Title: Book Club

Would it be too ridiculous for us to have one? It could be interesting and open up our board members to new books/authors and genres they might normally not have tried.

Anyone up for it?

While it sounds a great idea...

I guard all my books with my life :fear:

Well, we wouldn't expect to be reading your dogeared copies of hustler :lmao: :lmao: . We'd each get a copy of the book du jour, read it then get together after a set period say a fortnight or a month if someone were to suggest an Asimov book :whistling: and talk about it. If nothing else it would be an excuse to go to Ikea and buy a new bookshelf. :innocent:

Ah I see, so you weren't suggesting swapping books <breaks out into cold sweat>

jamiearmour - February 27, 2005 11:45 PM (GMT)
No, i was suggesting like an actual book club. You know, like you see on tv? We all get a copy of a book, read it, then after a while we talk about the book, whether we liked it/hated it/used it's pages to wipe our..... You know.

Don't you watch Oprah?

:lmao:

If enough people are up for it then count me in.

Olicana - February 28, 2005 11:29 AM (GMT)
I'm in as long as we get enough notice for me to get the book (I live in France!)

Michelle - February 28, 2005 11:32 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I wouldn't mind. Preferably if it's books I can get from the library though. My book budget is already sky-high.

"I am my thoughts" - February 28, 2005 12:13 PM (GMT)
:whistling: May I suggest James Joyce's Ulysses? ;)

I'd be up for a book club. Really ought to read more than I do and it sounds like a cool idea.

I tried to get a book club up and running on another site I mod on but it wasn't very successful :tear:

Maybe we would have more luck here. Count me in Jamie

This sounds like a great idea, but I really, really don't need to take any more on at the moment. I'm already supposed to be madly reading as much WW1 literature as I can find for my Eng Lit synoptic exam. I'm still in though ;) :)

With a small budget, it's always worth looking on ebay for cheap second hand books. I don't mind a bit of tattiness (after all, I buy books to read them, not to look pretty) and you can pick up some real bargains if you look hard enough.

Count me in for a book club too :)

Ooh, my books have to be in perfect condition, but I suppose I don't mind too much if it's a book I'm not really all that bothered about keeping or reading again. I have got a few second hand ones. :)

LOL, just thought what would happen if we were all after the same book on ebay

would we start a mini bidding war? <_<

I know what you mean!

I hate the thought of somebody else having read a book before me <shudder>

Sounds like a really great idea, count me in!

I'd be up for a book club, sounds like a great idea :D I don't mind borrowing books from friends but I have an extreme aversion to second hand books! Something about not knowing who's handled them before me
