Title: 4x17 Bound

QUOTE
As a gift for negotiating with the Orion Syndicate, Captain Archer receives three Orion Slave Girls.

QUOTE
Reportedly concerns a slaver named Harrad-Sar who has had dealings with the Klingons and the Gorn Hegemony brings three beautiful Orion slave girls in to dance for Archer and Reed. The sisters end up on Enterprise as freed slaves, though one of the women, Navaar, tells Archer that even if she is not his property, she still wants to please him, asking whether it would be inappropriate for her to kiss and touch him.

Oh look, Mudd's Women.

Why is it for every step they try to make to bring Enterprise out of the Trek 'rut', they fall back in deeper? Trek fans were pissed in 1987 when they remade 'The Naked Time' as the second TNG episode.

Unless this episode does something drastically different (and the notion of having slaves there to 'pleasure' Archer does nothing to swave this opinion) then I'm quite glad the attempts to get the fans to finance S5 are failing dismally....

Ken - are you aware this one was finally broadcast in the US last week?

Just realised we've not had your comments on it and I was wondering if you'd forgotten it was on cause of the 6 week hiatus :)

i did forget but downloaded this and episode 18 at the weekend - thanks Philip.

Watched this tonight and yes it is remaniscant of MUDDS WOMEN but it is still well acted and the end scenes between Trip and T'pol are a delight.

A good standalone episode.

There's fanwank, and this - Utter Wank.

When you sit with your children in the future and they ask you what happened to one of the greatest sci-fi franchises ever, you can show them this episode and weep.

Certainly one of the weakest thus far though it did have a couple of good points. Ooer missus.

If nothing else at least it gave some point to the otherwise pointless Trip/T'Pol story.

And I suppose that this gives Kirk the idea to seek out new life forms... and roger the womenfolk.

It seems that Number Six and I, together with Ken's old posts have been doing a valiant job of attempting to defend Enterprise season 4. Thank goodness the rest of the season wasn't as bad as this drivel, otherwise there'd have been no-one here to defend the show.

The only positive aspect I can think of is that it was just a stand alone episode, and not a 2 or 3 parter. Aside from that, the only other thing I really liked was the colour of the Orion girls' skin... it was a rather nice shade of green I thought.

I simply couldn't believe this episode was written by Manny Coto. I saw his name on the credits and thought we'd be in for a better than average episode. What a disappointment.

Sure, the girls were nice, but I feel Trek should be beyond this kind of titillation. I can tolerate it and enjoy it in other shows, but it just doesn't feel right for Star Trek. Yes, I know Jeri Ryan and Jolene Blalock were probably cast to increase the T & A look of their respective shows, but both have been good actresses and have portrayed their characters in a way that gives them a considerable amount of credibility, and shows they aren't purely there just for their looks.

I was very, very disappointed with 'Bound' and I can only hope the next two episodes show an improvement.

The only moment of interest in this episode IMO, was in the revelation that the Orion Slave Girls are not in fact, the slaves :o And are in fact the masters/mistresses.

Beyond that little twist, I have to agree with you Hovis, a total and complete waste of an episode

Did they know that they weren't coming back when they filmed this episode? It felt like they had given up and were just going through the motions.

I miss Ken and his determined and valiant defence of all things Trek.

Next week sees the start of a mirror universe two parter. While I enjoy Mirror Mirror and the DS9 mirror universe eps I can't help thinking that we're cramming every refernce to TOS in the final weeks. If only they had done this from the start things might have been different.

The next two episodes show such an improvement you wouldn't believe they and Bound were released one after the other.

And coming from me, that must be a compliment :)
