Title: O'Neill's Future in the SGC
TV Crazy - March 2, 2005 07:28 PM (GMT)
Everyone keeps talking about new cast members to SG-1, but is no one else upset by RDA leaving the cast :tear: . Jack is a great character and i doubt the show will be as good without him. He's my favourite character and always adds humour to the show. I don't think that all the new character's can replace the loss of the lead actor of the series.
Does anyone else care that he won't be in it anymore as a regular? Will anyone stop watching because he's not in it as much? Will Ben Browder and all the other new cast members be able to replace him in your opinion?
imo it won't be the same, but the other characters will still be in it for most of the season as well, so i'll still be watching.

Sorry I am going to upset a few people but I don't rate RDA at all, sorry. I got very bored of SG-1 (more boos) but I think Ben and Claudia are just what the show needs to give it some life.
If you have never seen Ben or Claudia acting before you are in for a treat they are superb and will be a huge asset to the show, as well as getting people like me to watch it again :)

I'm a big fan of RDA. No-one can do sarcasm like him. I suppose we've all got used to the idea of him leaving. It has been on the cards for quite a while now.
I also think Ben Browder is a fantastic actor, and if anyone can help keep the show going without RDA, its him. :)
Crichton Kicks - March 2, 2005 08:07 PM (GMT)
I rate RDA, and will be disappointed should he not be there for season 9, but that disappointment's lessened somewhat by Browder's acquisition.

to be quite honest, i dont think that i would miss any of the original cast leaving the show, as compared to the other shows i watch their characters seem a bit beige, but when it comes to T'ealc (typo?) it suddenly becomes very beige. But saying that the character of o'neil i liked the best from the 4, so maybe it will seem a little different on watching it next year, as i am going to watch it this year, for absolutely no reason of course... cough cough.... ben browder... cough cough...
but i think that he will totally rule in this show as i think that he can bring comedy and real drama to the show (see farscape, but ignore the muppets :) ). Unless of course his character is nuetered for the stargate world

I'm gutted :( Just when he and Sam look to make a go of it. But then I don't really know the new actors coming in to the show so I guess we'll just have to wait and see, I'm going in to season nine with an open mind.

Being a Jack and Sam shipper, it disappoints me that as soon as they have the chance to get together, Jack leaves the show. Hopefully we'll find out at some point what does happen even if we don't see it. As for waiting and seeing, i'll be doing that, there seem to be a lot of new characters which should make a difference to the gap left by RDA.

Everyone likes tv shows for their own reasons, if you didn't like RDA then i guess his leaving won't bother you. I hope you like S9 with all it's new characters. I haven't seen them in anything before, but by looking at some pics of Ben Browder, i don't think i'll have to.
Thanks for replying and i'm happy that i'm not the only one who will miss Jack.

And apparently he will appear in some episodes next season and we were lucky he was in S8 so much as in the preview Atlantis/ Stargate programme he said he was trying not to be in it so much.
I'm so pleased to find other Stargate & Atlantis fans. My ringtone is Stargate and no-one except my OH shows any kind of recognitin when my phone rings!

Where did you find the Stargate ringtone, because i'd quite like to have the Atlantis one.
I know RDA has been cutting down his role for a while, i thought season 8 was going a bit downhill in the middle, but when Jack went offworld in "It's Good to be King" (the one with Maybourne and the first appearance of the time travel puddle-jumper), the show got back on track. I'll miss his character and hope he appears in many eps in S9.
And i know what you mean, none of my close friends want to discuss my fave tv shows all the time and the ones that do, are a season behind me because they can't get Sky One. That's why i'm so glad i've found these message boards.

I downloaded it from Orangeworld, which was quite a surprise as it was Orangeworld France. If I find an Atlantis one I'll let you know. I also have a CTU phone beep for my messages but that just doesn't seem to w**k, and as 24 seems quite popular at w**k someone might actually recognise it! (However they all get 24 on video so I'm usually at least three hours ahead of everyone so can't even talk about that one at w**k <_< )

I think Richard Dean Anderson's departure is very sad for stargate and the show has steadily gone downhill since he has taken a reduced role in the series. I think Colonel O'Neill's sarcasm, one-liners and general attitude were what made stargate what it was. I think I kind of agree with Craig G as most of the stargate characters are kind of "beige" and pretty unremarkable, none of the other central characters have that special something that Richard Dean Anderson has.
I do however look forward to seeing Ben Browder in stargate maybe that will turn the tide?

I know exactly what you mean, Jack had that special something none of the other characters had.

Just curious, does no-one else rate Michael Shanks? I think he is another excellent actor. Definitely in the same league as RDA.
He probably can't carry the show by himself, but I can see him and browder w**king very well together.

Michael Shanks is a brilliant actor as well, the whole cast are great, it just happens that Jack is my favourite character with his humourous lines and comments.
My point was that RDA is supposedly the main character because in the credits his name appears before the name of the show and usually the name of the main character goes first. I'm not suggesting the show will be terrible without him, just as my fave character i'm sad he's leaving, i don't want to discredit the other members of the cast, that's just my opinion on the matter.

I'm biased where Shanks is concerned. His whole departure/return just labelled him a money-grabber. There were 'creative differences' until they threw more cash at him to return, then they suddenly disappeared.
They should have kept Corin Nemec/Jonas Quinn.
And he's married to Lexa Doig (), the b*stard

Isn't this more to do with the fact he is an executive producer on the show? I always thought it was an ego-pandering thing to get him on the show in the first place. Also, his name was known because of his time as MacGyver, so it was likely to draw in more viewers. I've always felt all the main characters get fairly equal screen time, and that jack was never intended to be a 'main' character.

They should get Jonas in for some more eps. He was a good character, and I did feel sorry for the way Nemec was dumped. He seems ideal to be a semi regular character. Still, I think you're being a bit hard on Shanks. I've never had a job in my life that I didn't do for the money. Are you really telling me you wouldn't put up with a little 'creative difference' at w**k in exchange for a decent pay rise?
