Title: Book Club Guidelines.
jamiearmour - March 4, 2005 12:52 AM (GMT)
OK I think it's best to set down some ground rules before embarking on this grand book club endeavour, feel free to add any that you think suitable.
1. Wherever possible, try to give a book a rating, i.e. 12, 15 or 18. Not all books are suitable for our younger members.
2. Book selection will be on a rotational system, each member will get the chance to nominate a book to be read by the group.
3. You can choose any book you wish, it can be a book you love, or a book you've never read but have been waiting for an excuse to read.
4. The member choosing the book will, on their judgment, determine how much time will be given to complete the book, i.e. 2, 3 or 4 weeks.
5. Each new book will be given a new topic in the books forum that can be replied to or added to at any point, just try not to post spoilers in case some people don't read as fast as you do.
6. What happens in book club stays in book club.
7. Do not talk about book club.
OK the last two were just silly but hey, it's my first time organising a book club  Now, a two bedroom flat in Dennistoun, that I could organise (you probably wouldn't thank me for it though ;) )

:lmao:
Sounds good to me, although I think the most difficult thing will actually be choosing which book to read.

Yeah, I agree Michelle... right now it looks impossible...oh well, I'm sure I'll think of something by the time my turn comes around :)

The only thing it will be hard not to put spoilers up won't it, should we just put big warnings up if people are behind :)

Spoilers carrying page numbers? a'la
Spoiler page 150
or whatever, sounds as though it should be fair enough. limit the damage to any members that have fallen behind/gotten too drunk to read/suffered amnesia from a head blow.

You could do the same thing but with chapter number, such as head your post with Spoilers up to chapter 5 etc?
Margot C - March 4, 2005 07:18 PM (GMT)
That's what I was thinking. Unless the book doesn't have chapters then we could go with page numbers.

Chapters is better (unless you're reading Terry Pratchett) ;)

Sounds interesting....but books are very hard to rate...I mean look at Stephen King's Green Mile books they are suitable for ten year olds, yet when they adapted it into a film it was an eighteen!

I think it's just a case of using your common sense ;)
