If you haven't seen season 3, look away
Spoilers up to A missing link (episode 4)..
leave!
Spoiley...
Is that enough of a warning? ;)
Ok, I've watched up to episode 4 of season 3 so far, and what is going on? What's happened? :o I'm not loving this season. It's a bit of a let down after the truly amazing season 2. No Will, no Irina, Dixon's lost all his appealing characteristics (what happened to humour?!), Sloane's good (wtf?), Jack has had barely any screentime, and Vaughn is married to an evil blonde that doesn't seem to know where she's from (what's with the accent?! aussie, english... what is it?!) Right, after that rant, I shall try to make my points more structured. A few problems I have:
- If Sydney was only gone for two years, and Vaughn was grieving for the first (iirc), didn't he meet and get married to Lauren pretty quickly?
- How did Dixon advance to director so fast? Especially considering he was in SD-6 not so long ago.
- How can they be so stupid to believe that Sloane is anything but evil? It seems a bit ridiculous that they would let a criminal like Sloane off just cause he provided some helpful intel.
- Vaugn's wife
- Where's Will? I miss him so much :tear: Can someone tell me if he comes back ever, please. (I really hope so)
On the plus side, I love Sark's new haircut   and Weiss is really cool.
I know I'm being a bit overly critical, and I am enjoying it more than this makes out, it's just not as good as the previous two seasons. Does it get better as the season goes on?

SPOILERY STUFF FOR ALIAS S3!
If you haven't seen S3, look away now........
1. Yes
2. I love Dixon! Is it weird that I was really proud of him when they told Syd he'd been promoted to Director. Yes, it was rather fast, but who else could they have promoted - Jack was in prison, Sydney was gone, Vaughn was off the rails "out of the country", you know "our" agents are the only ones there who can actually do anything ;)
3. I agree.
4. I agree to the power of a million
5. Aw...Will :tear: Yes, he does come back for one episode. Now stop ruining it for yourself by asking for spoilers :p
And a question of my own........if Kendall is no longer the director, how come he answered the phone to Sydney at the end of The Telling?

That's a good point about Dixon, I guess there wasn't anyone else! And I was also kind of proud of him, I just thought it seemed a bit unlikely.
Thanks for telling me about Will, I'm not trying to look for spoilers (much ;)), I just had to know if he comes back. I think I'll be able to enjoy it more now, knowing that he doesn't come back full time (although, I'm very disappointed), because up 'til now every time there's some dramatic music or a scene change, I'm expecting Will to pop up!

I hadn't even noticed that. Big goof on the writer's part?

I think she asked to be put through to Kendall didnt she? I cant find an avaliable transcript anywhere.. ;)
Margot C - March 3, 2005 10:21 PM (GMT)
Maybe. I can't remember, really. I thought she phoned the CIA, gave her whatever number and was put through to Kendall. Surely she should have been put through to Dixon?

I just found a transcript:
WOMAN'S VOICE: Dispatch.
SYDNEY: This is officer 2300844, calling for connection. Confirmation: looking glass.
WOMAN'S VOICE: Stand by.
KENDALL: This is Kendall.
SYDNEY: I just woke up in Hong Kong. I don't know how long I've been here or how I got here.
She was just put straight through to Kendall, without asking.

SPOILERS NOW UP TO EPISODE 11 - "FULL DISCLOSURE"
Yay, it got better! I'm enjoying it a lot now. It's great to finally know what went on all that time, but I'm a bit :o that Dixon knew all along. Makes me wonder who else knew and wasn't allowed to say anything? I was so happy to see Will, he's such a great guy, after everything he's been through, he still came through for the CIA & Sydney like that. I miss him :tear:. And the British accent was hilarious!
And Lauren's evil/w**king for Sark & the covenant? Well, if that is the case, I'm quite happy, I was hoping she'd turn out evil, makes it easier to hate her! But I was beginning to warm to her. Well warm to her in the sense that my desire to brutally rip her to shreds was decreasing a little.
Oh and I loved the Sydney rescue mission. The three men who love her most going to save her, it was so sweet.
Margot C - March 4, 2005 04:51 PM (GMT)
Stupid Lauren. Sorry, that was in reference to nothing in particular, just felt like saying it
Ah yes, I remember that bit in The Telling now. I remember when the S2 finale was first aired, loads of people thought that the "looking glass" line was an indication it would all turn out to be a dream.....
Which Sydney rescue mission is that? I think I know which one you mean but don't want to say anything in case it comes later....
Margot

The mission where the NSC had taken Sydney to Camp Williams to get her to decipher the coordinates and Lauren () had to write a false report to say that she was being treated well.

