her predicament and her dilemma over where her loyalties should be directed.
Always good to see Lursa and Betor  Is it wrong to fancy one of them? :ph43r: :naughty:
And great to see Garak. I've always found Andrew Robinson a bit creepy in other things, but here he portrays a level of charm that's amusing and disarming (perfect for the character, no doubt  ) I remember liking his friendship with Bashir. Julian's reaction here is so childlike he needs a slap, though. Obviously a sugar rush
It's odd. You all know the series a lot better than I, so it's interesting to read your comments. But it seems, to me at least, that even though the stories are fairly simple at this stage they're quite decent, certainly comparing to the TNG rewatch at least, and maybe to early B5, Farscape etc :)

Lursa and Betor? You're one sick puppy Steve :x
Season 1 B5 aired against Season 2 DS9. You can imagine my opinion of the relative merits mid season 1 of B5. That's why I stopped watching it for a while. B5 season 1 ended well with Chrysalis, but DS9 just about matched it with The Jem'Hadar. For me it was until well into season 2 B5 that the show started superceding DS9, and only then in the serial stakes. DS9's always been better at the self-contained stories, with the odd exception.

I'm sure there's somekind of 'both at once' joke to be made here, but I haven't the stomach to ponder on it for too long.....
