Title: Deadwood Season 2
Description: Any thoughts?
smellyphagor - February 26, 2005 09:02 PM (GMT)
Anyone here got anything to say about Deadwood? (I looked for a thread, couldn't find one, sorry if I'm just being short sighted)
I notice the R1 DVD is out so I hope the r2 won't be far behind. I was thinking of buying it- I was very interested in the description but I havn't got Sky or broadband.
So- anyone here got any opinions before I spend quite alot of money on it? I imagined/hoped that it would be a bit like an olden days Sopranos. With extra swearing. Would I be right.
Crichton Kicks - February 26, 2005 09:39 PM (GMT)
This is another one that I d/l but haven't yet watched. I've heard good things about it, and at the end of the day, it's HBO. I find their output to be the most consistent out there at the moment.
Eddie - February 26, 2005 09:50 PM (GMT)
I watched the first episode and didn't go any further. I was looking forward to it a lot given the HBO factor above, but I just found this too dull. I have no problems with a slow pace, but I think Carnivale is about as slow as you can get and still have the show be enjoyable.
smellyphagor - February 26, 2005 10:15 PM (GMT)
Do you think it would be slower than, say, a slow episode of the Sopranos? I think I'm ok with slow.
Fangy and grrr - February 27, 2005 06:23 PM (GMT)
I watched the whole of Deadwood and would highly recommend it.

I can understand your feeling's Eddie as myself and a friend of mine who also watched the first episode weren't sure whether or not to continue with it but we did and we both ended up loving it.

Thats not a bad description ( particulary the swearing as its virtually non-stop f-word and c-words :p ). Ian Mc Shane is fantastic ( no really ;) ) as the Tony Soprano-esque Al Swearington but its chock full of great characters and a great cast ( Brad Dourif is particulary good as the town doctor ). Reguards the pace I didn't find it any slower than any other series of a similar length - The Sopranos, The Shield - and it was no way as slow as Carnivale. Its a great show and one that I hope gets shown on terrestial tv as I know alot of people who would really enjoy it. :)
melian - February 28, 2005 05:43 PM (GMT)
I watched the whole series too. It just got better and better
But you really do have to just learn to ignore the swearing
Outta Sight - February 28, 2005 09:20 PM (GMT)
I'd heard very good things about this show so tuned in when it started over here and I did enjoy it to start with but I found my interest waning around about episode 5 or 6 I think. It was partly the swearing (and god knows I'm not a prude, I can swear with the best of 'em but I just found it to be overly excessive) and also the time slot (any show in a 10pm timeslot has to be addictive/entertaining/stimulating to keep me awake/sober ;) ) and I just found I couldn't sustain the interest. My brother, however, stuck with it and loved it and I wonder if maybe it isn't a more male orientated show in general.

Erm, I didn't find it so. I really enjoyed it, and I don't even usually like cowboy stuff :D
Fangy and grrr - April 15, 2005 11:48 AM (GMT)
Just noticed that Sky are repeating Deadwood. The first episode was one Sky One last night ( thursday ) at 11:00pm and its being repeated on Sky Mix on sunday @ 11:00.
So if you missed it first time around now's your chance to catch another impressive HBO show. :)
star_fury - April 15, 2005 01:50 PM (GMT)
I taped it last night since I missed it first time round. I have heard good things about it but I'm unsure if I'm going to like it. I'm not too keen on period dramas I much prefer contemporary settings or futuristic ones. How many episodes were in the first season? 12/13?
Fangy and grrr - April 15, 2005 03:12 PM (GMT)
Yeah I think it was a 12 or 13 episode run.
melian - April 18, 2005 01:37 PM (GMT)
I would really recommend it to anyone, if you can just get past the swearing
Anyone know when/if Sky One are planning to show the second series?
melian - June 23, 2005 03:55 PM (GMT)
For anyone who enjoyed this little gem of a show, Sky One are starting the second season on Sunday 10th July (not sure about the time yet  )
Hopefully it will be shown at 10pm so I can watch Alias first
Fangy and grrr - June 24, 2005 05:37 PM (GMT)
Caught a tralier the other day, can't wait.
I think they will show it @ 10:00pm as considering the swearing etc in the show it would be a brave to start it @ 9:00pm right on the edge of the watershed.
smellyphagor - June 25, 2005 12:16 AM (GMT)
I am trying to decide between the Deadwood S1 DVD and Angel S5 (not having seen either of them).
melian - July 8, 2005 08:04 AM (GMT)
Don't forget Deadwood Season 2 starts on sunday
willowroolz - July 8, 2005 11:28 AM (GMT)
I think I might give the first ep of season 2 a go. If I like it I'll record them all and go out and get the season 1 box set :)
I just hope watching 2x01 won't spoil the entire first season for me

