If you have a multi-region DVD player I've found the complete farscape season box-sets available for pre-order (release date May 2005) for the ridiculously low price of around £25 or less each including shipping!
All seasons 1 through 4 are available, I don't know how they compare to UK box sets but they appear to have extras and commentaries. :D

Don't forget that Australia is region 4, so you'll need multi-region players to play the DVDs.
It might also be worth waiting for a list of extras - a lot of cheap DVD sets turn out to be episodes only, and Farscape does have a hell of a lot of extras on the R1 and R2 DVDs that are worth watching.
willowroolz - March 4, 2005 05:49 PM (GMT)
Yes, and they're increasing the extras still further with the Starburst editions.
Good point about the Region 4 encoding :)

Ok so I bought them separately at around £20 each so thats times 5 which makes £100 per season :tear: :tear: :tear:
They look pretty :ermm:

I did actually start my original post by saying you need a multi-region DVD player , however, a lot of Australian region 4 DVDs are dual encoded with region 2. I can't actually find any information about these farscape DVDs to confirm this and would assume them to be just region 4 but if you have a multi-region player you can't grumble at £25 (under £22.50 with todays exchange rate!) for the complete season box-set.
The information on the season 3 box-set includes commentaries and featurettes, I have no idea if it's the same as the UK season three complete box-set, still for the price I don't think you could do any better.
I don't expect season 4 to be any different with regards to extras I just expect that the packaging will be bog-standard keep cases with a cardboard outer slip box.
I'm not sure which DVDs you're talking about Cardelia because when there was talk of the Buffy box-set's being released extremely cheap & everyone expected them to be without extras. As it turned out they were exactly the same including the book packaging!

Well, the cheap season 1 DVDs contain no commentaries, whereas there's 8 on the R2 whole season boxset (and still more on the US Starburst editions).
For season 2, there's a The Way We Weren't commentary which the R2 release doesn't have, but it's missing the Crackers Don't Matter and Die Me Dichotomy commentaries on the R2. Again, there's probably more on the R1 editions.
Season 3 is missing the Self Inflicted Wounds II commentary, as well as Green Eyed Monster, Relativity and possibly one of the The Choice commentaries, though it does have a Revenging Angel commentary which the R2 doesn't. It also doesn't have the Farscape Undressed featurette, and I'd imagine it's missing more stuff which is on the R1. There's no specification for S4 yet.
So in short, although the R4 has got a couple of things not on the R2, it is rather lacking in commentaries (especially season 1). The US Starburst editions look like the ultimate things to get, but they're not even up to the end of season 1. Still, at US$60 (about £30) per season, that's the bargain to go for imo. And even the Starburst editions are missing a couple of things which are on the R2, so there's no one release with every extra out there.

I wasn't aware the new Buffy releases were available to buy. Last I heard, they'd been postponed again and were due to be released sometime in April. The X-Files were definitely rereleased as a cheap alternative and they're missing some (though not all) extras. Also, shows like Smallville and The West Wing are cheaper than Buffy, but are lacking in extras.

They're out. I got three of them (and three Angel ones as well ) last weekend.
They're not book-packaged though. Most places don't have them, HMV and WHS for example are still selling the original copies. The only place I've found them so far is Music Zone. The larger chains are possibly trying to clear their stock of the original copies before openly stocking the newer 'cheaper' sets. The newer sets being about £25. WHS have their Buffy range priced at around £30ish per set for the original versions.
I think they've re-released the first five seasons of Buffy, and the first three of Angel so far.
As far as the extras go on the newer sets, they're identical to the original releases, I've just checked ;)

you're probably right that the ultimate versions will probably turn out to be the starburst editions assuming you can wait that long. Personally I'm trying to find season 3 and 4 cheaply. While I would prefer to have the complete season 3 box-set on region 2 (to go with my region 2 season 1 and season 2 box sets) I can't see them selling cheaply any time soon, especially with no release date for the complete season 4 box-set .
From what I can gather season 3 has three audio commentaries on region 4 while six audio commentaries on the region 2 box-set. The featurette "Farscape undressed" is not included there are four different featurettes including the Farscape cartoon from revenging angel in one extended cut, Farscape animation in the making, farscape animation Art Gallery, and puppeteer interview. I would definitely prefer to have six audio commentaries but given the choice of a cheaper alternative sooner I'm going to take the cheaper and sooner option.
Season 4 seems to have five audio commentaries+the story so Farscape; make-up tests; farwell featurettes+ Concept Art Gallery ( a slide show presentation); Farscape lingo; Farscape game - screw the Pooch. Like you said comparisons are impossible since the complete season 4 box-set is not available in UK, with no date set either.
When I was talking about cheap Buffy box sets I was referring to the releases that have been available since late May 2004. Most people assumed they would be without extras as well.

Yep it's a real bargain for a whole season of Farscape for just under £18 at today's exchange rate plus postage and packing! :)
With season 3 and 4 in the post I only need Peacekeeper wars to complete my collection.

same here :(
...I Got my Farscape season 3 and 4 box-sets yesterday!
Sent on the 20th and received on the 26th not bad for a parcel from Australia. :D They don't look as nice as my season 1 and 2 UK complete season box sets but they are nice enough. Basically they are three double amaray cases in a cardboard outer box and you can't complain at the price.
I quickly put one of my season 4 discs in and they are region 4 encoded, I didn't think to try season 3 but I suspect they will be the same.
Only Peacekeeper Wars to go now :)

Not exactly as cheap as before but there's no customs worries as axel music.com are based in Europe. They are selling Farscape seasons 1, 2, 3 and 4 on Australian region 4 for £27.99 each.

Delivery is usually quite quick arriving about five to seven days later.
Although following the link from my original post and they still appear to be on offer there too w**king out at $53 Australian (including delivery) which roughly works out at just under £23... So you might want to ask them to send them as a gift!