SPOILERS UP TO THE END OF SEASON 3
Well, I finished the 3rd season in 4 days after vowing to watch it more slowly than S2 ! It actually turned out to be quite good, after a poor start. I was very pleased with the way things went with Lauren (in that she died ) but I was also glad that they made her evil & w**king for the covenant, because it made her way less annoying than when she was just Vaugn's wife. I liked that Weiss had a bigger role, he's very funny, but the season could have done with having Irina in it. Was the actress unavailable or did they just choose not to write her in? I loved the increased amount of Sark, he was in virtually every ep  :D.
And oh my god.. Ricky Gervais?! That was so cool. As soon as I saw him I was just like, wow what the hell's he doing on Alias, how awesome. Then about 10minutes later I remebered that I knew he was guest starring on it at some point.
Did anyone else cry when Sloane was executed? :tear: I was so upset and my love for Jack swiftly turned to hate at what he'd done. But then he saved Sloane, so everything was fine again! Am very much looking foward to season 4. I've downloaded the first few episodes now and will watch them soon. I will of course talk about them on the season 4 board!
Edit: I almost forgot... what was with Sydney's haircut towards the end of the season? terrible, terrible fringe :x ;)
Michelle - March 6, 2005 11:57 AM (GMT)
Hehe, I can't believe you finished it so soon. Actually I can, that's Alias for you. ;)
I was just as swift. The only reason I didn't get through the whole series quite so fast is that when I started, only S1 was out on dvd. But when I finished S2 I lasted a few months when I was gonna wait for it to come out on dvd, then thought sod it, downloaded it all, and watched in about 4/5 days.
You'll soon have to come to a screeching halt when you catch up to US pace though. ;) Ep 9 we're up to at the mo. :)
Margot C - March 6, 2005 05:08 PM (GMT)
Wow, you got through that quickly!
Wooo, yay to Lauren's death - I imagine cheers went up in every Alias watching household when that happened.
Irina wasn't in it because Lena Olin wanted to spend more time with her family. I wish she had been too, Irina was such a fantastic character and we had only chipped the surface of that whole story. They could have done so much with all the twisted relationships etc.
I cried when they executed Sloane too. I think that scene is testament to the brilliant writing of Alias - the fact that they can make you feel so sorry for such an evil character is just great.
I'm so jealous of you! I wanna see S4! Oh, and I liked the fringe :p

Now that my Alias viewing has seriously slowed down (I think I was averaging about 10eps a day :whistling:, did have an excuse though, I was ill in bed & had nothing better to do) I've had time to ponder & reflect on the first 3 seasons. I can't talk in terms of episodes, as they all kind of blur together, but here are some general thoughts that have recently entered my mind after having a little time to actually stop & think about it.
Season 2 was by far the best. Even though season 3 did improve as it went along, further inspection of it has showed up *loads* of loose ends and completely ridiculous stuff. It also kind of petered out towards the end of the season and didn't really end on anything outstanding.
A few problems that I had with season 3:
- in the last episode - what the bloody hell was with those masks that Sydney and Lauren both wore of eachother? Totally ridiculous. I burst out laughing when I saw them. I can buy the various disguises, outfits and silly accents, but those rubber faces were just too much!
- Did Allison Doren live or die after Will stabbed her? And how did she survive those multiple shot wounds? They hinted at something to do with Rambaldi, but then never actually explained it to us.
- After Lauren was revealed as a baddie, it dragged on for too long, imo. They should have sorted it out earlier. The first few episodes of her sneaking around being evil were interesting, but then it got a bit repetitive.
- How did Jack go from being in prison, to w**king for the CIA again straight away?
- I'm a bit skeptical of the whole Sydney having a sister idea. I'm not sure if it's a good thing for the show. We all know what happened when they introduced a sister into Buffy!
Hmm, I had a few more points, but I can't really remember them right now! What did others think of season 3 as a whole?