I don't think it should spoil things too badly
There were so many things that happened last season that really don't impact much on the second season so you should still have plenty of things to enjoy when you go out and get the first season :D

Could you let me know if it's particularly spoilery on Monday please, Karen? That way I can record it and then see what you say before watching it :D

Anybody watch this last night?
Great first episode
I was pretty worried there for a while about Seth and Sol :(
It was good to know I still had the ability to discern what was being said by filtering out the swearing
Fangy and grrr - July 11, 2005 02:23 PM (GMT)
Cracking first episode.
LOL @ Seth ' seeing after Mrs Garrett's interests ' ;)
Loved Seth and Al going over the side while everyone else is waiting for them in the bar. Nice to see the language - in particular from Al and Cy - is as flithy as ever and on the subject of language :yahoo: @ the brief sight of Jane who I hope is coimg back properly.
I was worried about Sol ( I think thats how you spell his first name  ) as well and I felt very sorry for Seth's wife and son and how awkward was that scene with them and Mrs Garrett ?

I know, cringeworthy
I feel more sorry for Seth though, he tried to do the best thing by marrying his brothers widow and giving his son a father, but now he goes and falls in love (or maybe just lust). It's going to tear him up inside :tear:

Totally agree. :(
Thank god there's noone in the camp who might exploit his situation and that he's so calm and in control of his temper that he won't let anyone provoke him. :whistling:

I was really surprised that Cy let Joanie go, although I was a bit worried that he might just kill her for a while :fear: That man is scarier than Al
Oh, and I'm looking forward to the return of Calmity Jane too
What was her one line this week? 'F****** C***s*****'s!' or something like that :lmao: I can't believe she was asleep on her horse!

Cy is way more scary than Al imo. Thats one of the great things about this show, they set up Al as the bad guy and then Cy comes along and sets up a better class of joint and you think he's gonna be a more sophisticated rival to Al but then you find out that beneath it all he's even sicker and blackhearted than Al. I fear for Joanie I can't believe she's get away so easily. :fear: :(
 @ Jane's only line but I can totally believe she was asleep on her horse.

Have you seen the new advert on sky one? The one where you see a picture of each of the characters and hear them saying one line?
OMG @ Jane's!!!! It can't be true :tear:
Bill The Bloodless - July 14, 2005 04:43 PM (GMT)
I caught about the last 45 minutes so missed the start of the fight and I'm not too sure what it was about. I watched some of the first season but the continuous swearing is a bit too much at times. Might stick with it for a while (as there isn't much on atm) not that I hold out much hope for the swearing to be toned down.
Fangy and grrr - July 14, 2005 06:05 PM (GMT)
I would stick with it Bill but your right not to expect any letting up in the language. ;)

Another excellent episode.
I thought Sol was fantastic this week with the after effects of being shot and a few medicinal drinks seeing him finally let rip at Seth ( first time I can remember him using c***s***** ;) ) yet he still manged to be sweet to Trixie. And  @ Trixie's idea of small talk while waiting outside with Charlie being to offer him a b*** J**. :o
Great to see Jane again  LOL @ her with the Doc and Charlie. And  & :x at Al and his ... erm .. problems.

I know!!
I was really nervous that Al was going to start something again when Seth went to get his badge and gun back :o Though Seth really didn't help matters as he seemed to welcome the thought of finishing what they had started <_< LOL when he asked about if they had found his hat
Nice to have Jane back

I thought it was very good of Charlie to fake a dizzy spell to try and hold Seth back from confronting Al but your right Seth was spoiling to finish it so I had to laugh at the quizzical look on his face as Al came out all nice and apologetic. Bit convenient the bag man telling Al that Seth is highly thought of in Montana or wherever it was but I guess it means we're back to an uneasy truce between them. :)

 Everything is conspiring against me this week :tear:
First, I try to tape sundays episode and my video decides to lose the plot. THEN I try to watch the repeat last night but fall asleep and miss the last 10 mins or so <_< Why me?????
Also, looks like Deadwood is being shown on Mondays instead of Sundays from next week onwards  What is going on?
willowroolz - July 27, 2005 10:02 AM (GMT)
I recorded Sunday's only to find it had been moved to 10:50
Managed to record it last night, though :)

willowroolz - July 27, 2005 11:26 AM (GMT)
Wasn't too keen on the first ep, liked the second a lot more. I think I'm still trying to understand what they're saying most of the time. I don't mean the swearing, I mean it's got it's own brand of dialogue which is taking me a while to get my head around
melian - July 27, 2005 11:34 AM (GMT)
It does take a while to get used to the language  Sometimes I still have to rewind and try again :D
